Book excerpt: The research was predicated on three assumptions: first individuals prefer situations which are predictable and controllable; second, the exercise of choice may enhance the individual's perception of control; third, the sense of control has motivational consequences which may enhance performance on a variety to tasks. Most researchers in this field recognize that the possibility for real control is illusory by nevertheless a belief in its existence by the individual contributes to an enhanced feeling of well being and self regard. To study the development of perceived control, attempts were made to determine how the opportunity to make choices may contribute to the perception of control. This report provides the results of this study. (Author).

This book was released on 2021-08-18 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last decades, a considerable amount of research has been directed towards explaining the concept of Digital Human Resource Management (DHRM). Yet, a holistic assessment of DHRM antecedents and consequences with respect to possible contextual contingencies is still missing. To this end, this thesis introduces a research framework illuminating the multifaceted phenomenon of DHRM from various perspectives. An exploratory four-step meta-analytic structural equation modelling (E-MASEM) approach tailored to address the domain-specific challenges of DHRM is introduced and applied. Results identify 32 constructs associated with the DHRM usage phenomenon which are categorized into DHRM antecedents and DHRM consequences. Findings reveal that user perceptions, expectations, attitudes, and intentions are essential in predicting DHRM usage while HRM service quality and user satisfaction are found crucial in explaining other DHRM consequences. Further, practitioners are informed about the relative importance of factors for both facilitating DHRM adoption and measuring DHRM success. Lastly, this thesis also contributes to the MASEM methodology by outlining a new approach to summarize statistical inferences from multiple moderator tests.

Book Synopsis Modeling Antecedents and Consequences of Deliberative Decision Making Within Personnel Selection by : Nathaniel M. Voss
Download or read book Modeling Antecedents and Consequences of Deliberative Decision Making Within Personnel Selection written by Nathaniel M. Voss and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While hiring decisions are a frequent organizational occurrence that can substantially impact the decision maker, the organization, and/or society as a whole, employees do not always make optimal hiring decisions. This failure to make optimal decisions may occur because employees do not utilize deliberative processes (e.g., systematically gathering information, evaluating choice alternatives, taking time to decide etc.). Accordingly, the goal of the present study was to propose an integrative model of some antecedents and consequences of deliberative decision making within personnel selection. Data gathered from 322 hiring managers indicated that when managers felt accountable for their hiring decisions and possessed a deliberative decision making style, they were more likely to report making hiring decisions in a deliberative manner. This use of deliberation was, in turn, associated with high quality decisions (i.e., low regret, high satisfaction, and high performance ratings of the person that was hired). The results also indicated the relationship between accountability and decision quality was mediated by deliberative processes. These findings were consistent across multiple hiring decisions. Importantly, these results did not emerge when intuitive processes/style were examined. Collectively, these results help establish the ecological validity of various theories of decision making and specify that deliberative processes are associated with high quality selection decisions. These results can be leveraged by organizations who are interested in encouraging employees to utilize deliberative processes. Given the benefits of deliberative processes, these results may also be leveraged by workers who are interested in achieving higher task performance in their jobs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Binge and Bingeability: The Antecedents and Consequences of Binge Watching Behavior examines how the television industry has transformed over time to create the circumstances in which binge watching as a mass behavior can emerge, and what role audiences have played in the rising prevalence of this behavior. Arienne Ferchaud, recognizing that this behavior did not spring, fully formed, from streaming services, ties cultural approaches to binge watching with media psychology-oriented theories, including the concept of “bingeability”—the likelihood that a specific sow will be binge watched—alongside the psychological impacts binge watching may have on viewers over time. Scholars of media studies, television studies, sociology, cultural studies, and psychology will find this book particularly useful.

Book Synopsis Antecedents and Consequences of Dual Forces in Consumer Replacement Decisions by : Catherine Ann Roster
Download or read book Antecedents and Consequences of Dual Forces in Consumer Replacement Decisions written by Catherine Ann Roster and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Replacement decisions can be influenced by and involve choices regarding a possession the consumer already owns and has prior experience with. This research investigated the influence of incumbent possession ownership on consumer replacement decisions for durable products. Inherently, replacement contemplations require decision-makers to commit to two separate, yet interrelated, courses of action. On one hand, they must decide whether or not to retain the incumbent possession, which is in essence a disposition decision. On the other hand, they must also decide whether or not to acquire a replacement product, which is in essence an acquisition decision. This study adopted this dual perspective in order to examine various antecedent variables related to the formation of attitudes toward both retention and acquisition, the role of these attitudes in predicting behavioral intentions, and psychological consequences of conflicting forces present within the replacement decision paradigm. Findings suggest that incumbent possession ownership can exert influence on consumer replacement decisions in a variety of ways, including increased propensities toward outcomes that allow consumers to retain incumbent possessions they want and feel they should continue to keep. Also, equally strong attitudes toward continued retention of possessions and acquisition of new replacement products is a source of conflict for replacement decision makers.

Book Synopsis Antecedents and Consequences of Consumer Service Decision-making Self-efficacy by : Dena Hale
Download or read book Antecedents and Consequences of Consumer Service Decision-making Self-efficacy written by Dena Hale and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's competitive market, consumers are repeatedly exposed to various marketing stimuli and they must decide which to ignore and to which to attend. Consumers make decisions about the purchase of goods and services every day and are thought to engage in some level of the decision making process. When faced with a service purchase decision, the successful completion of a variety of tasks is necessary to ensure that the most appropriate choice is selected. A consumer's belief in his/her abilities, or self-efficacy, to make a decision affects not only the type of information considered, but also the way the information is interpreted and used to manage environmental challenges (Bandura 1995). In an attempt to assist consumers in making more efficient and secure service-related decisions, this dissertation explores the concept of self-efficacy and the consumer decision making process in a service context. This research study is examined within the context of a medical insurance purchase. A scale to measure consumer self-efficacy for a medical service (CSDMSE) is developed, and its effects on the decision-making process for a medical insurance purchase are examined. The model is empirically tested to examine the effect of CSDMSE on search effort expended, perceived task complexity, use of consumer agents, and perceived risk uncertainty of the medical insurance purchase. Results of this study indicate that CSDMSE is a higher-order construct, comprised of three lower-order self-efficacy constructs for each of the examined decision-making tasks: (i) information search (SISSE), (ii) alternative evaluation (SAESE), and (iii) choice (SCSE). This study also demonstrates that consumers with higher levels of CSDMSE perceive decision tasks to be less complex, thus leading to a reduced perception of risk uncertainty. Therefore, if a service provider sells a service that consumers consider risky or highly uncertainty, service managers can reduce this perceived risk uncertainty indirectly by increasing the consumer's self-efficacy for the service purchase. This will also lead to perceptions of decreased decision task complexity. Thus, the findings of this study provide service managers a means to measure the consumer's self-efficacy related to the service purchase and provides insights into understanding how self-efficacy affects the decision process.
