Tambien analiza el papel de la razon en el gobierno de la vida. Razon y experiencia se conjugan para ofrecer una filosofia que es, ante todo sabiduria, o arte de vivir. A la luz de este enfoque mas vital de su filosofia se invita al lector a adentrarse al pensamiento del filosofo frances, para quien la filosofia debia ser un quehacer practico y no meramente especulativo. Las ciencias deben estar puestas al servicio de los hombres para aliviar sus necesidades materiales, pero tambien para desarrollar su calidad de seres morales.
