Book Synopsis Hand and Finger Injuries in Rock Climbers by : Sébastien Gnecchi
Download or read book Hand and Finger Injuries in Rock Climbers written by Sébastien Gnecchi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-27 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is not only to help climbers and coaches gain a better understanding of medical consultations, but also to offer insights into practical treatment. As regards the medical field, the explanation of the different forces exerted on fingers during climbing allows better assessment of the causes of injuries and can help injured climbers adjust when they return to training. Despite their small size and fragility, fingers are essential in rock-climbing. The publication of this book was motivated by the numerous possible injuries and the required treatments, as well as the desire to connect medicine to this field. Combining scientific and medical research offers a new approach to training and practice. Indeed, promoting cooperation between specialists and coaches for the benefit of climbers can reduce the risk of lesions and improve training.

An excellent line-up of 40 experts and institutions from different countries of the continent is making an effort to understand this phenomenon, which has become worrying, through a complex, retrospective, factual, current, quantified, punctual, prospective and relatively exhaustive analytical inventory. The various contributions are accompanied by strong recommendations that challenge the holders of issues for their application in a process of co-construction for an active citizenship of transformation. It is a document of advocacy/indictment and lobbying in favor of the development, protection and improvement of the social conditions of the elderly and persons with disabilities in Africa in terms of health, food, housing, environment, social protection, income maintenance, employment and education, given their increasing numbers in relative and absolute terms. The issue of socially vulnerable people is thus brought to the forefront of important, if not permanent, political-social and scientific concerns. It is the subject of recurrent investigations and reflections within the special mechanism of the African Union, the Working Group on Elderly Persons and Persons with Disabilities of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights. The initial assignment is to build legal, psychological, socio-anthropological and political vehicles in order to initiate positive change and sustainable protection of VHPs, as well as customary protocols for their valorization in African cultures and traditions.
Book Synopsis Integrating Theory and Practice in Clinical Neuropsychology by : Ellen Perecman
Download or read book Integrating Theory and Practice in Clinical Neuropsychology written by Ellen Perecman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The extent to which a brain injured individual can resume premorbid functioning depends on factors ranging from the physiological to the psychological. Originally published in 1989, the thesis of this volume is that atheoretical application of practical techniques in clinical neuropsychology is as ill-conceived as a neuropsychological theory that fails to acknowledge the role of historical or situational context in behaviour or task performance. The chapters that follow address this thesis as experimental psychologists join clinicians in an effort to bridge the gap between theoretical abstraction and practical reality.
Book Synopsis Being Disabled, Becoming a Champion by : Nicolas Bancel
Download or read book Being Disabled, Becoming a Champion written by Nicolas Bancel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-06-29 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being Disabled, Becoming a Champion is an accessible presentation of current European research on the most recent evolutions in sports for people with disabilities, demonstrating knowledge developed from the field of sports practices of people with disabilities. It covers three interrelated themes. First, it covers the different facets of the history of sports organizations set up during the 1950s for athletes with motor or intellectual impairments. The second part focuses on the athletes themselves. Voices are given to the top-level athletes in adapted sports: people with intellectual impairment; the pioneers of wheelchair racing who invented a new discipline, off-road wheelchair racing; and a former Paralympic athlete who has become a researcher and a defender of specific sports practices. Finally, the third part interrogates the way support for disabled people can modify the existing definitions and conceptions of the body, of disability, of what is human, and of sports performance. This is an ideal text for students and researchers studying and working in the areas of Disability Studies, Sport Sciences and Paralympic Studies. This book was originally published as a special issue of Sport in Society.

Book Synopsis Brunet Saunier Architecture by : Pascale Blin
Download or read book Brunet Saunier Architecture written by Pascale Blin and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Founded in 1981 in Paris, Brunet Saunier Architecture is a French leader in the design of hospitals and large-scale public buildings. This publication is much more than a monograph. It is also a professional reference work, as hospital buildings make up a large portion of the showcased projects. Over the last ten years the architectural office has been developing a successful concept known as “Monospace”. The book discusses and analyzes this concept in detail, presenting trueto- scale floor plans, cross-sections, architectural views, and other information. The Monospace concept – which is based on a process of creative reduction down to essentials, i.e. “simplexity” – is adaptive rather than normative or prescriptive, and based on probabilities rather than determinism. It respects energy, even when it sometimes uses it. It takes the individual’s experience into account, and starts from the position of the subject. It also permits changing perspectives. This design concept should attract attention far beyond the borders of France.
