Book Synopsis New Estimates of Value of Land of the United States by : Bureau of Economics Analysis
Download or read book New Estimates of Value of Land of the United States written by Bureau of Economics Analysis and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-04-14 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Land is an important and valuable natural resource, serving both as a store of wealth and as an input in production. Previous attempts to measure the value of land of the United States have focused on indirect measures, inferring values based on the difference between the market value of real property and the replacement value of structures, and have not counted the entirety of the land area of the United States. Instead, this paper takes hedonic estimates of land prices in various locations and interpolates these values to a mosaic of parcels, census tracts, and counties of various sizes in the contiguous (lower 48) United States plus the District of Columbia. Estimates suggest that this 1.89 billion acres of land are collectively worth approximately $23 trillion in 2009 (current prices), with 24% of the land area and $1.8 trillion of the value held by the federal government.

Book Synopsis The Nature of Space by : Milton Santos
Download or read book The Nature of Space written by Milton Santos and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2021-07-21 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Nature of Space, pioneering Afro-Brazilian geographer Milton Santos attends to globalization writ large and how local and global orders intersect in the construction of space. Santos offers a theory of human space based on relationships between time and ontology. He argues that when geographers consider the inseparability of time and space, they can then transcend fragmented realities and partial truths without trying to theorize their way around them. Based on these premises, Santos examines the role of space, which he defines as indissoluble systems of objects and systems of actions in social processes, while providing a geographic contribution to the production of a critical social theory.

Download or read book Metromarxism written by Andrew Merrifield and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Metromarxism" discusses Marxism's relationship with the city from the 1850s to the present by way of biographical chapters on figures from the Marxist tradition, including Marx, Walter Benjamin, Guy Debord, and David Harvey. Each chapter combines interesting biographical anecdotes with an accessible analysis of each individual's contribution to an always-transforming Marxist theory of the city. He suggests that the interplay between the city as center of economic and social life and its potential for progressive change generated a major corpus of work. That work has been key in advancing progressive political and social transformations.
Book Synopsis The Legal Framework of the OSCE by : Mateja Steinbrück Platise
Download or read book The Legal Framework of the OSCE written by Mateja Steinbrück Platise and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-30 with total page 719 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the world's largest regional security organisation, possesses most of the attributes traditionally ascribed to an international organisation, but lacks a constitutive treaty and an established international legal personality. Moreover, OSCE decisions are considered mere political commitments and thus not legally binding. As such, it seems to correspond to the general zeitgeist, in which new, less formal actors and forms of international cooperation gain prominence, while traditional actors and instruments of international law are in stagnation. However, an increasing number of voices - including the OSCE participating states - have been advocating for more formal and autonomous OSCE institutional structures, for international legal personality, or even for the adoption of a constitutive treaty. The book analyses why and how these demands have emerged, critically analyses the reform proposals and provides new arguments for revisiting the OSCE legal framework.
