Book Synopsis Treatability Study of Food Processing Wastewaters Using the Anaerobic Sequencing Batch Reactor (ASBR) by : Fang Peng
Download or read book Treatability Study of Food Processing Wastewaters Using the Anaerobic Sequencing Batch Reactor (ASBR) written by Fang Peng and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A decrease in the organic loading rate was beneficial to recover the system efficiency, but system recovery required more than 50 days. Inhibition was not observed in a subsequent ASBR treatability study on beet sugar wastewater treatment. At 25°C and OLR at or below 22.3 g/L-d, the BOD5 removals attained more than 90% by the 5 liter ASBR system seeded with anaerobic granules. At an OLR 20.8 g/L·d and F/M ratio 1.01 g/gVSS·d, BOD5 and COD removals reached 93% and 92%, respectively at 25°C. 40 liters methane was generated each day at those above conditions. During treatment, supplemental alkalinity and nutrients were not needed.

Book Synopsis Mechanism and Design of Sequencing Batch Reactors for Nutrient Removal by : Derin Orhon
Download or read book Mechanism and Design of Sequencing Batch Reactors for Nutrient Removal written by Derin Orhon and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2005-05-31 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sequencing batch reactor (SBR) is perhaps the most promising and viable of the proposed activated sludge modifications today for the removal of organic carbon and nutrients. In a relatively short period, it has become increasingly popular for the treatment of domestic and industrial wastewaters, as an effective biological treatment system due to its simplicity and flexibility of operation. Mechanism and Design of Sequencing Batch Reactors for Nutrient Removal has been prepared with the main objective to provide a unified design approach for SBR systems, primarily based on relevant process stoichiometry. Specific emphasis has been placed upon the fact that such a unified design approach is also by nature the determining factor for the selection of the most appropriate cyclic operation scheme, the sequence of necessary phases and filling patterns for the particular application. The proposed basis for design is developed and presented in a stepwise approach to cover both organic carbon and nutrient removal, domestic and industrial wastewaters, strong and specific wastes. The merits of model simulation as an integral complement of process design, along with performance evaluation of SBR models are also emphasized. Scientific and Technical Report No. 19

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FROM THE INTRODUCTION This three-volume series, Bioremediation: Principles and Practice, provides state of the art description of advances in pollution treatment and reduction using biological means; identify and address, at a fundamental level, broad scientific and technological areas that are unique to the subject or theme and that must be understood if advances are to be made; and provide a comprehensive overview of new developments at the regulatory, desk-top, bench-scale, pilot scale, and full-scale levels. The series covers all media-air, water, and soil/sediment-and blends the talents, knowledge, and know-how of academic, industrial, governmental, and international contributors. The series addresses the removal of both hazardous and nonhazardous contaminants from the liquid, solid, and gas phase using biological processes. This includes the biological treatment of wastes of municipal and industrial origin; bioremediation of leachates, soils, and sediments; and biofiltration for contaminated gases.
