Book Synopsis geoENV IV — Geostatistics for Environmental Applications by : Xavier Sanchez-Vila

This book was released on 2004-05-31 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourth edition of the European Conference on Geostatistics for Environmental Applications (geoENV IV) took place in Barcelona, November 27-29, 2002. As a proof that there is an increasing interest in environmental issues in the geostatistical community, the conference attracted over 100 participants, mostly Europeans (up to 10 European countries were represented), but also from other countries in the world. Only 46 contributions, selected out of around 100 submitted papers, were invited to be presented orally during the conference. Additionally 30 authors were invited to present their work in poster format during a special session. All oral and poster contributors were invited to submit their work to be considered for publication in this Kluwer series. All papers underwent a reviewing process, which consisted on two reviewers for oral presentations and one reviewer for posters. The book opens with one keynote paper by Philippe Naveau. It is followed by 40 papers that correspond to those presented orally during the conference and accepted by the reviewers. These papers are classified according to their main topic. The list of topics show the diversity of the contributions and the fields of application. At the end of the book, summaries of up to 19 poster presentations are added. The geoENV conferences stress two issues, namely geostatistics and environmental applications. Thus, papers can be classified into two groups.

Download or read book Adjustments to Changes in Fisheries Law and Economics written by Barbara C. Cleveland and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 1985 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 1970's there have been significant changes in the conditions governing the exploitation of marine fishery resources. These changes include the generalized extension of national jurisdiction over fisheries to 200 nautical miles; the decline in the rate of growth of world catch and the growing evidence of limits to supply; and the changes in economic conditions including the rise in fuel prices and the economic recessions. These changes have had significantly different effects on different countries. This document contains case studies of the effects on eight countries: Argentina, Australia, Cuba, Kiribati, Malaysia, Morocco, Norway and Poland.

Book Synopsis Marine Invertebrate Fisheries by : John F. Caddy
Download or read book Marine Invertebrate Fisheries written by John F. Caddy and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1989-01-17 with total page 772 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems Analysis and Simulation in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences William E. Grant This hands-on approach provides guidance to the step-by-step applications of systems analysis and simulation to questions about ecological systems. At the same time, it explains general principles without requiring that readers have a strong background in mathematics, statistics, or computer science. Chapter 1 traces the development of systems ecology introducing basic concepts, while Chapters 2 through 5 present the four phases of systems analysis: conceptual model formulation, quantitative specification of the model, model validation, and model use. 1986 (0 471-89236-X) 338 pp. Bioeconomic Modelling and Fisheries Management Colin W. Clark Discusses the management of commercial marine fisheries and the relationship between the economic forces affecting the fishing industry and the biological factors that determine the production and supply of fish in the sea. Topics focus on methods of preventing overfishing and overcapitalization, economically effective and practical forms of regulation, management of developing fisheries, natural fluctuations of fish stocks, and complexities of marine ecosystems. 1985 (0 471-87394-2) 291 pp. Methods in Marine Zooplankton Ecology Makoto Omori and Tsutomu Ikeda Encompassing basic principles, procedures, and research problems, this book serves as a complete guide to current methods used in the study of marine zooplankton. The techniques are equally applicable to small organisms and to the larval stages of larger, commercially important organisms. Chapters start with a brief, but well-summarized introduction to zooplankton, followed by field sampling strategies and laboratory methods, and then conclude with estimates of productivity and analysis of community structure. Each method is described in detail, including a discussion of the problems inherent in using it. 1984 (0 471-80107-0) 322 pp.
