Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jean-Claude Racinet has devoted his life to the vindication of "L'equitation de L'egerete" (riding in lightness) which fosters balance by relaxing the horse-more so his mouth-excluding force in the wielding of the aids. Also written by Racinet: Total Horsemanship, Racinet Explains Baucher This practical manual, describes the horsemanship of French Tradition - characterized by lightness - from a down-to-earth point of view. Born in Paris in 1929, Jean-Claude Racinet is a graduate of St. Cyr, the French West Point, Class of 1950. He was a member of the French contingent in Korea (1950-53), where he was wounded twice. As an officer of the French army, he spent seven years in Tunisia and Algeria (1954-61) and four more years in Europe. While he spent most of his army career during the time when the military was getting rid of their horses, he managed, between and during his sojourns overseas, to successfully attend the Superior Equitation Course in the Cavalry School of Saumur (1953-54), winning the title of Champion of Tunisia in open jumping (1956), and to become a member of the Jumping Team of the Military School in Paris (1953). Riding teacher and trainer as a civilian after 9165, he was more particularly known by his retraining of difficult horses and later as an equestrian journalist by his always witty and sometimes scathing articles in the French equestrian monthly L'Information Hippique. In the United States since 1983, Jean-Claude Racinet became a successful teacher, trainer, lecturer, clinician, and author. Xenophon Press published in 1994 his highly popular book Another Horsemanship, now in its second printing. Jean-Claude Racinet has devoted his life to the vindication of "L'equitation de Legerete" (riding in lightness), which fosters balance by relaxing the horse - more so his mouth - excluding force in the wielding of the aids. In fact, the very essence of riding in the French Classical tradition. softcover, 125 pages, illustrated. Excerpt from the book: When one pushes on a horse with the legs, he goes forward, and so does the bit. So, not much should happen as concerns the coming "onto the bit" of the horse, unless one pushes and pulls at the same time. Now, if you push and pull together you give your horse two opposite orders; "go - don't go," and he can only be confused by the contradiction. Most of the time, he will choose to obey only one of these two orders - the one that fits best his character. All you're goig to get is a dull horse who will respond with less and less generosity to your legs' orders. Or, if the horse decides to obey your legs, he will have to put up with your hands' traction and will become heavier and heavier on the bit. Or both. If by contrast, you systematically open your fingers as you give an impulsive order with your legs, your horse will feel free, and will be more inclined to obey. This suppresses a major obstacle to impulsion.

Book excerpt: The popular and highly respected horse trainer Mark Rashid brings together Western and Eastern philosophies to demonstrate a seamless new incarnation of horse training. After years of helping “difficult” horses, Mark Rashid understands how to build the foundation of a horse’s training and resolve any problems encountered along the way. He explains how he allows the traditionally firm or assertive approach of the old Western style to take some lessons from the softer conflict resolution and ego reduction approach that the Japanese martial art of aikido teaches. Rashid’s ultimate goal is for harmony between horse and rider.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bible of North American Horsemanship, Horse, Follow Closely is GaWaNi Pony Boy's signature title about the relationship training methods that are steeped in common sense and the age-old wisdom of his Native American ancestors. Of mixed blood Tsa-la-gi, GaWaNi Pony Boy was able to conceive his philosophy and compile the methods of relationship training while touring the United States with a Native American drum band and consulting the Tribal Elders from many different nations and backgrounds. The methods and beliefs of relationship training come directly from the first great horsemen of North America. "Horse and rider are one. Theirs is a relationship of trust, harmony, and respect born of a way of life that is all but lost." The stunning full-color photographs by Gabrielle Boiselle capture Pony Boy's serenity and unity with his close horse companions. The author's simple eloquence forges a deep, profound relationship with his readers that few books ever hope to achieve. As Pony Boy writes in the introduction, "For many [the Native American horseman] represents the ultimate rider. The essence of a horseman, both his skill and intuition, goes beyond the hours he spends in the saddle;.the folklore of every Native tribe are stories, tales, and beliefs to exemplify human's relations to other animals." The book begins with an analysis of how horses came to live with the Natives of North America and horses' impact on Native life. The crux of relationship training, according to the author, is to understand "what it means to be a horse, react like a horse, and relate to other things like a horse;." Native Americans were able to create such strong relationship with horses in a short time because they understood that "a horse is a horse." Learning to balance the relationship between horse and human is the missing link to becoming a masterful horseman or horsewoman. The book describes not only the techniques involved for relationship training but also the belief system and attitude that must be applied to all methods of horsemanship. In addition to presenting the methods and philosophy of relationship training, Horse, Follow Closely also includes many stories and legends of Native Americans and their horses, all of which teach the reader something new about himself and his relationship with his horse.

Nyland and is NOT one of the many century-old public domain translations NOR is it a reworded public domain version. Great advances which have been made in ancient Greek word meaning in the last twenty years were unknown to the translators of the public domains of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Despite the current trend for non-translators to reproduce public domain versions as a commercial venture, be aware that such public domain versions do not take advantage of recent scholarship in word meaning.Xenophon was an ancient Greek soldier who lived from around 430-354 BC. His "Art of Horsemanship" is his work on selecting and educating horses. It was not the first work of its kind, an earlier being that by Simon of Athens. This book also includes excerpts by Aristotle, Columella, Diogenes Laertius, Herodotos, Juvenal, Livy, Pliny the Elder, Simon of Athens, Suetonius, Theomnestus, Virgil, (and two of Xenophon's other works mentioning horsemanship,) which are relevant to Xenophon's The Art of Horsemanship. This is a NEW English translation by Dr A. Nyland.

Book excerpt: To save the world, Brandon Vale's going to steal $250 million Brandon Vale is a career thief---the best there is. Or at least he was before he was thrown in prison for a jewel heist gone bad. And even more embarrassing, he had nothing to do with it. His time inside is going fairly quietly until the night he's broken out against his will by Richard Scanlon, the now-retired FBI agent who framed him in the first place. Scanlon, who still has ties to the United States intelligence community, has discovered that a Ukrainian crime organization is auctioning twelve nuclear warheads to the highest bidder, but he can't convince the government that the sale isn't a hoax. The only way he can get his hands on the $200 million necessary to take the warheads off the market is to do something that goes against everything he stands for: steal it. The choice Brandon is given is simple: help Scanlon and hope to live through it, or turn himself in and face the repercussions of his "escape." Suddenly, Brandon finds himself with only weeks to plan a Las Vegas heist that that he's been dreaming about for years, but has always thought was probably impossible. And to make matters worse, Scanlon insists on choosing his team personally. Led by the relentlessly intelligent and undeniably beautiful Catherine Juarez, not a single one of the former government operatives he picks has so much as shoplifted a pack of gum in their lives. As the day of the heist approaches, Brandon's carefully constructed plans begin to break down and he suspects that the elaborate double-cross he's devised to save himself could cost millions of lives. He finally has to ask himself just how far he's willing to be dragged into a game that he can only lose. With The Second Horseman, the heart-stopping, all-too-real novel, Kyle Mills proves once again that he is one of the freshest and most original thriller writers working today.

Book excerpt: Finally, a comprehensive collection of world-renowned equine expert Linda Tellington-Jones' healing equine bodywork and training exercises, for use both on the ground and in the saddle. In one fabulously illustrated book, those new to Linda's approach are provided with a clear, step-by-step introduction to the Tellington Method, while those familiar with her work finally have the ultimate go-to reference. The book is divided into three parts. Part One briefly explains the background of the Tellington Method and then discusses the reasons for unwanted behavior and poor attitude in horses. Part Two, arranged alphabetically, contains a compendium of 72 common behavioral, training and health issues, many of which horse people face on a daily basis. In this A to Z format, from Aggressive to Other Horses to Weaving, Linda discusses the possible reasons for these behaviors or problems and offers conventional methods of solving these challenges, as well as training solutions using the Tellington Method. Part Three presents—for the first time in one volume—the complete body of work that makes up the Tellington Method: the Tellington TTouches, Ground Exercises, and Ridden Work. At the end of this section, there is also a detailed case study, which includes 49 photographs showing every step along the way to successfully teaching your horse to load.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to form a partnership with your horse, you need to dedicate yourself to learning about the horse. In this text I hope to add to your knowledge of the horse’s physical and mental capabilities and his “natural” responses and physical boundaries. What I intend to do is clear up some of the myths and misconceptions that persist in the world of horsemanship. Oh sure, people have been riding horses for thousands of years – but there are concepts that have sometimes “slipped through the cracks” of equestrian literature. A basic premise is: The more you knowledge you have, the less frustration you will have. Whether you are a weekend rider and want a horse that can take you safely down the trail, or you’re a highly competitive show or event rider, or somewhere in between, I want to help you have a better relationship with your horse.
