Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the technology of Supercomputing processes, methodologies for approaching problems have also been developed. The main object of this symposium was the interdisciplinary participation of experts in related fields and passionate discussion to work toward the solution of problems. An executive committee especially arranged for this symposium selected speakers and other participants who submitted papers which are included in this volume. Also included are selected extracts from the two sessions of panel discussion, the "Needs and Seeds of Supercomputing", and "The Future of Supercomputing", which arose during a wide-ranging exchange of viewpoints.

This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Work is reported, which was sponsored by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft from 1993 to 1995. Scientists from numerical mathematics, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and turbomachinery present their work on flow simulation with massively parallel systems, on the direct and large-eddy simulation of turbulence, and on mathematical foundations, general solution techniques and applications. Results are reported from benchmark computations of laminar flow around a cylinder, in which seventeen groups participated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) has recently emerged as a field of research and practice that brings together many previously disjointed disciplines and tools of engineering and mathematics. MDO can be described as a technology, environment, or methodology for the design of complex, coupled engineering systems, such as aircraft, automobiles, and other mechanisms, the behavior of which is determined by interacting subsystems.

Book Synopsis Fourth International Symposium on Domain Decomposition Methods for Partial Differential Equations by : R. Glowinski
Download or read book Fourth International Symposium on Domain Decomposition Methods for Partial Differential Equations written by R. Glowinski and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focuses on the notion that by breaking the domain of the original problem into subdomains, such an approach can, if properly implemented, lead to a considerable speedup. The methods are particularly well suited for parallel computers.
Book Synopsis High Performance Computing Demystified by : David Loshin
Download or read book High Performance Computing Demystified written by David Loshin and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Performance Computing Demystified provides an overview of high performance resources and their applications across many disciplines. This book is organized into five parts encompassing 16 chapters that cover the principles, mode of operation, and practical aspects of supercomputers. The first and second parts provide a brief history of high performance computing and describe the “basic parts needed to build high performance computers, including high performance microprocessors and network topologies. The third part examines the features of multiprocessor architectures of high performance, such as the large number crunchers, massively parallel processing machines, and networks of workstations. The fourth part deals with the software paradigms for high performance, while the fifth part looks into the high performance computing resources that are available to the public, with some guide to accessing those resources. This book is intended primarily for engineers and business managers who have a basic understanding of computers and would like to learn about high performance computing.

Book excerpt: Edited versions of 14 papers from a seminar in Lovell, Massachusetts, October 1989, discuss advances in the application of supercomputing to numerically intensive problems in the simulation of fluid flow, especially as it can be substituted for the expensive testing of physical models in the design of aircraft, space craft, and automobiles. Focuses on solving the Navier-Stokes or the Euler equations for which several high- level algorithms and codes are not being developed that exploit the increasingly sophisticated types of computer architecture, such as parallel and vector processing. Book Synopsis Supercomputers and Fluid Dynamics by : Kunio Kuwahara
Download or read book Supercomputers and Fluid Dynamics written by Kunio Kuwahara and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past several years, it has become apparent that computing will soon achieve a status within science and engineering to the classical scientific methods of laboratory experiment and theoretical analysis. The foremost tools of state-of-the-art computing applications are supercomputers, which are simply the fastest and biggest computers available at any given time. Supercomputers and supercomputing go hand-in-hand in pacing the development of scientific and engineering applications of computing. Experience has shown that supercomputers improve in speed and capability by roughly a factor 1000 every 20 years. Supercomputers today include the Cray XMP and Cray-2, manufactured by Cray Research, Inc., the Cyber 205, manufactured by Control Data Corporation, the Fujitsu VP, manufactured by Fujitsu, Ltd., the Hitachi SA-810/20, manufactured by Hitachi, Ltd., and the NEC SX, manufactured by NEC, Inc. The fastest of these computers are nearly three orders-of-magnitude faster than the fastest computers available in the mid-1960s, like the Control Data CDC 6600. While the world-wide market for supercomputers today is only about 50 units per year, it is expected to grow rapidly over the next several years to about 200 units per year.
