Book Synopsis Nonlinear Dynamical Systems and Control by : Wassim M. Haddad
Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamical Systems and Control written by Wassim M. Haddad and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-19 with total page 975 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Dynamical Systems and Control presents and develops an extensive treatment of stability analysis and control design of nonlinear dynamical systems, with an emphasis on Lyapunov-based methods. Dynamical system theory lies at the heart of mathematical sciences and engineering. The application of dynamical systems has crossed interdisciplinary boundaries from chemistry to biochemistry to chemical kinetics, from medicine to biology to population genetics, from economics to sociology to psychology, and from physics to mechanics to engineering. The increasingly complex nature of engineering systems requiring feedback control to obtain a desired system behavior also gives rise to dynamical systems. Wassim Haddad and VijaySekhar Chellaboina provide an exhaustive treatment of nonlinear systems theory and control using the highest standards of exposition and rigor. This graduate-level textbook goes well beyond standard treatments by developing Lyapunov stability theory, partial stability, boundedness, input-to-state stability, input-output stability, finite-time stability, semistability, stability of sets and periodic orbits, and stability theorems via vector Lyapunov functions. A complete and thorough treatment of dissipativity theory, absolute stability theory, stability of feedback systems, optimal control, disturbance rejection control, and robust control for nonlinear dynamical systems is also given. This book is an indispensable resource for applied mathematicians, dynamical systems theorists, control theorists, and engineers.
Book Synopsis Averaging Methods in Nonlinear Dynamical Systems by : Jan A. Sanders
Download or read book Averaging Methods in Nonlinear Dynamical Systems written by Jan A. Sanders and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we have developed the asymptotic analysis of nonlinear dynamical systems. We have collected a large number of results, scattered throughout the literature and presented them in a way to illustrate both the underlying common theme, as well as the diversity of problems and solutions. While most of the results are known in the literature, we added new material which we hope will also be of interest to the specialists in this field. The basic theory is discussed in chapters two and three. Improved results are obtained in chapter four in the case of stable limit sets. In chapter five we treat averaging over several angles; here the theory is less standardized, and even in our simplified approach we encounter many open problems. Chapter six deals with the definition of normal form. After making the somewhat philosophical point as to what the right definition should look like, we derive the second order normal form in the Hamiltonian case, using the classical method of generating functions. In chapter seven we treat Hamiltonian systems. The resonances in two degrees of freedom are almost completely analyzed, while we give a survey of results obtained for three degrees of freedom systems. The appendices contain a mix of elementary results, expansions on the theory and research problems.

Book Synopsis Linear, Time-varying Approximations to Nonlinear Dynamical Systems by : Maria Tomas-Rodriguez
Download or read book Linear, Time-varying Approximations to Nonlinear Dynamical Systems written by Maria Tomas-Rodriguez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-02-04 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linear, Time-varying Approximations to Nonlinear Dynamical Systems introduces a new technique for analysing and controlling nonlinear systems. This method is general and requires only very mild conditions on the system nonlinearities, setting it apart from other techniques such as those – well-known – based on differential geometry. The authors cover many aspects of nonlinear systems including stability theory, control design and extensions to distributed parameter systems. Many of the classical and modern control design methods which can be applied to linear, time-varying systems can be extended to nonlinear systems by this technique. The implementation of the control is therefore simple and can be done with well-established classical methods. Many aspects of nonlinear systems, such as spectral theory which is important for the generalisation of frequency domain methods, can be approached by this method.
Book Synopsis Nonlinear Dynamical Systems And Carleman Linearization by : Krzysztof Kowalski
Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamical Systems And Carleman Linearization written by Krzysztof Kowalski and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-03-26 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Carleman linearization has become a new powerful tool in the study of nonlinear dynamical systems. Nevertheless, there is the general lack of familiarity with the Carleman embedding technique among those working in the field of nonlinear models. This book provides a systematic presentation of the Carleman linearization, its generalizations and applications. It also includes a review of existing alternative methods for linearization of nonlinear dynamical systems. There are probably no books covering such a wide spectrum of linearization algorithms. This book also gives a comprehensive introduction to the Kronecker product of matrices, whereas most books deal with it only superficially. The Kronecker product of matrices plays an important role in mathematics and in applications found in theoretical physics.

Download or read book Nonlinear Systems written by P. G. Drazin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-06-26 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theories of bifurcation, chaos and fractals as well as equilibrium, stability and nonlinear oscillations, are part of the theory of the evolution of solutions of nonlinear equations. A wide range of mathematical tools and ideas are drawn together in the study of these solutions, and the results applied to diverse and countless problems in the natural and social sciences, even philosophy. The text evolves from courses given by the author in the UK and the United States. It introduces the mathematical properties of nonlinear systems, mostly difference and differential equations, as an integrated theory, rather than presenting isolated fashionable topics. Topics are discussed in as concrete a way as possible and worked examples and problems are used to explain, motivate and illustrate the general principles. The essence of these principles, rather than proof or rigour, is emphasized. More advanced parts of the text are denoted by asterisks, and the mathematical prerequisites are limited to knowledge of linear algebra and advanced calculus, thus making it ideally suited to both senior undergraduates and postgraduates from physics, engineering, chemistry, meteorology etc. as well as mathematics.
Book Synopsis Understanding Nonlinear Dynamics by : Daniel Kaplan
Download or read book Understanding Nonlinear Dynamics written by Daniel Kaplan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics is playing an ever more important role in the physical and biological sciences, provoking a blurring of boundaries between scientific disciplines and a resurgence of interest in the modern as well as the classical techniques of applied mathematics. This renewal of interest, both in research and teaching, has led to the establishment of the series: Texts in Applied Mathematics ( TAM). The development of new courses is a natural consequence of a high level of excitement on the research frontier as newer techniques, such as numerical and symbolic computer systems, dynamical systems, and chaos, mix with and reinforce the traditional methods of applied mathematics. Thus, the purpose of this textbook series is to meet the current and future needs of these advances and encourage the teaching of new courses. TAM will publish textbooks suitable for use in advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate courses, and will complement the Applied Mathematical Sciences (AMS) series, which will focus on advanced textbooks and research level monographs. About the Authors Daniel Kaplan specializes in the analysis of data using techniques motivated by nonlinear dynamics. His primary interest is in the interpretation of irregular physiological rhythms, but the methods he has developed have been used in geo physics, economics, marine ecology, and other fields. He joined McGill in 1991, after receiving his Ph.D from Harvard University and working at MIT. His un dergraduate studies were completed at Swarthmore College. He has worked with several instrumentation companies to develop novel types of medical monitors.
Book Synopsis Applications of Nonlinear Dynamics by : Visarath In
Download or read book Applications of Nonlinear Dynamics written by Visarath In and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-11 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ?eld of applied nonlinear dynamics has attracted scientists and engineers across many different disciplines to develop innovative ideas and methods to study c- plex behavior exhibited by relatively simple systems. Examples include: population dynamics, ?uidization processes, applied optics, stochastic resonance, ?ocking and ?ightformations, lasers, andmechanicalandelectricaloscillators. Acommontheme among these and many other examples is the underlying universal laws of nonl- ear science that govern the behavior, in space and time, of a given system. These laws are universal in the sense that they transcend the model-speci?c features of a system and so they can be readily applied to explain and predict the behavior of a wide ranging phenomena, natural and arti?cial ones. Thus the emphasis in the past decades has been in explaining nonlinear phenomena with signi?cantly less att- tion paid to exploiting the rich behavior of nonlinear systems to design and fabricate new devices that can operate more ef?ciently. Recently, there has been a series of meetings on topics such as Experimental Chaos, Neural Coding, and Stochastic Resonance, which have brought together many researchers in the ?eld of nonlinear dynamics to discuss, mainly, theoretical ideas that may have the potential for further implementation. In contrast, the goal of the 2007 ICAND (International Conference on Applied Nonlinear Dynamics) was focused more sharply on the implementation of theoretical ideas into actual - vices and systems.
Book Synopsis Nonlinear Dynamical Systems in Economics by : Marji Lines
Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamical Systems in Economics written by Marji Lines and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-03-23 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many problems in theoretical economics are mathematically formalized as dynam ical systems of difference and differential equations. In recent years a truly open approach to studying the dynamical behavior of these models has begun to make its way into the mainstream. That is, economists formulate their hypotheses and study the dynamics of the resulting models rather than formulating the dynamics and studying hypotheses that could lead to models with such dynamics. This is a great progress over using linear models, or using nonlinear models with a linear approach, or even squeezing economic models into well-studied nonlinear systems from other fields. There are today a number of economic journals open to publishing this type of work and some of these have become important. There are several societies which have annual meetings on the subject and participation at these has been growing at a good rate. And of course there are methods and techniques avail able to a more general audience, as well as a greater availability of software for numerical and graphical analysis that makes this type of research even more excit ing. The lecturers for the Advanced School on Nonlinear Dynamical Systems in Economics, who represent a wide selection of the research areas to which the the ory has been applied, agree on the importance of simulations and computer-based analysis. The School emphasized computer applications of models and methods, and all contributors ran computer lab sessions.
