Book excerpt: Regie Hamm's life has all the twists, turns, and drama of a Hollywood movie. Only this isn't Hollywood, and the cast isn't actors. As a hit artist, producer, and songwriter, Regie was familiar with the drama of the press, the endless nights in the studio, and the uncertainty of his next paycheck. But nothing would prepare him for the drama of a rural Chinese hospital, the endless nights of raising an insomniac baby, or the uncertainty of her condition. There was nothing he could do except stand by and helplessly watch his life and career spin out of control. Regie's story is one of a man and his family who overcame enormous obstacles. It is a journey that put him in the company of Angels and Idols—a journey that would test not only his physical resources but also his faith. Join author Regie Hamm as he recounts his rise, his fall, and his ultimate surrender to God's will.

Book Synopsis Apollo's Angels by : Jennifer Homans
Download or read book Apollo's Angels written by Jennifer Homans and published by Random House. This book was released on 2010-11-02 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW, LOS ANGELES TIMES, SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, AND PUBLISHERS WEEKLY For more than four hundred years, the art of ballet has stood at the center of Western civilization. Its traditions serve as a record of our past. Lavishly illustrated and beautifully told, Apollo’s Angels—the first cultural history of ballet ever written—is a groundbreaking work. From ballet’s origins in the Renaissance and the codification of its basic steps and positions under France’s Louis XIV (himself an avid dancer), the art form wound its way through the courts of Europe, from Paris and Milan to Vienna and St. Petersburg. In the twentieth century, émigré dancers taught their art to a generation in the United States and in Western Europe, setting off a new and radical transformation of dance. Jennifer Homans, a historian, critic, and former professional ballerina, wields a knowledge of dance born of dedicated practice. Her admiration and love for the ballet, as Entertainment Weekly notes, brings “a dancer’s grace and sure-footed agility to the page.”

Download or read book Wrestling with Dark Angels written by C. Peter Wagner and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2001-07-25 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Christians, we are in the trenches of a violent war. It is more real than our Western mindset has led us to believe. Since the spirit world - where demons attack us daily - seems to us somehow less real than the tangible, material world in which we live, we think that it's nothing to fear. But this perception is fearfully wrong. The frightening fact is that in trying to deny the reality of the spirit world, we have made ourselves more vulnerable than ever to the attacks of dark angels. In Wrestling with Dark Angels, some of today's most respected theologians offer their views on spiritual warfare and how the Christian can deal effectively with its dangerous powers.
