This book was released on 1988 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase II archaeological test excavations were conducted at five prehistoric archaeological sites below Stockton Dam. The sites were tested to determine their eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. The sites are considered small extractive or limited activity camps of the Woodland period situated in different econiches in the floodplain. Sites 23CE324 (the J. Jones site) and 23CE235 (the B. Jones site) cannot be considered significant because their data-producing potential has been assessed as essentially exhausted during the Phase II program. Site 23CE252 (the Ronnie Pyle site) is considered significant for its potential to contribute further information concerning regional research problems in this part of the prairie-forest border. Shallow but intact cultural deposits are present at the site. Sites 23CE240 and 23CE241 were found to be extremely low-density, limited activity camps on alluvial surfaces probably dating from the Woodland period to the present and are assessed as ineligible for National Register listing. Keywords: Archeology; American Indians. (edc).

Book Synopsis Archaeological Test Excavation and Evaluation of Three Prehistoric Sites at Swift Bar, on the Lower Snake River, Southeastern Washington by : Robert Lee Sappington
Download or read book Archaeological Test Excavation and Evaluation of Three Prehistoric Sites at Swift Bar, on the Lower Snake River, Southeastern Washington written by Robert Lee Sappington and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Test excavations and controlled surface collections were conducted at three sites on Swift Bar, on the Lower Snake River in southeastern Washington. All three sites are subject to adverse effects through erosion and habitat restoration activities. Cascade phase artifacts dating 8000-4500 years BP were recovered from all three sites; comparable cobble tools and lithic material selection among the sites also suggest similarities in occupation. In addition, cultural material dating to the Harder phase, 2500 BP to the onset of the historic period was also recovered from one of the sites. This later occupation corresponds to the ethnographic Nez Perce village site known as mexmexspu, first reported by the Lewis and Clark expedition in October 1805. (Author).
Book Synopsis Archaeology of Louisiana by : Mark A. Rees
Download or read book Archaeology of Louisiana written by Mark A. Rees and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2010-11-30 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Archaeology of Louisiana provides a groundbreaking and up-to-date overview of archaeology in the Bayou State, including a thorough analysis of the cultures, communities, and people of Louisiana from the Native Americans of 13,000 years ago to the modern historical archaeology of New Orleans. With eighteen chapters and twenty-seven distinguished contributors, Archaeology of Louisiana brings together the studies of some of the most respected archaeologists currently working in the state, collecting in a single volume a range of methods and theories to offer a comprehensive understanding of the latest archaeological findings. In the past two decades alone, much new data has transformed our knowledge of Louisiana’s history. This collection, accordingly, presents fresh perspectives based on current information, such as the discovery that Native Americans in Louisiana constructed some of the earliest-known monumental architecture in the world—extensive earthen mounds—during the Middle Archaic period (6000–2000 B.C.) Other contributors consider a variety of subjects, such as the development of complex societies without agriculture, underwater archaeology, the partnering of archaeologists with the Caddo Nation and descendant communities, and recent research in historical archaeology and cultural resource management that promises to transform our current appreciation of colonial Spanish, French, Creole, and African American experiences in the Lower Mississippi Valley. Accessible and engaging, Archaeology of Louisiana provides a complete and current archaeological reference to the state’s unique heritage and history.

Field work at 31Ch8 and 31Ch29 included surface mapping, test pitting and complete excavation of two large-scale block units. (Author).
