Book Synopsis Stable Approximate Evaluation of Unbounded Operators by : C. W. Groetsch
Download or read book Stable Approximate Evaluation of Unbounded Operators written by C. W. Groetsch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectral theory of bounded linear operators teams up with von Neumann’s theory of unbounded operators in this monograph to provide a general framework for the study of stable methods for the evaluation of unbounded operators. An introductory chapter provides numerous illustrations of unbounded linear operators that arise in various inverse problems of mathematical physics. Before the general theory of stabilization methods is developed, an extensive exposition of the necessary background material from the theory of operators on Hilbert space is provided. Several specific stabilization methods are studied in detail, with particular attention to the Tikhonov-Morozov method and its iterated version.
Book Synopsis Spectral Theory of Operators on Hilbert Spaces by : Carlos S. Kubrusly
Download or read book Spectral Theory of Operators on Hilbert Spaces written by Carlos S. Kubrusly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a concise introduction to spectral theory of Hilbert space operators. Its emphasis is on recent aspects of theory and detailed proofs, with the primary goal of offering a modern introductory textbook for a first graduate course in the subject. The coverage of topics is thorough, as the book explores various delicate points and hidden features often left untreated. Spectral Theory of Operators on Hilbert Spaces is addressed to an interdisciplinary audience of graduate students in mathematics, statistics, economics, engineering, and physics. It will also be useful to working mathematicians using spectral theory of Hilbert space operators, as well as for scientists wishing to apply spectral theory to their field.

Book Synopsis Elements of Hilbert Spaces and Operator Theory by : Harkrishan Lal Vasudeva
Download or read book Elements of Hilbert Spaces and Operator Theory written by Harkrishan Lal Vasudeva and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents an introduction to the geometry of Hilbert spaces and operator theory, targeting graduate and senior undergraduate students of mathematics. Major topics discussed in the book are inner product spaces, linear operators, spectral theory and special classes of operators, and Banach spaces. On vector spaces, the structure of inner product is imposed. After discussing geometry of Hilbert spaces, its applications to diverse branches of mathematics have been studied. Along the way are introduced orthogonal polynomials and their use in Fourier series and approximations. Spectrum of an operator is the key to the understanding of the operator. Properties of the spectrum of different classes of operators, such as normal operators, self-adjoint operators, unitaries, isometries and compact operators have been discussed. A large number of examples of operators, along with their spectrum and its splitting into point spectrum, continuous spectrum, residual spectrum, approximate point spectrum and compression spectrum, have been worked out. Spectral theorems for self-adjoint operators, and normal operators, follow the spectral theorem for compact normal operators. The book also discusses invariant subspaces with special attention to the Volterra operator and unbounded operators. In order to make the text as accessible as possible, motivation for the topics is introduced and a greater amount of explanation than is usually found in standard texts on the subject is provided. The abstract theory in the book is supplemented with concrete examples. It is expected that these features will help the reader get a good grasp of the topics discussed. Hints and solutions to all the problems are collected at the end of the book. Additional features are introduced in the book when it becomes imperative. This spirit is kept alive throughout the book.
Book Synopsis Approximation Theory, Wavelets and Applications by : S.P. Singh
Download or read book Approximation Theory, Wavelets and Applications written by S.P. Singh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximation Theory, Wavelets and Applications draws together the latest developments in the subject, provides directions for future research, and paves the way for collaborative research. The main topics covered include constructive multivariate approximation, theory of splines, spline wavelets, polynomial and trigonometric wavelets, interpolation theory, polynomial and rational approximation. Among the scientific applications were de-noising using wavelets, including the de-noising of speech and images, and signal and digital image processing. In the area of the approximation of functions the main topics include multivariate interpolation, quasi-interpolation, polynomial approximation with weights, knot removal for scattered data, convergence theorems in Padé theory, Lyapunov theory in approximation, Neville elimination as applied to shape preserving presentation of curves, interpolating positive linear operators, interpolation from a convex subset of Hilbert space, and interpolation on the triangle and simplex. Wavelet theory is growing extremely rapidly and has applications which will interest readers in the physical, medical, engineering and social sciences.
Book Synopsis Approximation of Elliptic Boundary-Value Problems by : Jean-Pierre Aubin
Download or read book Approximation of Elliptic Boundary-Value Problems written by Jean-Pierre Aubin and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A marriage of the finite-differences method with variational methods for solving boundary-value problems, the finite-element method is superior in many ways to finite-differences alone. This self-contained text for advanced undergraduates and graduate students is intended to imbed this combination of methods into the framework of functional analysis and to explain its applications to approximation of nonhomogeneous boundary-value problems for elliptic operators. The treatment begins with a summary of the main results established in the book. Chapter 1 introduces the variational method and the finite-difference method in the simple case of second-order differential equations. Chapters 2 and 3 concern abstract approximations of Hilbert spaces and linear operators, and Chapters 4 and 5 study finite-element approximations of Sobolev spaces. The remaining four chapters consider several methods for approximating nonhomogeneous boundary-value problems for elliptic operators.
