Book excerpt: Access to Effortless Qigong: Unveiling the Secrets of Waidan, the External Elixir Unlock the Secrets of Waidan: The External Elixir Discover the remarkable practice of Waidan, the External Elixir, which stands in contrast to Neidan, the Internal Elixir. Waidan means literally “External Elixir”. This is the opposite of Neidan, which literally means “Internal Elixir”. “Nei” means internal. Neigong is a type of Neidan. Neigong or Internal Kung Fu, as I’ve talked about in many of my books, is the practice to transform your body with Jing, Qi (Bioenergy), and Shen (Spirit or Consciousness). “Wai” means external. While Neidan focuses on internal transformation, Waidan harnesses the power of refined external substances to revolutionize your body. By incorporating minerals, ores, and herbs, you can embark on a journey of profound physical and spiritual evolution. Safely Embrace the Ancient Tradition While the debate around its effectiveness and potential dangers continues, there's no denying the noble intentions behind Taoist Alchemy. We won't delve into the intricacies of Taoist Alchemy, but it's essential to recognize the underlying good intentions of this age-old practice. Even in our modern era, the pursuit of optimal health has led people to explore an array of supplements and medications, often yielding questionable results Uncover the Secrets Lost to Time Much of the wisdom surrounding Waidan has been lost throughout the ages. Without revisiting the past experiments, we can't distinguish what truly worked from what didn't. Given the perilous nature of historical records, repeating those dangerous trials is not advisable. However, fear not! We possess a wealth of knowledge through the extraordinary practices of Neigong, or Internal Kung Fu, which have been proven to transform our bodies, minds, and souls. Nevertheless, there is always room for additional assistance. Discover a New Path to Transformation Fortunately, there exist safe methods within the realm of Waidan. In this groundbreaking book, I will unveil a modern approach that guarantees a substantial influx of Qi, the vital life force energy, into your being. With this "Modern Safe External Elixir of Life," you can tap into the extraordinary power of Qi while ensuring your well-being remains a top priority. Unleash Your Full Potential Prepare to embark on an extraordinary journey of self-discovery and transformation. Learn how to harness the immense power of the Modern Safe External Elixir of Life and witness the remarkable benefits unfold in your body, mind, and spirit. Empower yourself with the tool to unlock your full potential and live a life filled with vitality and profound well-being.

It includes descriptions of a small frame approach to the practice that will help all practitioners of Taiji Chuan dig deeper into the capabilities their specific art offers. It includes Alchemical Three Treasures Qi-gong, a new approach to cleaning up our bodies and eliminating harmful chemicals we are subject to on a daily basis.Guang Ping Yang Taiji Chuan is little understood outside the small number of practitioners trained in this approach to Taiji Chuan. It was developed early in the Yang family teachings and was passed on through Yang Ban-hou. The book includes the basic medical stretching taught by Master Y.C. Chiang, Taiji set and standing meditation. This book covers the mid-frame and small frame approaches to the practice with emphasis on the development of tendons and the use of breath in the small frame practice. Usually, a small frame approach to Taiji Chuan is not included in most schools that teach the art. Without understanding how Taiji Chuan is used most students are not able to appreciate the finer details that come with systematically practicing a small frameset. Push hands alone is not enough to learn such concepts. The book also includes Alchemical Three Treasures Qi-gong that puts emphasis on the endocrine and lymphatic systems of the body. The endocrine system produces, regulates and distributes chemicals the body needs to counter undesirable and unhealthy chemicals from outside ourselves. The lymphatic system cleans up the toxins for elimination. This is the 1st Edition and includes pictures, links to videos on each activity covered and material on the inner alchemy traditions embedded in these arts.

Book excerpt: This book is the pathway to search for Qi, through breathing and exercise, using the energy channels of the Small Celestial Circuit, activating the internal movement of the tiger (Yin, the female energy) and the dragon (Yang, the male energy) to establish the body's psychophysical equilibrium. Through Nei Dan, a journey of knowledge and understanding of the Taoist Inner Alchemy and the relationship between Hathayoga and Tàijíquán."I was already a yoga teacher when I started to be interested in Taoist psychophysical techniques in the middle of the 1980's. In 1990, in both Hong Kong and in the Chinatown of Singapore, I had taken lessons of Qi Gong and Tàijíquán. These lessons caused me to have doubts and perplexities on the level of teaching that I had found in the West.I had the impression that in the form (Tao Lu) and in the techniques that we study in the West there was something missing. There was always a lot of talk about Qi, the inner energy and about extra sensorial perceptions linked to the flow of this Qi, but nobody seemed able to help you to feel it. "Ok, so what is this Qi? How can I perceive it?" The majority of Italian instructors that I have known replied with the seraphic smile of Buddha "You'll see... You need time... When you're ready you'll feel the power of Qi... And then you won't need to ask any more questions."When I was in Hong Kong I asked an old Chinese man to teach me some Qi Gong exercises. The first thing he did was to point the index and middle finger of his right hand at about twenty centimetres from the centre of my forehead. I felt a light electric current and then a light pressure, pleasant and intermittent. It seemed that the space between his fingers and my forehead had became dense and he was managing to command it with his will: it was Qi."

Book excerpt: The first book to examine and extract the workable teachings from the The Secret of the Golden Flower. Forget dogma and belief systems… This is DIY meditation method, especially for those individuals tempted to brave the solitary path. It’s only limits are your ability to envision and strive for a new YOU. Since the publication of Deciphering the Golden Flower One Secret at a Time (ASIN: B001A9TN7Q) in 2008 (DGF), readers have asked for an in-depth guidebook on using The Secret of the Golden Flower (SGF) to awaken kundalini in a manner, and with results, similar to those described in JJ Semple's DGF. The Secret of the Golden Flower: A Kundalini Meditation Method is that book, a much anticipated interpretive guide to the SGF as well as a sequel to his DGF autobiographical kundalini memoir. Kundalini is the formative, biological life force energy in your body. Most people don't realize that kundalini resides within them; they are simply unaware of its actuality and its potential. Which means, of course, that it may never "re-activate" either spontaneously or otherwise, not unless you learn how to induce a Kundalini awakening through meditation practice. Even then, the outcome is never certain. There's a quantum or karmic aspect to the process. Wilhelm, Cleary, and Jung translated the book and commented on its teachings, but not one of them ever practiced the method. This book compares their translations and commentaries with JJ Semple's empirical practice of the method, using his ultimate success in awakening kundalini as the arbiter of its suitability as a method — in essence, the author identifies where the written word deviates from actual practice. He extracts the workable teachings from the esoteric text of the SGF and shapes them into a practical modern method. By cross-referencing both the Cleary and the Wilhelm versions, the author details each version's contribution to the kundalini awakening process. A chapter comparing Golden Flower Meditation (GFM) to the Microcosmic Orbit (MCO) is also included. Says JJ Semple, “Did I take every word and every passage in the Wilhelm version literally? No more than I take every word or passage in the Bible, or in Cleary’s translation, literally. I realized that a successful practice depended on problem solving and detective work, that searching for literal meaning was a waste of time. Success would be found in doing, not in fantasizing.” In fact, the SGF has two objectives. One, it's a manual for kundalini meditation, even though the term "kundalini" never appears in the text. Put aside what you may have been told or read about the SGF and accept this as fact — one borne out by centuries of realized practitioners who practiced the method, a fact vetted by contemporaries such as Gopi Krishna. Two, it's an explanation of ontology, which the dictionary defines as: “the branch of metaphysics dealing with the nature of being.” Neither objective is readily understood without practicing the method. Sure, it’s possible to approach the text as an academic challenge, but the best way to reconcile the two objectives is by practicing the method, which, if you are patient, allows you to “grok” the ontological elements as you move forward. The two are not separated in the text; they’re mingled together, which, as you might imagine, makes understanding problematic. Says JJ Semple, “Although the ontological portions obscured the practical aspects to some degree, I decided to forge ahead. Ultimately, once the meditation took its course, once the light started to circulate, I was catapulted out of the limiting duality of the physical world into the metaphysical actuality of ‘the great One...which has nothing above it.’" In short, he learned that enlightenment comes with practice.

Book excerpt: Stephen Eskildsen's book offers an in-depth study of the beliefs and practices of the Quanzhen (Complete Realization) School of Taoism, the predominant school of monastic Taoism in China. The Quanzhen School was founded in the latter half of the twelfth century by the eccentric holy man Wan Zhe (1113–1170), whose work was continued by his famous disciples commonly known as the Seven Realized Ones. This study draws upon surviving texts to examine the Quanzhen masters' approaches to mental discipline, intense asceticism, cultivation of health and longevity, mystical experience, supernormal powers, death and dying, charity and evangelism, and ritual. From these primary sources, Eskildsen provides a clear understanding of the nature of Quanzhen Taoism and reveals its core emphasis to be the cultivation of clarity and purity of mind that occurs not only through seated meditation, but also throughout the daily activities of life.

Written in the eleventh century, it describes in a poetical form, and in a typically cryptic and allusive language, several facets of Neidan, or internal alchemy. The present book presents the first part of the text, consisting of sixteen poems, which contain a concise but comprehensive exposition of Neidan. In addition to notes that intend to clarify the meaning of the more obscure points, the book also contains selections from a commentary dating from the late eighteenth century, which is distinguished by the use of a lucid and plain language. ⿿ Fabrizio Pregadio has taught at the University of Venice (1996-97), the Technical University of Berlin (1998-2001), and Stanford University (2001-08). He is the author of Great Clarity: Daoism and Alchemy in Early Medieval China (Stanford University Press, 2006) and the editor of The Encyclopedia of Taoism (Routledge, 2008).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book codifies, describes, and contextualizes group rituals and individual practices from world religious traditions. At the interface of religious studies, psychology, and medicine, it elucidates the cultural richness of practices and rituals from numerous world religions. The book begins by discussing the role that religious rituals and practices may play in the well-being of humans and the multi-dimensional cultural and psychological complexity of religious rituals and practices. It then discusses rituals and practices within a number of religions, including Christian, Islamic, Jewish, Buddhist, Taoist, Sikh, Hindu, Confucian, and other traditions. There is a need for a more inclusive collection of religious rituals and practices, as some practices are making headlines in contemporary society. Mindfulness is one of the fastest-growing psychological interventions in healthcare and Yoga is now practiced by tens of millions of people in the U.S.A. These practices have been examined in thousands of academic publications spanning neuroscience, psychology, medicine, sociology, and religious studies. While Mindfulness and Yoga have recently received widespread scientific and cultural attention, many rituals and practices from world religious traditions have remained underexplored in scholarly, scientific, and clinical contexts. This book brings more diverse rituals and practices into this academic discourse while providing a reference guide for clinicians and students of the topic.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The I Ching , or "Book of Change," is considered the oldest of the Chinese classics and has throughout history commanded unsurpassed prestige and popularity. Containing several layers of text and given numerous levels of interpretation, it has captured continuous attention for well over two thousand years. It has been considered a book of fundamental principles by philosophers, politicians, mystics, alchemists, yogins, diviners, sorcerers, and more recently by scientists and mathematicians. This first part of the present volume is the text of the I Ching proper—the sixty-four hexagrams plus sayings on the hexagrams and their lines—with the commentary composed by Liu I-ming, a Taoist adept, in 1796. The second part is Liu I-ming's commentary on the two sections added to the I Ching by earlier commentators, believed to be members of the original Confucian school; these two sections are known as the Overall Images and the Mixed Hexagrams. In total, the book illuminates the Taoist inner teachings as practiced in the School of Complete Reality. Well versed in Buddhism and Confucianism as well as Taoism, Liu I-ming intended his work to be read as a guide to comprehensive self-realization while living an ordinary life in the world. In his attempt to lift the veil of mystery from the esoteric language of the I Ching , he employs the terminology of psychology, sociology, history, myth, and religion. This commentary on the I Ching stands as a major contribution to the elucidation of Chinese spiritual genius.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “My sincere hope is that everyone will read this treasure trove of essential inner knowledge. This book is a magnificent accomplishment." -- Caroline Myss, author of Anatomy of the Spirit Alchemy is the science of transformation—how to change one thing into something else. In The Alchemy of Inner Work, Dechar and Fox examine how illness, suffering, and dis-ease—the “lead” of our lives—can become the “gold” of our authentic selves, and the key to good health and well-being. Drawing on traditional Chinese medicine, Eastern and Western alchemical traditions, Kabbalah, and Jungian psychology—plus case studies from working with patients—the authors provide hands-on insights for bringing “the soul of medicine” back into our lives. The book includes: A simple introduction to the ancient practices and principles alchemy How the alchemical model offers a profoundly new path to true health and well-being An array of practices for removing the barriers that block our own healing energy An invitation to alchemical “dream work” as a support on the path of healing
