Book Synopsis Will War Ever End? by : Paul Chappell
Download or read book Will War Ever End? written by Paul Chappell and published by Easton Studio Press, LLC. This book was released on 2011-05-31 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once in a great while, a book is written that substantially changes the way people think about a particular subject. Will War Ever End? is such a book. Written as a “manifesto for waging peace” by an active duty captain in the US Army, Will War Ever End? challenges readers to think about peace, war and violence in radically new ways. “Are human beings naturally violent?” “What is hatred?” “How can love overcome the power of hatred?” “How does nonviolence overcome the power of violence?” “How can we prove that unconditional love makes us psychologically healthy and that hatred, just like an illness, occurs when something has gone wrong?” “How does violence against the natural world relate to violence between human beings?” These are all questions that Captain Paul K. Chappell leads us to consider in a strikingly new way. In Will War Ever End?, Chappell demonstrates that human beings are naturally peaceful and that world peace can become more than a cliché. He lays out a practical framework for transforming the way we think about war and violence, enabling us to begin the real work we must do in order to achieve true peace for mankind. Will War Ever End? is a deeply personal story of a soldier’s search for human understanding that will lead to universal transformation. Its message is one of hope, offering practical solutions to help us build a better world. We can all make change. Now is the time to begin.

This book was released on 2019-11-26 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just about 1625 years ago, during the Roman Emperor Flavius Theodosius Augustus, or Theodosius the Great, the Roman general Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus, around 394, wrote in Latin the book "Epitoma Rei Militaris" or "De re militari" (Concerning Military Matters), in which he mentions "Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum", later simplified as "Si vis pacem, para bellum", which means "If you want peace, prepare for war".Well, after over 1625 years of wars after wars after wars, the over 7.7 billions of people on Earth demand a change: Si vis pacem, para PACEM! No need to translate, but if you insist: If you want peace, prepare for PEACE!On 24 November 2019 Pope Francis called for a 'world without nuclear weapons' during his Nagasaki visit.Using a lovely imaginary dialog between Sun and Earth, this book is exactly what we need to really prepare for peace, with clear and practical ideas, which will help the over 7.7 B people to have a Harmonious World, with Sustainable Peace, Freedom, Health, Friendship and Prosperity.
Book Synopsis The Chemical Weapons Taboo by : Richard MacKay Price
Download or read book The Chemical Weapons Taboo written by Richard MacKay Price and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richard M. Price asks why, among all the ominous technologies of weaponry throughout the history of warfare, chemical weapons carry a special moral stigma. Something more seems to be at work than the predictable resistance people have expressed to any new weaponry, from the crossbow to nuclear bombs. Perceptions of chemical warfare as particularly abhorrent have been successfully institutionalized in international proscriptions and, Price suggests, understanding the sources of this success might shed light on other efforts at arms control. To explore the origins and meaning of the chemical weapons taboo, Price presents a series of case studies from World War I through the Gulf War of 1990-1991. He traces the moral arguments against gas warfare from the Hague Conferences at the turn of the century through negotiations for the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993. From the Italian invasion of Ethiopia to the war between Iran and Iraq, chemical weapons have been condemned as the "poor man's bomb." Drawing upon insights from Michel Foucault to explain the role of moral norms in an international arena rarely sensitive to such pressures, he focuses on the construction of and mutations in the refusal to condone chemical weapons.

Book Synopsis Transitional Justice in Troubled Societies by : Aleksandar Fatić
Download or read book Transitional Justice in Troubled Societies written by Aleksandar Fatić and published by Studies in Social and Global Justice. This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the crucial strategic topic for the practical implementation of transitional justice in post-conflict societies by arguing that the dilemma is defined by the extent to which the actual achievement of the political goals of transition is a necessary condition for the long-term observance and implementation of justice. While in many cases the 'blind' criminal justice does not enhance, and even militates against, the achievement of political transitions, an understanding of transitional justice as a fundamentally political process is novel, controversial and a concept which may shape the future of transitional justice. This collection contributes to developing this concept both theoretically and through concrete and current case studies from the worlds most pronounced crisis spots for transitional justice.
