Book Synopsis Developments in German Industrial Relations by : Gerd Grözinger
Download or read book Developments in German Industrial Relations written by Gerd Grözinger and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-05-11 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a review of the last twenty years of research in German industrial relations. Divided into three parts, it begins by exploring the major developments in this field of research. It then describes the academic field of industrial relations in Germany from different perspectives, looking back on twenty years of “Industrielle Beziehungen” – the German Journal of Industrial Relations. This is rounded off by an analysis of the changes in the real world of the German model and its major institutions, namely the DGB trade unions and co-determination on the establishment-level. In addition, the book discusses the contributions of neighbouring disciplines, particularly human resource management, economics, and labour law. As the German model and its developments are interesting not only for researchers in industrial relations, but also for practitioners in business and administration, this volume addresses both groups of readers.
Book Synopsis Migrant Citizenship from Below by : K. Shinozaki
Download or read book Migrant Citizenship from Below written by K. Shinozaki and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-06 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Migrant Citizenship from Below explores the dynamic local and transnational lives of Filipina and Filipino migrant domestic workers living in Schönberg, Germany. Shinozaki examines their irregular migrant citizenship status from 'above', which is produced by complex interactions between Germany's welfare, care, and migration regimes and the Philippines' gendered politics of overseas employment. Despite the predominant representation of these workers as invisible, these spatially immobile migrants maintain sustained transnational engagements through parenting and religious practices. Shinozaki studies the reverse-gendered process of international reproductive labor migration, in which women traveled first and were later joined by men. Despite their structural vulnerability, participant observations and biographical interviews with the migrants demonstrate that they enact and negotiate migrant citizenship in the workplace, transnational households, religious practices and through accessing health provisions.
Book Synopsis New Worlds of Work by : Ulrich Jürgens
Download or read book New Worlds of Work written by Ulrich Jürgens and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New industrial centres are emerging in the so-called BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, and China), where large numbers of plants have been constructed in recent years, creating many manufacturing jobs. But what does industrial work look like in these locations? Up until now, much of the interest in developing country industrialization has concentrated on the poor working conditions that characterize some export-oriented sectors in emerging economies, most notoriously in the garment industry. In contrast, the concern of this book is with the modern facilities of multinational or local manufacturers that reflect aspirations for a process of industrial upgrading that might foreshadow the future for these countries. The book provides an analysis of work, its context, and the situation of employees in plants in the BRICs focussing on three main questions: What differences and common features can be ascertained in a comparison both of countries and firms in terms of workplace HR management and production systems? What evidence is there for either a 'high road' or 'low road' developmental path in the BRICs? How are corporate standards implemented in these local contexts? The book addresses an academic audience as well as managers and trade unionists. For the former, it offers a systematic comparison of the four countries and the companies under study. For the latter, it offers a vivid account of challenges the companies face in the BRIC countries as well as the solutions adopted by the companies.
Book Synopsis New Mobilities Regimes in Art and Social Sciences by : Susanne Witzgall
Download or read book New Mobilities Regimes in Art and Social Sciences written by Susanne Witzgall and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Mobilities Regimes analyses how global mobilities are changing the world of today and the role of political and economic power. Bringing together essays by leading scholars and social scientists, including Mimi Sheller and Bülent Diken with the work of well-known artists and art theorists such as Jordan Crandall, Ursula Bieman, Gülsün Karamustafa and Dan Perjovschi this book is a unique document of the cross-disciplinary mobility and power discourse. The specific design, integrating the text and art elements to create a singular dialogue makes for an exciting intellectual and aesthetic experience. Illustrated by a range of studies which examine the regulation and structure of mobility, such as the daily routines of teleworkers, Ukrainian cleaners in Western Europe, the mobility policies of global corporations, and the impact of bicycle policies on public space, New Mobilities Regimes emphasizes the routes and crossroads of migration flows as well as at the interaction of mobility and new spatial concepts. The contributors are concerned with both the positive outcomes and the disappointments of the global mobilizations in modern lives. This book is ground-breaking in that it calls for the reassessment of the figurative arts in providing independent and insightful knowledge-generating research on the nature of mobility and highlights the new appreciation of visual representations in sociology, cultural geography and anthropology.

Book Synopsis The Crisis-Mobility Nexus by : Leandros Fischer
Download or read book The Crisis-Mobility Nexus written by Leandros Fischer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-02-09 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Situated at the intersections of anthropology, migration, citizenship, and social movement studies, this volume theorises a crisis-mobility nexus by focusing on empirical case studies. These concern migration struggles; the entanglements of crisis, social mobility, and citizenship; as well as the impact of COVID-19 (im)mobility on social movements. By highlighting examples from these streams, the book illuminates entanglements between them, while emphasising the role of solidarity as well as de-solidarisation in creating, shaping, or resisting various regimes of mobility.
Download or read book Family Diversity written by Olaf Kapella and published by Verlag Barbara Budrich. This book was released on 2010-03-17 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Family in all its aspects Familienbande International experts provide an overview of the current state-of-the-art of European family research and outline the multiple formations, structures and configurations of family in Europe. Four aspects are discussed in depth: family images, sex/gender roles, globalisation and family development processes. Influenced by globalisation, European countries experience processes which still have greatly varying consequences. Cultural differences, reflected in a range of family schemes and national family policies, are one reason for the continued existence of differences in the scope and speed of change processes. Quite generally, images and concepts of family have become more heterogeneous and flexible. The flip side of this coin is that family members are increasingly faced with the challenges of achieving a satisfactory work-life balance – a task aggravated by globalisation. We therefore need to ask how family policy can help families enjoy adequate freedom of action and latitude for their decision-making. To summarise: a read well worth the effort for all experts working in family research and family policy.

Book Synopsis Migration, Mobility and Modernization by : David J. Siddle
Download or read book Migration, Mobility and Modernization written by David J. Siddle and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For almost a hundred years the academic study of migration concentrated on evolving standardised models of migration behaviour based on data from censuses or the registration of births, marriages and deaths. More recently, it has been realised that such models fail to take into account the decision-making behind migration and that better understanding will come from study of the behaviour of individuals as well as aggregate numbers. In this book the imaginative use of alternative sources DS for example, apprentice books, guild and craft records, legal and court documents, diaries and biographies DS gives fresh insights into the processes of movement to reveal much more complex circulatory behaviour than the standard models derived from census and registration sources alone have suggested. The first chapter confronts the issue of rural mobility in post-famine Ireland and is followed by a study centred on Alpine rural families which built impressive networks across pre-industrial Western Europe. Two chapters focus on the particular characteristics of worker groups: mining families of south Lancashire during the period of rapid increase in coal production in the eighteenth century; and the organised mobility of skilled labour in nineteenth-century central Europe. Next, an imaginative and rigorous deployment of the techniques of family reconstruction and record linkage embracing a variety of sources (vital event registers, wills, port books, apprentice records) teases out the migration histories of those who settled in eighteenth-century Liverpool. There are two chapters on female migrant behaviour, drawing attention in the case of eighteenth-century Rheims to the opportunities and restrictions on the life of migrant women at different points in their lifecycles; and showing how poor women struggled to survive in nineteenth-century Dublin. The final chapter uses family histories assembled by numerous genealogists and family historians to challenge the orthodox view of direct stepwise migration from a smaller to a larger town in the urban hierarchy.
Book Synopsis Routledge German Dictionary of Business, Commerce and Finance Worterbuch Fur Wirtschaft, Handel und Finanzen by : Sinda Lopez
Download or read book Routledge German Dictionary of Business, Commerce and Finance Worterbuch Fur Wirtschaft, Handel und Finanzen written by Sinda Lopez and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 2115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2002. The German Dictionary of Business, Commerce and Finance is the second dictionary to be published in Routledge’s programme of bilingual business dictionaries. The series was launched in December 1995 with the French Dictionary of Business, Commerce and Finance. It would not have been possible to compile this dictionary within a relatively short timescale, and to the standard achieved, without the use of a highly sophisticated, custom-designed database. The database’s most significant feature is that it is designed as a relational database: term records for each language are held in separate files, with further files consisting only of link records. Links between terms in different language files represent translations, enabling us to handle various types of one-to-many and many-to-one equivalences. Links between terms within a single language file represent crossreferences between geographical variants and abbreviations. The content of the database for this dictionary was created in three principal phases. A considerable proportion of the English term list was already available following the publication of the French Dictionary of Business, Commerce and Finance. The term list was then sent out to specialist translators - with current practical experience of business translation - who supplied German equivalences and expanded the English and German term lists to include the main relevant terminology in their particular spheres of work.
