Book excerpt: A New York Times Bestseller A Washington Post Notable Nonfiction Book of 2020 Named a Best Book of 2020 by NPR “A fascinating scientific, cultural, spiritual and evolutionary history of the way humans breathe—and how we’ve all been doing it wrong for a long, long time.” —Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Big Magic and Eat Pray Love No matter what you eat, how much you exercise, how skinny or young or wise you are, none of it matters if you’re not breathing properly. There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing: take air in, let it out, repeat twenty-five thousand times a day. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices like Pranayama, Sudarshan Kriya, and Tummo and teams up with pulmonary tinkerers to scientifically test long-held beliefs about how we breathe. Modern research is showing us that making even slight adjustments to the way we inhale and exhale can jump-start athletic performance; rejuvenate internal organs; halt snoring, asthma, and autoimmune disease; and even straighten scoliotic spines. None of this should be possible, and yet it is. Drawing on thousands of years of medical texts and recent cutting-edge studies in pulmonology, psychology, biochemistry, and human physiology, Breath turns the conventional wisdom of what we thought we knew about our most basic biological function on its head. You will never breathe the same again.

Book excerpt: Rise Above is a detailed description of one man's journey of conquering adversity. You will read how the writer survived a near-fatal motor vehicle accident, which resulted in three skull fractures, a bruised brain, an eight-day coma and having to relearn how to walk and talk - made all the more challenging by a lingering speech impediment acquired in childhood. Stuttering is an awful burden for a person to carry throughout life. Children can be cruel. The writer's utmost fear, speaking in public, would one day be an ally and allow him to present programs extensively throughout the United States. This book is not about surviving adversity. It's about thriving beyond adversity. Greg Little, a nationally renowned speaker and motivator, has presented to diverse groups, including health care, business and professional organizations, and educational institutions. His programs emphasize active involvement by participants. Whether teaching professionals to cope with stress, bond as a productive group or realize their hidden strengths, his seminars and keynote addresses are hard hitting and memorable. During one of Greg's presentations, I was laughing so hard that tears were literally streaming down my face. - Dr. Ed Kesgen; Sylva, NC One of the most energized, creative and innovate presentations I have ever experienced.- Jim Brennan, National Consultant; Wilbraham, MA Dr. Greg Little is superb speaker. If you are allowing anger to be behind the wheel, you are headed for a crash! Every experienced driver and passenger of a vehicle knows that the person driving has full control of the vehicle. If you are a reckless driver, the probability of an accident is great! If you are perfectly poised, agile, and alert while driving, not only will your probability of maintaining control be better, but also you will be in a better position to avoid the dangers of nearby reckless drivers. Anger the reckless driver... Anger can be as dangerous as a reckless driver behind the wheel if you allow it to control you. Just like bad driving can lead to awful tragedies that might harm the driver, the passenger, or an innocent bystander, uncontrolled anger can lead to a major collision in your life as well as in others. Being in full control helps you to be alert to your own combustible emotions as well as those of others. In doing so, we avoid crashes, clashes, and serious collisions brought on by anger. Anger the passenger... That is why anger should never be in the driver’s seat. It should only be a passenger. A passenger is driven to a certain destination and then dropped off by the driver, who is in full control of the vehicle. Even when anger is necessary, it should ride only as a passenger going to an appropriate destination and then...let out! Always put yourself in the driver’s seat with full control, while being poised and sober. Carry anger only for a limited amount of time. Then, let it go! This book will give you insight and a unique strategy of recognizing legitimate, illegitimate, and optional anger, as well as understanding their emotion’s vulnerabilities so that you can remain in the driver's seat with full control

Most people have a flawed thinking process that create a distorted reality that is guided by emotional impulses. The only result is the development of an addictive lifestyle and a troubled life. Happiness, peace of mind, purposeful meaning become a fading dream and one then lives a life never lived. However, we are never a victim and can learn to change an unhealthy life to a healthy life, but only if we learn to create an effective thinking process. This workbook describes an unhealthy life caused by a flawed thinking process and then provides the steps for creating an effective thinking process that will result in living a healthy life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to release anger and reconnect to yourself using mindfulness techniques. Anger is one the most common human emotions, so if you’re not feeling it, then you’re probably unconsciously burying it. But anger that is buried isn’t actually gone. In fact, hidden or covert anger may be just as damaging as the overt, outwardly destructive kind, only it wreaks havoc from the inside-out. All sorts of physical and emotional problems can stem from suppressed anger: headaches, digestive problems, insomnia, just to name a few. Buried anger is expressed in a continuum, with rage and aggression at the top, and frustration, annoyance, irritation at the bottom, and everything in between. Unless this anger is addressed, it is impossible to overcome. This book urges readers to practice mindfulness-deliberately allowing physical sensations and emotions to surface so they can be examined and released. This sort of processing of anger-fully felt in the body as it happens, moved out through appropriate expression, and let go-will allow readers to process anger before it becomes unhealthy. Whether for you or your clients, this book offers simple tools of mindfulness to strengthen your connection with your inner world and learn to explore your anger, paying heed to the important messages it is sending.

Book excerpt: Shyness, bullying, and depression can be a sad part of every childs school experience. Each of these problems can be traced back to a single sourcea lack of self-esteem. In my many years of working with children, I have found that the key to helping our kids succeed in life is building up their self-esteem at an early age. In this book are valuable life lessons that have been tried and tested for more than fifteen years by myself and other parents and teachers in their homes and classrooms. The subjects that are taught range from courage to forgiveness. The lessons are fun and uplifting and have profound effects on children and their self-esteem. When children feel they have value, they are happier and do better in school and in life. I taught the lesson for PSE on Joy Thank you so much for such a great lesson. I went to teach it to the kids (at their level) and left the classroom so encouraged and full of joy because I couldnt help but to understand the topic! The kids enjoyed all the activities, and we had such a fun time. Again, thank you so much for all the work you do to put this program together. It doesnt just impact the children; it was an amazing and timely reminder for me today! Cristina Sands, stay-at-home mom PSE is a wonderful program at our school! The valuable lessons and discussion points are age-appropriate and engaging. We appreciate how they are grade specific. Our students, teachers, and volunteers look forward to the activities and relatable topics each month. Marlo Guerra, PTA member and grounds supervisor
