Book Synopsis The Economic History of Italy, 1860-1990 by : Vera Zamagni
Download or read book The Economic History of Italy, 1860-1990 written by Vera Zamagni and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Economic History of Italy 1860-1990 gives a scholarly and authoritative account of Italy's progress from a rural economy to an industrialized nation, covering in detail agriculture, trade, banking, public intervention, the standard of living, and education. It provides an interpretativeaccount of the economic history of Italy since unification and offers an extensive resource of quantitative data. Professor Zamagni argues that Italy only effectively became an industrialized nation after the Second World War, with the south still being clearly behind the rest of the country. Her argument makes use of both macroeconomic approaches, in looking at the growth of income, investment, consumption, trade, and the role of the state, and microeconomic approaches, drawing conclusions from the history of individual banks and corporations. Italy's movement from peripheral status in Europe to a central position as a prosperous country was achieved through a remarkable flexibility in adapting newtechnology and new institutions.

Very few attempts had been made, in the accounting literature, to assess the contribution of the theorists who have had such an important influence on the direction of research and practice. Written by experts the studies in this volume provide a unique guide to the development of accounting theory and practice in regions as diverse as the USA, Japan and Europe.
Book Synopsis Sustainability Accounting and Integrated Reporting by : Charl Villiers
Download or read book Sustainability Accounting and Integrated Reporting written by Charl Villiers and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-03 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainability Accounting and Integrated Reporting deals with organizations’ assessment, articulation and disclosure of their social and environmental impact on various groups in society. There is increasingly an understanding that financial information does not sufficiently discharge organizational accountability to members of society who are demanding an account of the social and environmental impacts of companies’ and other organizations’ activities. As a result, organizations report ever more social and environmental information, and there are simultaneous movements towards providing the information in an integrated fashion, showing how social and environmental activities influence each other, members of society and the financial aims of the organization. The book Sustainability Accounting and Integrated Reporting provides a broad and comprehensive review of the field, focusing on the interconnection between different elements of these topics, often dealt with in isolation. The book examines the accounting involved in the collection and analysis of data, control processes over the data, how information is reported to external parties, and the assurance of the information being reported. The book thereby provides an overview useful to practitioners (including sustainability managers, consultants, members of the accounting profession, and other assurance providers), academics, and students.
Book Synopsis The International Handbook of Social Impact Assessment by : H. A. Becker
Download or read book The International Handbook of Social Impact Assessment written by H. A. Becker and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This book provides a valuable addition to the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) literature. While the volume addresses several good examples of "how to" case studies it also firmly addresses the importance of the need for firm conceptual and theoretical guidelines for SIA practice. . . the volume is an excellent contribution to the SIA literature and I highly recommend it to both practitioner and researcher alike.' – Geoff Syme, Australasian Journal of Environmental Management 'An innovative collection which takes social impact assessment to the frontiers of environmental and social policy and citizen awareness. Unusually, this collection includes both sophisticated quantitative tools and equally important chapters on participation, stakeholder involvement and environmental mediation. A most valuable source book.' – Michael Redclift, King's College, London, UK Social Impact Assessment (SIA) is the process of analysing and managing the intended and unintended consequences on the human environment of planned interventions (policies, programmes, plans, projects) so as to bring about a more sustainable and equitable biophysical and human environment. This important Handbook presents an indispensable overview of the range of new methods and of the conceptual advances in SIA. Recent increased attention to social considerations has led to substantial development in the techniques useful to, and the thinking in, SIA. A distinguished group of contributors provides an up-to-date and comprehensive account of the cutting-edge in SIA development. This Handbook outlines a new understanding and definition of SIA and, as such, will be an invaluable reference tool for both practitioners and scholars at different levels working in the fields of SIA and environmental studies (including both impact assessment and management).

Book Synopsis Historical Dictionary of Albania by : Robert Elsie
Download or read book Historical Dictionary of Albania written by Robert Elsie and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2010-03-19 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Albania is not well known by outsiders; it was deliberately closed to the outside world during the communist era. Now it has thankfully become free again, its borders are open and it can be visited, and it is increasingly integrating with the rest of Europe and beyond. Unfortunately, Albania has had its share of problems in the post-communist era; it's a land of destitution and despair, thanks in part to the Albanian mafia, which has turned the country into one of blood-feuds, kalashnikovs, and eternal crises. Yet, Albania is, in essence, a European nation like any other and will soon, it is to be hoped, advance and take its proper place in Europe and the world. The second edition of the Historical Dictionary of Albania relates the history of this little-known country through a detailed chronology, an introduction, a bibliography, appendixes, and over 700 cross-referenced dictionary entries on significant persons, places, and events; institutions and organizations; and political, economic, social, cultural, and religious facets.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Paterno was seven when he left Castelmezzano, a small mountain town in Basilicata to set sail on one of the rattletrap ships headed to America. Thirty years later he was one of the top builders in New York City, among the first to construct the skyscrapers that would form the world's most famous skyline. Intelligence, brilliance, intuition and an ability to stay ahed of the times made him a leading figure in the life of Manhattan. He created garden communities, focused on new technologies and turned to the best architects. Paterno didn't just want to offer houses, but new lifestyles to tens of thousands of people. His first American dream looked like a white castle at the northernmost tip of Manhattan, where he lived for years with his wife and son, sorrounded by a small but very loyal retinue. A friend of Giuseppe Prezzolini, he donated a library of 20.000 books, the Paterno Library, to the Casa Italiana at Columbia University. Fiorello La Guardia, the Italian-American mayor of New York City, called him a genius. Born into poverty, Paterno died a wealthy man on the green of the most exclusive country club in Westchester.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Audio description is one of the many services available to guarantee accessibility to audiovisual media. It describes and narrates images and sounds and resulting audio is then mixed with the original soundtrack. Audio description is a complex process that touches production, distribution and reception. Researching Audio Description: New Approachesgathers academic information and data from the many existing research projects, practices, and training across the world. The book offers a wealth of information on both the practical and philosophical, from different approaches in perception and cognition, and different research methodologies. Project information contained in the contributions identifies trends in current research-funded studies which will be valuable as a pointer towards future proposals. The book shows the dynamic state of audio description practice, training and research, while contributing towards the growing critical mass needed in building the field of accessibility studies.
