Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is made up of a collage of many personal stories of the authors life. She shares what life was like living in the small town of Clinton B.C. Then living on her own at the age of sixteen. Some stories are adventurous, others with a teaching undertone, others embarrassingly amusing, and still others so touching that you may need a kleenex. My favorites are the ones which tell of how our Lord intervened in her life. This happened many times in such unique ways. Her goal is to create a desire within the readers heart to have a personal relationship with our Lord. To have it come across that God does speak to us and to be willing to tune in and respond to what He is saying.

As he sought - sometimes rebelliously - to develop habits that would enable him to live more like Jesus, he encountered problems both personal and universal. Gradually he discovered creative new ways to practice disciplines such as fasting, meditation and simplicity, to live as Jesus lived. With a foreword from Nathan's father Richard, who provides a fresh introduction to each of the disciplines, The Making of an Ordinary Saint invites us to be formed into the likeness of Christ's character.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On April 23, 1971, fourteen-year-old Mickel's mother, Roberta (Howe) Millard, was murdered by her estranged husband. It was the culmination of years of violence and abuse. From that day on, for thirty years, Mickel?s life spun out of control as his unresolved anger led to alcoholism, broken marriages, and trouble with the law. Just when all hope was lost and he was in total despair, Mickel surrendered his life to the Lord. 'Murder And God's Redeeming Love' is a true story hitting at the heart of a serious social & economical problem not only here but around the world. I share the story of our mother's tragic death; the abuse her six children would suffer at the hands of their father, yet the most important aspect of this publication is the life application principles that can lead it's readers to a new found hope and healing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a boy in Houston, Bill Sarpalius, his brothers, and their mother lived an itinerant life. Bill dug food out of trashcans, and he and his brothers moved from one school to the next. They squatted in a vacant home while their mother, affectionately called “Honey,” battled alcoholism and suicidal tendencies. In an act of desperation, she handed her three sons over to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch north of Amarillo. At the time, Bill was thirteen years old and could not read. Life at Boys Ranch had its own set of harrowing challenges, however. He found himself living in fear of some staff and older boys. He became involved in Future Farmers of America and discovered a talent for public speaking. When he graduated, he had a hundred dollars and no place to go. He worked hard, earned a scholarship from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and obtained a college degree. After a brief career as a teacher and in agribusiness, he won a seat in the Texas Senate. Driven by the memory of his suffering mother, he launched the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse in an effort to help people struggling with addiction. Sarpalius later served in the United States Congress. As a Lithuanian American, he took a special interest in that nation’s fight for independence from the Soviet Union. For his efforts, Sarpalius received the highest honor possible to a non-Lithuanian citizen and was named a “Grand Duke.” The Grand Duke from Boys Ranch is a unique political memoir—the story of a life full of unlikely paths that is at once heartbreaking and inspirational.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume in a trilogy of prayer manuals compiled by Publishers Weekly religion editor Phyllis Tickle as a contemporary Book of Hours to guide Christians gently yet authoritatively through the daily offices. The Divine Hours is the first major literary and liturgical reworking of the sixth-century Benedictine Rule of fixed-hour prayer. This beautifully conceived and thoroughly modern three-volume guide will appeal to the theological novice as well as to the ecclesiastical sophisticate. Making primary use of the Book of Common Prayer and the writings of the Church Fathers, The Divine Hours is also a companion to the New Jerusalem Bible, from which it draws its Scripture readings. The trilogy blends prayer and praise in a way that, while extraordinarily fresh, respects and builds upon the ancient wisdom of Christianity. The first book in the set, Prayers for Summertime, filled with prayers, psalms, and readings, is one readers will turn to again and again. Compact in size, it is perfect for those seeking greater spiritual depth. As a contemporary Book of Hours, The Divine Hours: Prayers for Summertime heralds a renewal of the tradition of disciplined daily prayer, and will whet the hunger of a large and eager audience for the follow-up autumn/winter and spring volumes.

Book excerpt: AND HE WALKS WITH ME is a project that God put on my heart in 2009. Since then I have worked on stories, reviewed many pictures, and painted a picture for the front cover. This is a labor of love so that my family and friends can know more fully why I am so devoted to our Lord, Jesus Christ. The title is derived from one of my favorite old hymns that I learned in church as a brand new Christian. It has a chorus that says "And He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am his own." The front cover is derived from a vivid dream I had in June of 2010 where I saw myself as a little girl walking hand in hand with Jesus towards a bright and glowing horizon. I drew a sketch of it the very next day and then tried to find someone to paint it for me. My son, Mike Jr., told me that I should paint it myself. I responded that he had way too much confidence in my ability. However, his words stayed with me and I worked up the courage to try to paint it myself in March of 2011. You see, I haven't painted since the 1970's and I was very unsure of my artistic abilities after such a long period of time. I was able to paint what I saw in my dream and my publisher put it on the front cover for me. All because my son had faith in me and encouraged me to try, and also because, I prayed that God would help me, and He did! May you find hope and encouragement as you read my stories, because if God did it for me He can do it for you. The Bible says that God is no respecter of persons and that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Love, Vivi Anderson
