Book Synopsis Analog-digital Computers for Real-time Simulation by : M. E. Connelly
Download or read book Analog-digital Computers for Real-time Simulation written by M. E. Connelly and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relative advantages of analog and digital computational techniques as applied to he problem of real-tim aircraft simulation are discussed. T HE HYPOTHESIS IS PRESENT D THAT A BASIC DIGITAL COMPUTER IS FEASIBLE TODAY THAT WOULD COMPETE WITH ANALOG TECHNIQUES ON BOTH COST AND ABILITY TO SIMULATE NATURAL AIRCRAFT FREQUENCIES IN REAL TIME. It is possible that the digital or hybrid computer will supplant the analog computer in those problem classes requiring more than 100 amplifiers. The concept of high-spe time-shared analog computing elements opera ing under the control of a digital computer is introduced. A family of such elements is described as well as various system design studies and experimental demonstration systems. The design of an analog-digital computer utilizing the pulsed-analog concept is outlined. The advantages and disadvantages of floating-point arithmetic are discussed. Illustrative programs are presented for function generation, trigonometric resolution, and the solution of a typical aerodynamic equation. It is concluded that the use of peripheral pulsed-analog equipment would increase the effectiv computing speed of a given digital computer on simulation problems by a factor of two or more. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes a library of automated diagnostic test-programs for the real-time input/output section of a digital training simulation research system. The application of such automated test to simulation-system acceptance testing is explored. Included is a description of real-time simulation as a training technique and the Real-Time Simulation Research Systems (RTSRS) for which the test-programs were prepared. Detailed program listings, flow charts, and abstracts of each test and of utility subroutines are also provided.

Download or read book UKSC 84 written by D.J. Murray-Smith and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UKSC 84 contains the proceedings of the 1984 United Kingdom Simulation Council Conference on Computer Simulation held at the University of Bath, England. The papers describe computer simulation techniques and their applications and cover topics ranging from simulation methodology and software to the various applications of computer simulation in areas such as policy decision-making and planning, biology and medicine, and education. This book is comprised of 52 chapters divided into nine sections and begins by describing an advanced continuous-system simulation language called ESL (ESA Simulation Language), an initiative of the European Space Agency. The papers that follow explore other simulation software, such as MANIP, SYSMOD, COSMOS, Ada, SDL (Simulation Development Language), and SPIRO (Suite of Programs for the Investigation of Recondite Objects). The discussion then turns to a methodology based on artificial intelligence for the design and development of large-scale computer simulations; a formalism for specifying continuous or fixed time-step simulation models that is a straightforward extension of the block-oriented languages, with emphasis on superblocks and tesselations; and simulation of manufacturing and control systems. This book concludes with a chapter that describes a highly efficient compactor for a radar digital database. This monograph will be of interest to students and professionals working in the field of computer simulation.

Book Synopsis The Analogue Alternative by : James S. Small
Download or read book The Analogue Alternative written by James S. Small and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are in the midst of a digital revolution - until recently, the majority of appliances used in everyday life have been developed with analogue technology. Now, either at home or out and about, we are surrounded by digital technology such as digital 'film', audio systems, computers and telephones. From the late 1940s until the 1970s, analogue technology was a genuine alternative to digital, and the two competing technologies ran parallel with each other. During this period, a community of engineers, scientists, academics and businessmen continued to develop and promote the analogue computer. At the height of the Cold War, this community and its technology met with considerable success in meeting the urgent demand for high speed computing for use in the design and simulation of rockets, aircraft and manned space vehicles. The Analogue Alternative tracks the development, commercialisation and ultimate decline of the electronic analogue computer in the USA and Britain. It examines the roles played by technical, economic and cultural factors in the competition between the alternative technologies, but more importantly, James Small demonstrates that non-technical factors, such as the role of 'military enterprise' and the working practices of analogue engineers, have been the most crucial in analogue's demise.^l This book will be of interest to students of the history and sociology of science and technology, particularly computing. It will also be relevant to those interested in technical change and innovation, and the study of scientific cultures.
