Book Synopsis Anatomy of Seismograms by : O. Kulhánek
Download or read book Anatomy of Seismograms written by O. Kulhánek and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frequent updating of existing interpretation codes and routines is a prerequisite for modern seismogram interpretation and research. The primary goal of this book is to present in a rather tutorial form all the necessary information and techniques pertinent to essential seismogram interpretation. The treatment is descriptive rather then mathematical, and emphasis is placed on practical aspects, especially for the benefit of students and junior seismogram interpreters affiliated to seismographic stations and observatories. Those workers more knowledgeable in seismology, and curious enough in the detailed deciphering of seismogram peculiarities, will also find the presentation useful. The book is divided into two parts: a verbal description (Chapters 1-6) and a collection of 55 plates (Chapter 7) with interpretations. The verbal description explains in a rather elementary form the most fundamental physical phenomena relevant to seismogram appearance. The collection of plates exhibits a large variety of seismogram examples, and the corresponding interpretations cover different seismic sources (tectonic and volcanic earthquakes, underground explosions, cavity collapse, sonic booms), wave types, epicentral distances, focal depths and recording instruments (analog, digital, short- and long-period, broad band). The book compliments older manuals in that both analog and digital records are considered. Seismograms from more traditional narrow-band as well as from modern, broad-band instruments are displayed. Tectonic and volcanic earthquakes are represented, and the exhibited seismograms form a worldwide collection of records acquired from seismographic stations located in North and Central America, Asia, Europe and New Zealand, i.e. in various geological and tectonic environments. Terminology and usage of definition does vary among agencies in different parts of the world; that used in this book is common to Europe.

Download or read book Anatomy of Gaia written by Hillel Flesch and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2019-04-16 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anatomy of Gaia presents revelations of analogies between human beings and planet Earth. The topic is the multifaceted common blueprint of human existence and the Earth. The book, divided into 7 chapters that dovetail with one another, abounds with scientific evidence of analogies between- human anatomy and geomorphology;- the history of Western civilization and the human digestive system;- types of bone cells and classes of rocks;- human embryonic development and the formation of Earth and- the ensuing Continental Fusion Hypothesis;- analogies between the cell and the Earth - analogies between the Central Nervous System and Political map of the world. The above similarities are also viewed in the light of the Old Testament and its archetypes and stories that offer additional insights and parallels. In this one-of-a-kind book, astonishing parallels between man and the Earth are revealed and substantiated for the first time. If carefully read, it will revolutionize the way you experience yourself and the Earth, as you will realize the truth and depth of the claim: Earth and Man are embedded in each other in their physical and morphological features, their systems and the way they evolved.

Book Synopsis Earth Materials and Health by : National Research Council
Download or read book Earth Materials and Health written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-05-09 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A range of natural earth materials, like arsenic or fluoride, have long been linked to significant human health effects. Improved understanding of the pervasive and complex interactions between earth materials and human health will require creative collaborations between earth scientists and public health professionals. At the request of the National Science Foundation, U.S. Geological Survey, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration, this National Research Council book assesses the current state of knowledge at the interface between the earth sciences and public health disciplines. The book identifies high-priority areas for collaborative research, including understanding the transport and bioavailability of potentially hazardous earth materials, using risk-based scenarios to mitigate the public health effects of natural hazards under current and future climate regimes, and understanding the health risks that result from disturbance of earth systems. Geospatial information - geological maps for earth scientists and epidemiological data for public health professionals - is identified as one of the essential integrative tools that is fundamental to the activities of both communities. The book also calls for increased data sharing between agencies to promote interdisciplinary research without compromising privacy.
Download or read book Origins written by Lewis Dartnell and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2019-05-14 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times-bestselling author explains how the physical world shaped the history of our species When we talk about human history, we often focus on great leaders, population forces, and decisive wars. But how has the earth itself determined our destiny? Our planet wobbles, driving changes in climate that forced the transition from nomadism to farming. Mountainous terrain led to the development of democracy in Greece. Atmospheric circulation patterns later on shaped the progression of global exploration, colonization, and trade. Even today, voting behavior in the south-east United States ultimately follows the underlying pattern of 75 million-year-old sediments from an ancient sea. Everywhere is the deep imprint of the planetary on the human. From the cultivation of the first crops to the founding of modern states, Origins reveals the breathtaking impact of the earth beneath our feet on the shape of our human civilizations.
