Once you visit this quiet area of the Florida Panhandle, however, you'll never forget it, I promise you. This part of Florida has nothing in common with South Beach and Miami, and the people here prefer it that way. Here's you'll fine a complete guide (updated a couple of times a year) for everything you need to experience a great Long Weekend in Apalachicola. You'll love the area's wide beaches, the low-key lifestyle and the endless supply of great seafood. "We've always preferred the Florida Panhandle to other parts of the West Coast-it's less crowded, the people are more down-to-earth and the prices are cheaper. We found a couple of nice restaurants in this Guide we hadn't known about before." --- Louise S., Boston "Was really happy with the restaurant selection-and the shortness of the book. I got everything I needed to know in no time at all. We checked out 2 of the inns and chose the second one we visited. No filler and fluff in this handy guide." --- Charleen H., Chattanooga You'll save a lot of time using this concise guide. =Lodgings, variously priced =Fine & budget restaurants, more than enough listings to give you a sense of the variety to be found. =Principal attractions -- don't waste your precious time on the lesser ones. We've done all the work for you. =A handful of interesting shopping ideas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Riparian Landscapes examines the ecological systems of streamside and floodplain areas from the perspective of landscape ecology. The specific spatial pattern of riparian vegetation is seen as a result of, and a control on, the ecological, geomorphological, and hydrological processes that operate along rivers. Riparian structures are controlled by the spatial dynamics of channels, flooding and soil moisture. These dynamics are part of integrated cascades of water, sediment, nutrients and carbon, to which animal and plant species respond in ways that illuminate community structure and competition. The role of the riparian zone in controlling species distribution and abundance is discussed. Intelligent management of these valuable ecological resources is highlighted. The potential for linking hydrological, geomorphological and ecological simulation models is also explored. This book will be of interest to graduate and professional research workers in environmental science, ecology and physical geography.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Mary Jo Putney is acclaimed by critics and readers alike for unforgettable storytelling and arresting characters. Now she introduces a Regency England you've never seen before, where dazzling magic is practiced in all but the highest reaches of Society, and where desire is the most mysterious and seductive force of all. One of the Duke of Wellington's most respected officers, Jack Langdon, Lord Frayne, takes his family's honor very seriously. He also hides a shameful secret: a talent for sorcery he has been raised to suppress and openly reject. But after an injury lands Jack at death's door, his only chance at survival lies with Abigail Barton, a peer's daughter and a skilled wizard. Her price: Jack's hand in marriage. It isn't long before Jack feels an irresistible attraction to his forthright new wife, whose allure is as intense as the reawakening magical abilities he can no longer deny. Abigail had to make a great sacrifice to perform a spell powerful enough to save Lord Frayne, and although she cannot help but be drawn to her reluctant husband's surprising sensitivity and kindness, she knows all too well his distaste for magic. Once she has Jack's name and the child she has always longed for, she is determined to live apart from him so that he can preserve his reputation-and so that she herself can stay true to her gifts. But neither Abby nor Jack reckons on the deep, long-simmering passions her spell ignites. They challenge each other's extraordinary powers and deepest desires for the sake of a love that may cost them all they cherish most. With breathtaking skill and vivid historical detail, Mary Jo Putney weaves a tale of enchantment, mystery, and romance that will forever hold you spellbound. From the Hardcover edition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book reviews the water-agro-food and socio-eco-system of the Seine River basin (76,000 km2), and offers a historical perspective on the river’s long-term contamination. The Seine basin is inhabited by circa 17 million people and is impacted by intensive agricultural practices and industrial activities. These pressures have gradually affected its hydrological, chemical and ecological functioning, leading to a maximum chemical degradation between the 1960s and the 1990s. Over the last three decades, while major water-quality improvements have been observed, new issues (e.g. endocrine disruptors, microplastics) have also emerged. The state of the Seine River network, from the headwaters to estuary, is increasingly controlled by the balance between pressures and social responses. This socio-ecosystem provides a unique example of the functioning of a territory under heavy anthropogenic pressure during the Anthropocene era. The achievements made were possible due to the long-term PIREN Seine research program, established in 1989 and today part of the French socio-ecological research network “Zones Ateliers”, itself part of the international Long-term Socio-economic and Ecological Research Network (LTSER). Written by experts in the field, the book provides an introduction to the water budget and the territorial metabolism of the Seine basin, and studies the trajectories and impact of various pollutants in the Seine River. It offers insights into the ecological functioning, the integration of agricultural practices, the analysis of aquatic organic matter, and the evolution of fish assemblages in the Seine basin, and also presents research perspectives and approaches to improve the water quality of the Seine River. Given its scope, it will appeal to environmental managers, scientists and policymakers interested in the long-term contamination of the Seine River.
