Book Synopsis An Introduction to Hilbert Space by : N. Young
Download or read book An Introduction to Hilbert Space written by N. Young and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1988-07-21 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is an introduction to the theory of Hilbert space and its applications. The notion of Hilbert space is central in functional analysis and is used in numerous branches of pure and applied mathematics. Dr Young has stressed applications of the theory, particularly to the solution of partial differential equations in mathematical physics and to the approximation of functions in complex analysis. Some basic familiarity with real analysis, linear algebra and metric spaces is assumed, but otherwise the book is self-contained. It is based on courses given at the University of Glasgow and contains numerous examples and exercises (many with solutions). Thus it will make an excellent first course in Hilbert space theory at either undergraduate or graduate level and will also be of interest to electrical engineers and physicists, particularly those involved in control theory and filter design.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book teams up the spectral theory of bounded linear operators with von Neumann’s theory of unbounded operators to provide a framework for the study of stable methods for the evaluation of unbounded operators. The text presents numerous illustrations of unbounded linear operators that arise in various inverse problems of mathematical physics. It also offers an extensive exposition of background material from the theory of operators on Hilbert space.

This book was released on 2019-05-24 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present results related to Kato's famous inequality for bounded linear operators on complex Hilbert spaces obtained by the author in a sequence of recent research papers. As Linear Operator Theory in Hilbert spaces plays a central role in contemporary mathematics, with numerous applications in fields including Partial Differential Equations, Approximation Theory, Optimization Theory, and Numerical Analysis, the volume is intended for use by both researchers in various fields and postgraduate students and scientists applying inequalities in their specific areas. For the sake of completeness, all the results presented are completely proved and the original references where they have been firstly obtained are mentioned.

Book Synopsis Iterative Methods for the Solution of a Linear Operator Equation in Hilbert Space by : W.M., III. Patterson
Download or read book Iterative Methods for the Solution of a Linear Operator Equation in Hilbert Space written by W.M., III. Patterson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this expository work we shall conduct a survey of iterative techniques for solving the linear operator equations Ax=y in a Hilbert space. Whenever convenient these iterative schemes are given in the context of a complex Hilbert space -- Chapter II is devoted to those methods (three in all) which are given only for real Hilbert space. Thus chapter III covers those methods which are valid in a complex Hilbert space except for the two methods which are singled out for special attention in the last two chapters. Specifically, the method of successive approximations is covered in Chapter IV, and Chapter V consists of a discussion of gradient methods. While examining these techniques, our primary concern will be with the convergence of the sequence of approximate solutions. However, we shall often look at estimates of the error and the speed of convergence of a method.
Book Synopsis Elements of Hilbert Spaces and Operator Theory by : Harkrishan Lal Vasudeva
Download or read book Elements of Hilbert Spaces and Operator Theory written by Harkrishan Lal Vasudeva and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents an introduction to the geometry of Hilbert spaces and operator theory, targeting graduate and senior undergraduate students of mathematics. Major topics discussed in the book are inner product spaces, linear operators, spectral theory and special classes of operators, and Banach spaces. On vector spaces, the structure of inner product is imposed. After discussing geometry of Hilbert spaces, its applications to diverse branches of mathematics have been studied. Along the way are introduced orthogonal polynomials and their use in Fourier series and approximations. Spectrum of an operator is the key to the understanding of the operator. Properties of the spectrum of different classes of operators, such as normal operators, self-adjoint operators, unitaries, isometries and compact operators have been discussed. A large number of examples of operators, along with their spectrum and its splitting into point spectrum, continuous spectrum, residual spectrum, approximate point spectrum and compression spectrum, have been worked out. Spectral theorems for self-adjoint operators, and normal operators, follow the spectral theorem for compact normal operators. The book also discusses invariant subspaces with special attention to the Volterra operator and unbounded operators. In order to make the text as accessible as possible, motivation for the topics is introduced and a greater amount of explanation than is usually found in standard texts on the subject is provided. The abstract theory in the book is supplemented with concrete examples. It is expected that these features will help the reader get a good grasp of the topics discussed. Hints and solutions to all the problems are collected at the end of the book. Additional features are introduced in the book when it becomes imperative. This spirit is kept alive throughout the book.
Book Synopsis Approximate Solution of Operator Equations by : M.A. Krasnosel'skii
Download or read book Approximate Solution of Operator Equations written by M.A. Krasnosel'skii and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most important chapters in modern functional analysis is the theory of approximate methods for solution of various mathematical problems. Besides providing considerably simplified approaches to numerical methods, the ideas of functional analysis have also given rise to essentially new computation schemes in problems of linear algebra, differential and integral equations, nonlinear analysis, and so on. The general theory of approximate methods includes many known fundamental results. We refer to the classical work of Kantorovich; the investigations of projection methods by Bogolyubov, Krylov, Keldysh and Petrov, much furthered by Mikhlin and Pol'skii; Tikho nov's methods for approximate solution of ill-posed problems; the general theory of difference schemes; and so on. During the past decade, the Voronezh seminar on functional analysis has systematically discussed various questions related to numerical methods; several advanced courses have been held at Voronezh Uni versity on the application of functional analysis to numerical mathe matics. Some of this research is summarized in the present monograph. The authors' aim has not been to give an exhaustive account, even of the principal known results. The book consists of five chapters.
