Book Synopsis The Management of Intellectual Property by : D. Bosworth
Download or read book The Management of Intellectual Property written by D. Bosworth and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will be a useful resource for those studying or teaching the management of IP. . . a welcome addition on the reading list for all good IP management courses. Duncan Bucknell, Journal of Intellectual Property Law and Practice This book brings together innovative contributions on the management of intellectual property (IP) and intellectual property rights by an esteemed and multi-disciplinary group of economists, management scientists, accountants and lawyers. Offering a broad and enlightening picture of the measurement and management of IP, the contributors argue that the shift towards a knowledge-based economy has increased the importance of IP and more generally, intangible assets, as a focus for company decision-making behaviour. The book explores these intangible assets, which are driven by investments in R&D, marketing, education and training, management information systems and organizational structure. The inherent risk in the development of such assets born from the involvement of creativity and innovation is also discussed. The Management of Intellectual Property should prove of use to both students of management and managers in the field who have to make decisions with regard to investments in, and the protection of, IP and other intangible assets.

Book Synopsis Network Flows and Monotropic Optimization by : R. Tyrell Rockafellar
Download or read book Network Flows and Monotropic Optimization written by R. Tyrell Rockafellar and published by Athena Scientific. This book was released on 1999-06-01 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rigorous and comprehensive treatment of network flow theory and monotropic optimization by one of the world's most renowned applied mathematicians. This classic textbook covers extensively the duality theory and the algorithms of linear and nonlinear network optimization optimization, and their significant extensions to monotropic programming (separable convex constrained optimization problems, including linear programs). It complements our other book on the subject of network optimization Network Optimization: Continuous and Discrete Models (Athena Scientific, 1998). Monotropic programming problems are characterized by a rich interplay between combinatorial structure and convexity properties. Rockafellar develops, for the first time, algorithms and a remarkably complete duality theory for these problems. Among its special features the book: (a) Treats in-depth the duality theory for linear and nonlinear network optimization (b) Uses a rigorous step-by-step approach to develop the principal network optimization algorithms (c) Covers the main algorithms for specialized network problems, such as max-flow, feasibility, assignment, and shortest path (d) Develops in detail the theory of monotropic programming, based on the author's highly acclaimed research (e) Contains many examples, illustrations, and exercises (f) Contains much new material not found in any other textbook

Book Synopsis Algorithms and Model Formulations in Mathematical Programming by : Stein W. Wallace
Download or read book Algorithms and Model Formulations in Mathematical Programming written by Stein W. Wallace and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) "Algorithms and Model Formulations in Mathematical Programming" was held at Chr. Michelsen Institute in Bergen, Norway, from June 15 to June 19, 1987. The ARW was organized on behalf of the Committee on Algorithms (COAL) of the Mathematical Programming Society (MPS). Co-directors were Jan Telgen (Van Dien+Co Organisatie, Utrecht, The Netherlands) and Roger J-B Wets (The University of California at Davis, USA). 43 participants from 11 countries attended the ARW. The workshop was organized such that each day started with a - minute keynote presentation, followed by a 45-minute plenary discussion. The first part of this book contains the contributions of the five keynote speakers. The plenary discussions were taped, and the transcripts given to the keynote speakers. They have treated the transcripts differently, some by working the discussions into their papers, others by adding a section which sums up the discussions. The plenary discussions were very interesting and stimulating due to active participation of the audience. The five keynote speakers were asked to view the topic of the workshop, the interaction between algorithms and model formulations, from different perspectives. On the first day of the workshop Professor Alexander H.G. Rinnooy Kan (Erasmus University, Rotterdam, The Netherlands) put the theme into a larger context by his talk "Mathematical programming as an intellectual activity". This is an article of importance to any mathematical programmer who is interested in his field's history and present state.

Download or read book Food and Urbanism written by Susan Parham and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities are home to over fifty percent of the world's population, a figure which is expected to increase enormously by 2050. Despite the growing demand on urban resources and infrastructure, food is still often overlooked as a key factor in planning and designing cities. Without incorporating food into the design process – how it is grown, transported, and bought, cooked, eaten and disposed of – it is impossible to create truly resilient and convivial urbanism. Moving from the table and home garden to the town, city, and suburbs, Food and Urbanism explores the connections between food and place in past and present design practices. The book also looks to future methods for extending the 'gastronomic' possibilities of urban space. Supported by examples from places across the world, including the UK, Norway, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Romania, Australia and the USA, the book offers insights into how the interplay of physical design and socio-spatial practices centred around food can help to maintain socially rich, productive and sustainable urban space. Susan Parham brings together the latest research from a number of disciplines – urban planning, food studies, sociology, geography, and design – with her own fieldwork on a range of foodscapes to highlight the fundamental role food has to play in shaping the urban future.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Programming 4 by : Olvi L. Mangasarian
Download or read book Nonlinear Programming 4 written by Olvi L. Mangasarian and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Programming, 4 focuses on linear, quadratic, and nonlinear programming, unconstrained minimization, nonsmooth and discrete optimization, ellipsoidal methods, linear complementarity problems, and software evaluation. The selection first elaborates on an upper triangular matrix method for quadratic programming, solving quadratic programs by an exact penalty function, and QP-based methods for large-scale nonlinearly constrained optimization. Discussions focus on large-scale linearly constrained optimization, search direction for superbasic variables, finite convergence, basic properties, comparison of three active set methods, and QP-based methods for dense problems. The book then examines an iterative linear programming algorithm based on an augmented Lagrangian and iterative algorithms for singular minimization problems. The publication ponders on the derivation of symmetric positive definite secant updates, preconditioned conjugate gradient methods, and finding the global minimum of a function of one variable using the method of constant signed higher order derivatives. Topics include effects of calculation errors, application to polynomial minimization, using moderate additional storage, updating Cholesky factors, and utilizing sparse second order information. The selection is a valuable source of data for researchers interested in nonlinear programming.

Book Synopsis The Radiological Accident in Soreq by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book The Radiological Accident in Soreq written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 21 June 1990 a fatal radiological accident occurred at an industrial irradiation facility at Soreq, Israel. An operator entered the irradiation room by circumventing safety systems and was acutely exposed, with an estimated whole body dose of 10-20 Gy. The accident, like earlier accidents at similar irradiators, was the consequence of the contravention of operating procedures. An IAEA review team investigated the causes of the accident. This report presents its findings and recommendations and describes the clinical management of the patient, particularly of the haematological phase. The medical treatment included the use of emerging therapies with haematopoietic growth factor drugs which may rescue the overexposed patient, albeit in this case only temporarily. The report is intended for regulatory authorities responsible for the regulation and inspection of irradiators, operating organizations and physicians who may need to treat overexposed patients.
