Book Synopsis Demonstration of TRAF-NETSIM for Traffic Operations Management by : Joan D. Sulzberg
Download or read book Demonstration of TRAF-NETSIM for Traffic Operations Management written by Joan D. Sulzberg and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The utility of the simulation package TRAF-NETSIM to the traffic engineer is assessed and demonstrated by means of a case study. The methodology employed in performing the analysis is presented in a way that will aid future users of TRAF-NETSIM. The advantages and disadvantages ofTRAF-NETSIM are documented along with the human resource requirements for a first-time application of the program. TRAF-NETS1M permits the engineer to compare alternative control and design strategies for a traffic intersection, corridor, or network and allows the user to design and test within the office environment the simulation of many traffic options. TRAF-NETSIM attempts to be as realistic as possible. Lanes can be channelized for turns only or designated for carpool or bus activity: Pedestrian activity, long- and short-term events, and bus routes can be simulated as well. Creativity permits the engineer to evaluate unusual networks when required. The output ofTRAF-NETSIM provides the user with a host of measures of effectiveness to compare traffic options. Delay time/vehicle, number of phase failures, speed, vehicle miles, stops/vehicle trip are some of the measures of effectiveness that can be used to evaluate networks.

Book excerpt: This handbook is an update of the 1983 edition and reflects the tremendous developments in computing and communications technology. It also reflects the importance of "Integrated" Transportation Management Systems and the development of the concept of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The handbook development began with a survey of current practice, including site visits and interviews, of ten Freeway Management Systems throughout the country. It was developed under the advice of a panel of freeway management practitioners. The 1997 edition is organized in modular fashion with each module addressing a particular aspect or technology of the freeway management task. The modules are stand-alone treatments of particular areas of freeway management but are cross-referenced to reflect their interdependence

Download or read book Performance Survey on Open-graded Friction Course Mixes written by Gerald Huber and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2000 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to pavement construction, maintenance, design, and materials engineers; pavement contractors; and others interested in the use of open-graded friction course (OGFC) mixes. It describes the current state of the practice on the use of OGFC mixes, including information regarding design, materials, construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation strategies. Alternative treatments to traditional OGFC are also identified and discussed. Information was collected by surveying U.S. and Canadian transportation agencies and by conducting a literature search to gather additional insight into North American and European practices. This TRB report describes the recent performance of North American OGFC mixes and European porous asphalt by identifying benefits and stress indicators. A new generation of OGFC mixes has evolved over the last 5 years with changes that have been reported to dramatically improve performance. This synthesis describes new materials and design methods being used, as well as the applicability of the new generation of open-graded mixtures to North American use.
