Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the integrated approach of analysis and optimal design of structures. This approach, which is more convenient than the so-called nested approach, has the difficulty of generating a large optimization problem. To overcome this problem a methodology of decomposition by multilevel is developed. This technique, which is also suitable for implementation on parallel processing computers, has the advantage of reducing the size of the optimization problem generated. The geometric programming for both equality and inequality constraints is used in the optimization.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of structural optimization is still a relatively new field undergoing rapid changes in methods and focus. Until recently there was a severe imbalance between the enormous amount of literature on the subject, and the paucity of applications to practical design problems. This imbalance is being gradually redressed. There is still no shortage of new publications, but there are also exciting applications of the methods of structural optimizations in the automotive, aerospace, civil engineering, machine design and other engineering fields. As a result of the growing pace of applications, research into structural optimization methods is increasingly driven by real-life problems. t-.Jost engineers who design structures employ complex general-purpose software packages for structural analysis. Often they do not have any access to the source program, and even more frequently they have only scant knowledge of the details of the structural analysis algorithms used in this software packages. Therefore the major challenge faced by researchers in structural optimization is to develop methods that are suitable for use with such software packages. Another major challenge is the high computational cost associated with the analysis of many complex real-life problems. In many cases the engineer who has the task of designing a structure cannot afford to analyze it more than a handful of times.

Book Synopsis Non-Linear Structures by : K. I. Majid
Download or read book Non-Linear Structures written by K. I. Majid and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-Linear Structures: Matrix Methods of Analysis and Design by Computers presents the use of matrix methods of structural analysis suitable for computers. The book consists of 10 chapters. In the first chapter a brief introduction to the behavior of structures in general is given with reference to the linear elastic and simple plastic methods of structural analysis. Chapter 2 is devoted to linear matrix methods, both force and displacement. Chapter 3 examines the stability of an individual member with various end conditions. It also derives the stability functions used in Matrix force and Matrix displacement methods. Chapter 4 tackles the elastic stability of complete frames. Chapter 5 deals with the elastic instability of frames. The sixth chapter covers the elastic-plastic analysis of frames. This is followed in Chapter 7 by a number of approximate methods for the evaluation of the failure load of frames without following the sequence of hinge formation. The last three chapters are devoted to the design of structures and the non-linear aspects of design problems. A description of non-linear programming by piecewise linearization is included in Chapter 10. Structural engineers, architects, researchers, and engineering students will find the book useful.

Book Synopsis Structural Optimization by : Uri Kirsch
Download or read book Structural Optimization written by Uri Kirsch and published by Springer. This book was released on 1993 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book introduces the fundamental concepts and practical applications of modern structural optimization. It presents, in a unified approach, recent developments in the area. The text addresses both the student and the practising structural engineer. The book discusses in detail alternative problem formulations, the relative merits of different optimization methods and various considerations related to structural design. The emphasis throughout is on approximation concepts, which are essential for the solution of many practical design problems. It demonstrates how various formulations, methods and approximations are integrated to achieve effective design procedures. The advantages as well as the limitations of the different approaches are discussed and illustrated by numerous examples."--Back cover.

Book Synopsis Optimal Analysis of Structures by Concepts of Symmetry and Regularity by : Ali Kaveh
Download or read book Optimal Analysis of Structures by Concepts of Symmetry and Regularity written by Ali Kaveh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-05-16 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal analysis is defined as an analysis that creates and uses sparse, well-structured and well-conditioned matrices. The focus is on efficient methods for eigensolution of matrices involved in static, dynamic and stability analyses of symmetric and regular structures, or those general structures containing such components. Powerful tools are also developed for configuration processing, which is an important issue in the analysis and design of space structures and finite element models. Different mathematical concepts are combined to make the optimal analysis of structures feasible. Canonical forms from matrix algebra, product graphs from graph theory and symmetry groups from group theory are some of the concepts involved in the variety of efficient methods and algorithms presented. The algorithms elucidated in this book enable analysts to handle large-scale structural systems by lowering their computational cost, thus fulfilling the requirement for faster analysis and design of future complex systems. The value of the presented methods becomes all the more evident in cases where the analysis needs to be repeated hundreds or even thousands of times, as for the optimal design of structures by different metaheuristic algorithms. The book is of interest to anyone engaged in computer-aided analysis and design and software developers in this field. Though the methods are demonstrated mainly through skeletal structures, continuum models have also been added to show the generality of the methods. The concepts presented are not only applicable to different types of structures but can also be used for the analysis of other systems such as hydraulic and electrical networks.
