Book excerpt: The historical books of the New Testament, such as the Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles, provide us with several lessons on labor education. Here are some key lessons that can be drawn from these texts: 1. value of work: the historical books of the New Testament emphasize the importance of work and stress that it is an essential part of life. Jesus himself was a carpenter, which shows that work is worthy and valuable regardless of its nature. 2. Humility in work: The historical books also teach the importance of humility in work. Jesus, despite being considered the Son of God, did not hesitate to carry out humble and helpful work, such as washing the feet of his disciples. This teaches us that we should not look down on any work and that humility is essential in our work attitude. 3. Integrity and honesty: The historical books of the New Testament teach us the importance of integrity and honesty in our work. The early Christians, like the apostles, were faithful to their mission and worked with honesty and dedication, even in difficult or adverse circumstances. This reminds us to be of integrity and honesty in all our work tasks and responsibilities. 4. Care and respect for others: The historical books also teach us to have care and respect for others in our work. Jesus emphasized the importance of loving and helping others, and the early Christians showed this attitude by working collaboratively and helping each other. This reminds us of the importance of building respectful, kind and caring relationships in the work environment.

The importance of teaching: The apostles played a fundamental role as teachers in the early church. Through their teaching and preaching, they helped to spread the message of Jesus and to train new believers. 2. The power of the Holy Spirit: The work of the Holy Spirit is evident in the book of Acts, guiding and enabling the apostles to preach with courage and wisdom. This teaches us that knowledge and education must go hand in hand with influence and leadership. 3. The importance of community: In the book of Acts, we see that the disciples gathered and shared together. This demonstrates the importance of community in learning and education. Through fellowship and interaction, we can learn and grow. 4. Openness to new perspectives: The book of Acts recounts how the apostles were challenged to abandon their prejudices and open themselves to new groups and cultures. This teaches us the importance of open-mindedness and willingness to learn from others, even in spite of our differences. 5. Perseverance in teaching and learning: Despite challenges and difficulties, the apostles demonstrated great perseverance in their mission to educate and train others. We learn that education is not an easy or instantaneous process, but requires continuous effort and commitment.

Book excerpt: Five Pivotal Texts presents a semiotic analysis of the Four Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles. The analysis is reproduced in a range of ways on the web site www.realitysearch.com.au and the sites that are attached to this, e.g. www.realityworkshops.org and www.realityroups.org etc. The book is being made available in printed form on Amazon so that people visiting the Reality Search sites can obtain a hard and bound copy of the material. The text of Five Pivotal Texts consists of a paraphrase of a translation from the Greek that was made by Alan Marshall in The R.S.V. Interlinear Greek-English New Testament (1968). This paraphrase includes some reference to the original Greek as well. Actually Marshall's translation of the New Testament heralded a new era for the Catholic Church. Prior to this, rather than using a translation from the Greek, the Church relied on a Latin translation made by St Jerome in the C5th CE. Five Pivotal Texts includes some comments about the analysis that was made by the present author. The gospel structures, shown up by the analysis, revealed an "underbelly" of the way in which these texts were designed The gospel writers were using their own "grammar" to construct them. Thus Mark set out a basic, overview construction. Then Matthew and Luke used and adjusted Mark's "grammar" according to their own interests and approach. Later on John used the methods set out by the previous three.

Book excerpt: In Scripting Jesus, Michael White, famed scholar of early Christian history, reveals how the gospel stories of Jesus were never meant to be straightforward historical accounts, but rather were scripted and honed as performance pieces for four different audiences with four different theological agendas. As he did as a featured presenter in two award-winning PBS Frontline documentaries (“From Jesus to Christ” and “Apocalypse!”), White engagingly explains the significance of some lesser-known aspects of The New Testament; in this case, the development of the stories of Jesus—including how the gospel writers differed from one another on facts, points of view, and goals. Readers of Elaine Pagels, Marcus Borg, John Dominic Crossan, and Bart Ehrman will find much to ponder in Scripting Jesus.
