Book Synopsis Nonlinear Systems Analysis by : M. Vidyasagar
Download or read book Nonlinear Systems Analysis written by M. Vidyasagar and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When M. Vidyasagar wrote the first edition of Nonlinear Systems Analysis, most control theorists considered the subject of nonlinear systems a mystery. Since then, advances in the application of differential geometric methods to nonlinear analysis have matured to a stage where every control theorist needs to possess knowledge of the basic techniques because virtually all physical systems are nonlinear in nature. The second edition, now republished in SIAM's Classics in Applied Mathematics series, provides a rigorous mathematical analysis of the behavior of nonlinear control systems under a variety of situations. It develops nonlinear generalizations of a large number of techniques and methods widely used in linear control theory. The book contains three extensive chapters devoted to the key topics of Lyapunov stability, input-output stability, and the treatment of differential geometric control theory. Audience: this text is designed for use at the graduate level in the area of nonlinear systems and as a resource for professional researchers and practitioners working in areas such as robotics, spacecraft control, motor control, and power systems.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the study of integrable systems, two different approaches in particular have attracted considerable attention during the past twenty years. (1) The inverse scattering transform (IST), using complex function theory, which has been employed to solve many physically significant equations, the `soliton' equations. (2) Twistor theory, using differential geometry, which has been used to solve the self-dual Yang--Mills (SDYM) equations, a four-dimensional system having important applications in mathematical physics. Both soliton and the SDYM equations have rich algebraic structures which have been extensively studied. Recently, it has been conjectured that, in some sense, all soliton equations arise as special cases of the SDYM equations; subsequently many have been discovered as either exact or asymptotic reductions of the SDYM equations. Consequently what seems to be emerging is that a natural, physically significant system such as the SDYM equations provides the basis for a unifying framework underlying this class of integrable systems, i.e. `soliton' systems. This book contains several articles on the reduction of the SDYM equations to soliton equations and the relationship between the IST and twistor methods. The majority of nonlinear evolution equations are nonintegrable, and so asymptotic, numerical perturbation and reduction techniques are often used to study such equations. This book also contains articles on perturbed soliton equations. Painlevé analysis of partial differential equations, studies of the Painlevé equations and symmetry reductions of nonlinear partial differential equations. Download or read book Applications of Nonlinear Dynamics written by Visarath In and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-11 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ?eld of applied nonlinear dynamics has attracted scientists and engineers across many different disciplines to develop innovative ideas and methods to study c- plex behavior exhibited by relatively simple systems. Examples include: population dynamics, ?uidization processes, applied optics, stochastic resonance, ?ocking and ?ightformations, lasers, andmechanicalandelectricaloscillators. Acommontheme among these and many other examples is the underlying universal laws of nonl- ear science that govern the behavior, in space and time, of a given system. These laws are universal in the sense that they transcend the model-speci?c features of a system and so they can be readily applied to explain and predict the behavior of a wide ranging phenomena, natural and arti?cial ones. Thus the emphasis in the past decades has been in explaining nonlinear phenomena with signi?cantly less att- tion paid to exploiting the rich behavior of nonlinear systems to design and fabricate new devices that can operate more ef?ciently. Recently, there has been a series of meetings on topics such as Experimental Chaos, Neural Coding, and Stochastic Resonance, which have brought together many researchers in the ?eld of nonlinear dynamics to discuss, mainly, theoretical ideas that may have the potential for further implementation. In contrast, the goal of the 2007 ICAND (International Conference on Applied Nonlinear Dynamics) was focused more sharply on the implementation of theoretical ideas into actual - vices and systems.

This book was released on 2011-03-04 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This distinctive volume presents a clear, rigorous grounding in modern nonlinear integrable dynamics theory and applications in mathematical physics, and an introduction to timely leading-edge developments in the field — including some innovations by the authors themselves — that have not appeared in any other book. The exposition begins with an introduction to modern integrable dynamical systems theory, treating such topics as Liouville-Arnold and Mischenko-Fomenko integrability. This sets the stage for such topics as new formulations of the gradient-holonomic algorithm for Lax integrability, novel treatments of classical integration by quadratures, Lie-algebraic characterizations of integrability, and recent results on tensor Poisson structures. Of particular note is the development via spectral reduction of a generalized de Rham-Hodge theory, related to Delsarte-Lions operators, leading to new Chern type classes useful for integrability analysis. Also included are elements of quantum mathematics along with applications to Whitham systems, gauge theories, hadronic string models, and a supplement on fundamental differential-geometric concepts making this volume essentially self-contained.This book is ideal as a reference and guide to new directions in research for advanced students and researchers interested in the modern theory and applications of integrable (especially infinite-dimensional) dynamical systems.

Book Synopsis Order and Chaos in Nonlinear Physical Systems by : Stig Lundqvist
Download or read book Order and Chaos in Nonlinear Physical Systems written by Stig Lundqvist and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is concerned with the theoretical description of patterns and instabilities and their relevance to physics, chemistry, and biology. More specifically, the theme of the work is the theory of nonlinear physical systems with emphasis on the mechanisms leading to the appearance of regular patterns of ordered behavior and chaotic patterns of stochastic behavior. The aim is to present basic concepts and current problems from a variety of points of view. In spite of the emphasis on concepts, some effort has been made to bring together experimental observations and theoretical mechanisms to provide a basic understanding of the aspects of the behavior of nonlinear systems which have a measure of generality. Chaos theory has become a real challenge to physicists with very different interests and also in many other disciplines, of which astronomy, chemistry, medicine, meteorology, economics, and social theory are already embraced at the time of writing. The study of chaos-related phenomena has a truly interdisciplinary charac ter and makes use of important concepts and methods from other disciplines. As one important example, for the description of chaotic structures the branch of mathematics called fractal geometry (associated particularly with the name of Mandelbrot) has proved invaluable. For the discussion of the richness of ordered structures which appear, one relies on the theory of pattern recognition. It is relevant to mention that, to date, computer studies have greatly aided the analysis of theoretical models describing chaos.
Book Synopsis Nonlinear Systems by : Christos K. Volos
Download or read book Nonlinear Systems written by Christos K. Volos and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A non-linear system is a set of nonlinear equations, which may be algebraic, ordinary differential, partial differential, fractional, integral or a combination of these. Especially, nowadays, the term dynamical system is used as a synonym of nonlinear systems where the nonlinear equations represent the evolution of a solution over time. So, the notion of dynamical systems arose following the name of equations governing the motion of a system of particles, even though the nonlinear system may have no application to mechanics. Also, from an engineering point of view a nonlinear system may be represented with a feedback loop in which the output of an element is not proportional to its input. Over the last few decades, nonlinear systems have been used to describe a great variety of phenomena, in social and life sciences as well as in physical sciences and engineering. The theory of nonlinear systems has applications to problems of population growth, economics, chemical reactions, celestial mechanics, physiology of nerves, onset of turbulence, regulation of heartbeats, electronic circuits, cryptography, secure communications and many others. Nonlinear dynamical systems, which present chaotic behaviour, are of great importance due to their applications in science and engineering. Chaotic systems are nonlinear dynamical systems and maps that are highly sensitive to initial conditions. The sensitivity of initial conditions is usually called the butterfly effect for dynamical systems and maps. So, nowadays the design and analysis of nonlinear systems and especially chaotic systems has gained the interest of the research community due to the fact that many phenomena on financial, physical, biological, chemical, mechanical and engineering systems can be modelled and studied through the perspective of non-linear dynamics. These nonlinear systems can be modelled by discrete-time or continuous-time mathematical models. This book aims to bridge the gap between the design/analysis and applications, which are the two research stages on the progress of nonlinear systems and also which open up some new directions of real applications, where chaos can be put up to technological use, including secure communication systems, electronic circuits design, memristors and radar. Finally, this book can serve as an updated and handy reference for university professors, graduate students, laboratory researchers as well as physicists and applied mathematicians who are interested in studying the chaos and its applications through the field of nonlinear systems.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Analysis by : Nicola Fusco
Download or read book Mathematical Analysis written by Nicola Fusco and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a textbook on Mathematical Analysis written by expert lecturers in the field. This textbook, other than the classical differentiation and integration tools for functions of several real variables, metric spaces, ordinary differential equations, implicit function and so on, also provides opportunities to go deeper into certain topics: among them, the Ascoli-Arzelà theorem, the regularity of convex functions in R^n, L^p spaces and absolutely continuous functions, all topics that are paramount in modern Mathematical Analysis. Other instances include the Weierstrass theorem on polynomial approximation of continuous functions or Peano's existence theorem (typically only existence, without uniqueness) for nonlinear ODEs and systems under general assumptions. The content is discussed in an elementary way and, at a successive stage, some topics are examined from several, more penetrating, angles. The agile organization of the subject matter helps instructors to effortlessly determine which parts to present during lectures and where to stop. The authors believe that any textbook can contribute to the success of a lecture course only to a point, and the choices made by lecturers are decisive in this respect. The book is addressed to graduate or undergraduate honors students in Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Computer Science, Statistics and Probability, attending Mathematical Analysis courses at the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Economics and Architecture.
