Book excerpt: When seventy-nine-year-old Anton Watson enters Serenity Haven, an Alzheimer's facility in Tomball, Texas, he seems like an ordinary, frail, old man. No one would guess that Anton has lived a double life since he was a boy of thirteen growing up on a small farm in the south Texas valley. In a short period of time when he is a teen, Anton loses his mother, his father, and the family's farm. It's on this farm that evil takes hold of the young boy. Anton's rage is at first directed toward the farm's animals; he knows that acting on his other fantasies and thoughts will lead him straight to prison and even death row. But one stormy night, he can't control his urges, and a serial murderer is born. Neither his wife, Doris, nor his son, Victor, knew they were living with a killer. His motto be patient, be wise, and be fast served him well, and he has gone unnoticed by the police for over fifty years. Old age and a frail body put a stop to his malevolent behavior more than a decade ago. Now living in an Alzheimer's facility, his horrible deeds come to the forefront as he loses his short-term memory and dives deeper and deeper into his horror-filled past.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I don't think I've ever met anyone who hasn't struggled with the desire to know God's will. The problem is, this struggle often involved a great deal of confusion and worry." ?Chuck Swindoll Many people have the idea that if they could just somehow find that single planned direction, they would be effortlessly swept through life. But life is not like that. Probably the most misunderstood factor of discovering God's will is the thought that, If I do this, the struggles will end, the questions are over, the answers come, and I live hapily ever after. But that's not reality. Does that mean that God's will must remain opaque to us?that we must muddle and grope blindly through life with no clue to what He wants for us? "Not at all," says Charles Swindoll. In this groundbreaking book, Swindoll invites us to join him on a spiritual quest. "I believe God's will for us in this life is not some black-and-white objective designed to take us to an appointed destination here on earth as much as it is about the journey itself . . . and what matters to Him in our lives." The Mystery of God's Will overflows with practical insights, humor, and unforgettable stories that will de-mystify, clarify, and put your mind at ease.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many devotional books available containing brief, daily inspirations that benefit all who read them. This book is different in two respects. The first is obvious: it contains two readings per day—732 in all. The second, more important difference is that the author wanted to do more than offer inspiration; this would make this book no different than so many others. The messages in the book are study sketches in that the content is not only inspirational, but also educational, challenging, and encouraging. Most of these writings were based on author Michael J. Akers’s teaching of adult Bible studies for more than thirty years and learning what really brought adults to want to deepen their knowledge and application of the Word of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As for that officer who greeted me when I graduated from the B-52 school and made the remark “What are you doing here?” when I came back to Carswell Air Base again for the second time in the hangar, well when the hospital was closing its doors for good, I saw him walking slowly from the hospital. I called out to him, and we exchanged greetings. While he asked what I was doing these days, I noticed that he was much older and walked slower using a cane. Then he told me, “Don, I have known you from 1950, and I have served with you in many different occasions. I stayed in touch with most of the men who served with me. When I first met you, you were just a young kid—aged nineteen and always getting into trouble. Then you got married and settled down. I always said you would amount to something good when I noticed the way you made your choices in your careers. Looks like you did okay.” After a year, I read in the paper that he passed away. Today I don’t see much of my son’s ex-wife (who I felt was as if she were my own daughter), and I still wonder why things like that happened. To walk away from a marriage of eighteen years and three children . . . I repeat: “Why?” Many of my military buddies are gone to the military heavens, so are many of my Ashton hometown school guys that I attended school with. I am still around. I have to wonder if what did happen in that cold watery accident in New Jersey when I found myself down in that river—was it just the way the brain reacts to prevent one from becoming brain-dead from fright, or was it the work of some supreme act from God?

By the time a person is 60 years old, he would have spent 20 years sleeping and dreaming. Your dreams are your spiritual monitoring system. Many do not know what is happening to their lives because, they do not understand their dreams. The land of slumber is as important as life itself. Dreams from God are to: assure, encourage, comfort, direct, instruct, guide, exhort, correct, warn or reveal the plan and purposes of God. Satanic dreams are noted for their absurdity, emptiness, harassment and punishment by dream criminals. This book teaches you how to understand your dreams and how to deal with your dream battles. This book is a must for every serious Christian home. Read it and pray the prayer points therein and your life will no longer remain the same.

Book excerpt: How do we live out the message of Jesus in today's ever-changing culture? The church is facing its greatest challenge---and its greatest opportunity---in our postmodern, post-Christian world. God is drawing thousands of spiritually curious 'imperfect people' to become his church---but how are we doing at welcoming them? No Perfect People Allowed shows you how to deconstruct the five main barriers standing between emerging generations and your church by creating the right culture. From inspiring stories of real people once far from God, to practical ideas that can be applied by any local church, this book offers a refreshing vision of the potential and power of the Body of Christ to transform lives today. 'We now are living in a post-Christian America---and that means we must be rethinking ministry through a missionary mindset. What makes this book both unique and extremely helpful is that it is filled with real-life stories of post-Christian people becoming followers of Jesus---not just statistics or data about them.' Dan Kimball, Author, The Emerging Church '. . . John's 'get it' factor with people, lost or found, is something to behold! Reading this book filled me with optimism regarding the next generation of pastors and faith communities . . .' Bill Hybels, Senior Pastor, Willow Creek Community Church No Perfect People Allowed is a timely and necessary word for church leaders in a post Christian culture. John Burke serves up quite a tasty meal full of the rich nutrients that will strengthen the Body of Christ.
