Al respecto, Charles Morris (1985) refiere, que la semiótica tiene un doble vínculo con las ciencias: a)Es una ciencia más, al aportar los fundamentos para cualquier ciencia especial de los signos, como la lingüística, la lógica y la matemática.b) Es un instrumento de la totalidad de las ciencias, ya que, cada una de ellas utiliza y expresa sus resultados por medio de signos. Saussure y Pierce han sido sus principales exponentes, constituyéndose sus ideas en punto de partida para los estudiosos de Semiótica y Arquitectura. Para Saussure, el proceso de comunicación supone un locutor (emisor), un oyente (destinatario), una cosa que el locutor quiere comunicar al oyente (ideas) y signos lingüísticos mediante los cuales se comunica; para Pierce, el objeto es un signo que va a transmitir algo a través de la utilización de códigos a un receptor, los cuales están cargados de significaciones con referencia al mismo código, donde no necesariamente existe un emisor. En el presente Ebook, se maneja lo relacionado con el "Proceso de Comunicación"; con la finalidad de plantear, a partir del análisis e identificación de los elementos o componentes del mismo, una aproximación gráfica al "Proceso de Comunicación en la Arquitectura", basada en las diferentes etapas del diseño arquitectónico; en búsqueda de facilitar, el estudio y la comprensión del acto comunicativo en este campo; lo cual, se hace posible a través del lenguaje, en sus distintas formas o maneras de expresión: la palabra hablada, la señal, el gesto y la imagen, permitiendo el intercambio de ideas, conocimientos, experiencias y sentimientos. En la Arquitectura, así como en otras disciplinas, la comunicación se presenta a diferentes niveles, por muy diversos motivos, con gran número de personas y de múltiples formas; es decir, intervienen actores que intercambian continuamente sus roles en relación a la forma como se maneja este acto comunicativo en los diferentes momentos; siendo posible, no solo la comunicación sino también la significación. Ahora bien, considerando las diferentes etapas en el diseño arquitectónico, que abarca, desde la conceptualización de la idea hasta la concreción de la obra arquitectónica puesta en marcha, se pueden reconocer dos situaciones:1.Donde se identifican los elementos o componentes básicos del proceso: emisor, receptor, y mensaje (manejado a través de palabras, grafismos, gestos, etc.); donde es posible la retroalimentación. 2.Donde la obra arquitectónica es vista como un objeto o signo cargado de significaciones, y no necesariamente se encuentra presente el emisor. Este Ebook, va dirigido a estudiantes de arquitectura o cualquier otra persona interesada en la temática; en el mismo, se presenta información básica y general acerca del proceso de comunicación y significación; incluyendo de forma sucinta, la visión que han tenido algunos estudiosos del área de la Semiótica con respecto al campo de la comunicación y la significación en la Arquitectura, entre ellos: Broadbent, Jencks, Morris, Gillo Dorfles, Umberto Eco; igualmente, la visión de algunos arquitectos, críticos e historiadores, que han utilizado estas bases teóricas: De Fusco, Marina Waissman, Joao Stroeter, Roberto Segre, Juan Pablo Bonta, entre otros. Información que ha servido como base, para el planteamiento de una serie de esquemas gráficos representativos del "Proceso de Comunicación en la Arquitectura", correspondientes a las diferentes etapas del Diseño Arquitectónico.

Book excerpt: Charles Sanders Peirce was born in September 1839 and died five months before the guns of August 1914. He is perhaps the most important mind the United States has ever produced. He made significant contributions throughout his life as a mathematician, astronomer, chemist, geodesist, surveyor, cartographer, metrologist, engineer, and inventor. He was a psychologist, a philologist, a lexicographer, a historian of science, a lifelong student of medicine, and, above all, a philosopher, whose special fields were logic and semiotics. He is widely credited with being the founder of pragmatism. In terms of his importance as a philosopher and a scientist, he has been compared to Plato and Aristotle. He himself intended "to make a philosophy like that of Aristotle." Peirce was also a tormented and in many ways tragic figure. He suffered throughout his life from various ailments, including a painful facial neuralgia, and had wide swings of mood which frequently left him depressed to the state of inertia, and other times found him explosively violent. Despite his consistent belief that ideas could find meaning only if they "worked" in the world, he himself found it almost impossible to make satisfactory economic and social arrangements for himself. This brilliant scientist, this great philosopher, this astounding polymath was never able, throughout his long life, to find an academic post that would allow him to pursue his major interest, the study of logic, and thus also fulfill his destiny as America's greatest philosopher. Much of his work remained unpublished in his own time, and is only now finding publication in a coherent, chronologically organized edition. Even more astounding is that, despite many monographic studies, there has been no biography until now, almost eighty years after his death. Brent has studied the Peirce papers in detail and enriches his account with numerous quotations from letters by Peirce and by his friends. This is a fascinating account of a prodigious talent who, though unable to find a suitable accommodation within his own society, nevertheless managed to produce an enormous body of brilliant work. Brent's analysis uncovers a double tragedy: that of a flawed genius, and of a society unwilling or unable to recognize and support its own best son.
