Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Wednesdays were pretty normal,” writes Michael Kelley, looking for a bright spot amidst the chemotherapy routine brought on by his two-year-old son Joshua’s cancer diagnosis. His book of the same name offers much to anyone who’s tired of prescriptive spirituality and would rather acknowledge and work through the difficulties of faith with some transparency. Joshua battled and beat the disease, but not before his family had to reconcile what it means to believe in God despite a broken world. His dad’s personal account of that fight to survive sparks a larger discussion of how Christians must learn to walk in the light of Christ’s promises despite the dark shadows of earthly pain. Indeed, it’s pain that sometimes opens the door to a deeper experience with Jesus, an authentic relationship that holds steady even when life loses the comfort of normalcy. The enhanced version includes video chapter introductions starring Michael Kelley that really connect you with the heart and emotion of this story, a video interview with Michael Kelley and Lifeway Kids about the cancer journey and trusting God in trying times, a collection of family photos from the Kelleys (before, during, and after the cancer journey), an article about the Kelleys and their story that appeared in ParentLife magazine, and a special email address you can use to connect with Michael and Josh to share your story or let them know how their story impacted your life. Endorsements: "Get ready to go on a remarkable journey . . . Faith is more than a gift we're given; it's a tool we must exercise and use in order to experience its supernatural power. Michael Kelley poignantly illustrates the process of turning faith from a noun to a verb and how it can transform and shape our ability to persevere. Everyone needs to read this book." Pete Wilson, author of Plan B "I sat down to skim this and instead read every word start to finish. Reader, please listen to me: If you have ever suffered, struggled, doubted, wrestled with a God who allows hunger and disease and two-year-old boys to get cancer, if you have attempted to believe God in the midst of devastation or fear, please devour this book like the gift it is. Thank you, Michael, for not only honestly sharing your story with us but drawing us deeper into the true, rich, genuine love of Jesus who cries with us, stays by us, and redeems us." Jen Hatmaker, author of 7 "Anyone who has ever had a sick child will find much needed words of comfort, encouragement, and a powerful reminder that you're not alone. Whether for yourself or your friends, you'll discover divine solace in these pages." Margaret Feinberg, author of Scouting the Divine and Hungry for God "A huge man and a tiny child walk hand in hand through these pages, then right out of the book and into your heart. Read it for your own edification, if you wish! But be alert, there are other parents you may not have noticed, who grieve quietly and are much afraid . . . They need this book." Calvin Miller, author of The Singer trilogy "In the midst of a battle no wants to face, Michael wrestled issues about God and faith and the difficulty of life that most of us will in some way. Honest, heart breaking but beating loudly with hope, Wednesdays were pretty normal is a beautiful book." Jon Acuff, author of Quitter and Stuff Christians Like "Michael points back to a God that is deeper than the pain and doubts, and guides us beyond Christian platitudes to genuine rest in the arms of our heavenly Father. I look forward to recommending this book to people in our church." J.D. Greear, author of Gospel "Michael Kelley iis a gifted communicator and offers the church in this generation much promise. I am pleased not only to recommend this book, but also to commend this faithful servant of the Lord." Thom S. Rainer, president and CEO of Lifeway Christian Resources? ? ? "This is not a sentimental memoir or another theoretical look at suffering. Instead, Michael leads us to the intersection of faith and life, of God's love and our pain, of God's plan and our questions."? Trevin Wax, author of Counterfeit Gospels and Holy Subversion? "I feel very strongly that this story is one that must be shared again and again. You'll find yourself seeing faith, hope, and ultimately, God, in a much more intimate way than you have before."? Mark Batterson, author of In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day ". . . It is also a story about hope and the God whose love reaches us in the deepest depths, the God whose middle name is Surprise! You must read this book!" Timothy George, founding dean, Beeson Divinity School of Samford University

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book of powerful stories about cancer patients and their families who have been touched by God in miraculous ways—some in their bodies, others in their minds, all in their spirits—offers inspiring testimony that, when God and cancer meet, cancer is conquered. The author, herself a cancer survivor, gives us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of 18 personal encounters with God. Here's what others are saying about When God & Cancer Meet: “Lynn has captured the essence of hope in this book; captured hope in ways that I have always taught in my professional world as well as in my spiritual community. This book is a treasure to those who struggle with the fears of cancer and I want to keep it close at hand for those reasons.” —Judy Lentz, RN, MSN, OCN, NHA Executive Director, Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association “I co-lead a cancer support group at my church, and we have been looking for “just the right book” to study and discuss. Guess what?! Lyn wrote it! I was truly touched by all the stories; of course being a cancer-survivor myself, I saw myself in one of the stories, as if Lyn were writing my own personal story. I was truly impressed with the way she incorporated scripture, and God's viewpoint into every story. I think that is of utmost importance for anyone facing this disease. Lyn's book is “Real-Life”; some quickly are healed of the cancer, some deal with it over a prolonged period, some deal with recurrences, some, mercifully, die rather quickly. I share Lyn's belief that GOD sometimes chooses to heal in different ways: physically, emotionally and spiritually. In the process of surviving a primary brain tumor, surgery, Chemo, and radiation, I gave my life to Christ, realizing that my physical health was not GOD's main concern, my Spiritual health was the biggest victim of a disease that needed attention and this was the way He FINALLY got my attention. Lyn's book alludes to this fact in every one of her stories. In this day and age that we are living, where it is against the rules to even mention GOD ( unless we mention His name in vain) it is refreshing to have a book written, praising Him for His care and concern for us; written by a woman who has experienced the disease firsthand, and continues to minister to others with cancer, and to work for a Doctor! who isn't ashamed of his Faith ! WOW!! Obviously, Lyn's book has my highest reccomendation, and my support group will be purchasing multple copies, and we plan to invite Lyn to speak with us. Lyn is a wonderful person, and I thank God for allowing our paths to cross. I'm sure this book will touch many lives, and give many a new perspective and hope with their cancer.” —Chris Winand, cancer survivor

Book excerpt: When Only the Truth Will Do Faced with real-life tests—whether to our reason or our reserves—we more easily doubt than believe, more quickly despair than trust. But often our tentativeness to stand on the Word of God is less a lack of courage and more a lack of knowledge. We know what we’ve heard; we know what we’ve been told. But what’s the truth? What does the Bible really say? What can we grab onto by faith and never let go? This book is an entire collection of biblical truth that deals with a specific area of life—a specific need, a specific topic, a specific place where questions have always seemed more prevalent than answers. But as each page attests, the Scripture will always provide a firm place to dig in and defend. Be sure of what’s true, and you’ll feel a lot more sure of the next step.

Book excerpt: USA TODAY, PUBLISHERS WEEKLY AND ECPA BESTSELLER • The internationally recognized Bible teacher and daughter of Billy Graham combines unique biblical insights and her own personal stories to show how the Holy Spirit guides us in our decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times, enriching our daily lives. In Jesus in Me, Anne Graham Lotz draws on her rich biblical knowledge as well as her personal journey—including her recent cancer diagnosis—to help us understand that the Holy Spirit is not a magic genie, a flame of fire, or a vague feeling. He is a Person who prays for us, guides us in our relationships and decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times. In this seminal teaching, she explores seven key aspects of the Holy Spirit that will revolutionize how you understand and relate to this vital third Person in the Trinity. As Anne writes, “One of my deepest, richest joys has been discovering by experience who the Holy Spirit is in every step of my life’s journey. Each name that He has been given—Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Counselor, Strengthener, and Standby—reveals another aspect of His beautiful character and has provoked in me a deep love for the One who is my constant Companion . . . Jesus in me.” Discover how to better love and rely on the person of the Holy Spirit—and embrace how much He loves you through His presence, power, and provision in our daily lives. Praise for Jesus in Me “With plentiful biblical references, Lotz encourages those who already rely on Jesus to step into a purpose-filled life led by the Holy’s Spirit’s guidance. Christians who desire to live a life of greater purpose to glorify God will be awed by Lotz’s impassioned exploration of the role of the Holy Spirit in her life.”—Publishers Weekly

At times, this experience led her through some deep valleys with dark and threatening shadows. She found herself in need of courage and a source of strength beyond her own to be able to press on. In Praising God in the Valley, Herr shares her story telling about the challenges she faced, the hope and peace God gave her, the many lessons God taught her through cancer that ultimately enriched her life, and other unexpected blessings of the journey. Praising God in the Valley helps you realize how God can use cancer and other adversity to bless you and prepare you to be an ambassador for Him, to bear witness of His love and sustaining strength in your trials in a world that asks: “What difference does it make to be a Christian?” “If God is so good, why do bad things happen to good people?”; and “How can I know for sure I’m going to heaven when I die?” Herr insists that when you discover the courage, strength, peace, and hope God provides, you, too, will be able to praise God in the valley.

We can choose to serve fear or to serve God by having faith in Him. When we begin to worry, we allow doubt to overtake us. Doubt leads to fear, and at this point, we leave the natural fear and embrace the spirit of fear that God has not given us. God has given us His Word, which promises life. He has given us direction in His Word that assures us that He desires for us to be in good health (3 John 1:2); He wants us to trust Him and not doubt; He told us, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Therefore, instead of embracing fear and putting our faith in the situation the crippler has presented us, we need to put our faith and reverence in the God who can heal any situation the crippler has been allowed to bring our way. God suggested that His beloved servant, Job, be tested. Satan needs Gods permission to confront Gods children. The reality is Gods children have the power to take authority over the hands of the enemy, and if he is allowed to touch Gods people, he definitely does not have permission to touch our souls.

One of the few guarantees in life is that we will suffer. Everything around us is broken. Each of us has an expiration date. A few years ago, Eric and his wife, Elizabeth, together with their young children, were confronted with this unavoidable reality when she was faced with a terminal cancer diagnosis. Shattered by grief, they began to wrestle with what it means to follow Jesus when everything around them seemed to be giving way. What this pastor and his wife discovered were a set of truths about God from Scripture that provided the resources they needed to survive—truths too often neglected by the modern world. God meets us in our grief, but not always in ways we expect or even want. Coming from that jumbled place of agony and assurance, Either Way, We’ll Be All Right is a journey through the darkness in hopes of discovering light on the other side.

Book excerpt: Carol Taylor meets cancer for the second time in her life. It has been a formable enemy who has returned to displace, hurt, inconvenience and to ultimately destroy her life. Realizing the true enemy to be the Evil one who does by scripture says to come, kill and destroy and that this cancer to be a weapon formed against her, she learns to lean even heavier on her true help. Faith for the journey through cancer is a must for the child of God. Through faith, strength is drawn from God Himself who is willing and wants to be close every step of the way. How shallow words seem to be when said that one believes in God and once trouble comes, fall apart. Fear is something from the Evil one. Fear is an emotion everyone has. Its when fear is greater than faith, it becomes a problem for the Christian. Carol had to walk by faith alone on this trip through her cancer. Many times she had to concentrate on that one voice that spoke to her and have faith when she felt it to be silent. Several times she had to speak the words of Job, Though you slay me, yet I will trust You. God is faithful and when, from the desire of the heart His child prays, show yourself strong through this trial, He answers in the most amazing way.

How he takes us into the valley of trials. It is a time of doubt of sadness and Faith. The Lord has been doing amazing things in my life and with a 2 and a 3 year old I get the worst news on a Sunday morning, that I have breast cancer. Fear sets in anger, frustration and discouragement. I feel weak sick to my stomach and just hopeless. Where is God in all this???? I have been dedicating my life to Jesus in serving others, sharing his word and living as a good servant,. Why I would ask God why would you allow this, I thought I was covered by Jesus protection how can this be happening to me. I have 2 kids who need me and I had already struggled to get pregnant now that I have kids I am sick? All I can do is cry hold my kids so tight and wish it was a bad dream. I prayed it could all go away. I knew that I had to make a decision to be a victim of this horrible disease or a conqueror in Jesus. I cling to the Lord and asked for strength and healing. I decided to meet Jesus and surrender to his will. Whatever he wants for me, the Lord is my savior and I am a living testimony of healing. We must claim his name and stand firm for he will deliver us in due time, for his word does not come back void. I pray this will touch your heart and encourage you to trust the Lord in whatever you are facing. He is faithful Father.

I sure would not have chosen cancer to celebrate my 60th year, but God had other plans. Sure I trusted God to lead me...but through the valley of the shadow of death? Wasn't there a different route? I expected the despair of cancer, but what took me by surprise was the laughter and even joy in the midst of it. While I would not have minded learning these things without sacrificing a breast, no one consulted me. This is my story of following and trusting God, no matter what. A book about cancer may sound depressing, but honestly, this is a funny book. In fact, when I look back on the year of this little detour in life, I don't remember the horror. I remember God with me and inexplicable peace and blessing during some pretty rough times. This is my offering of hope and encouragement no matter what trial you are facing. As I compiled my cancer book which is in journal form, I realized many of my entries included parallel stories of my work counseling abortion-minded women. As they were so callously throwing life away, I was trying desperately to save my own. The Biblical counsel to both of us was the same. This book is a tribute to the sacred value of life. Quote from book: I watched my phone click off the mileage, and as soon as it hit 6.2 miles, the distance of a 10k, I clicked finish on "Map My Run." The last two miles I averaged below 7:30/mile. I did it. I don't know what reserve all that speed came out of, but it showed me something I needed to see. We defeat ourselves. We are almost always capable of doing more than we believe we are capable of doing. Similarly, we defeat God's work in our lives. Our vision of God is rarely too big...it is usually too small. Can God handle even this cancer? Of course He can. Can He empower me to handle it? Is God big enough for even this? You may not be facing cancer, but I bet you have asked this of God at some point in your life about some overwhelming obstacle. If you haven't, you probably will. My prayer is this book will be useful to you in those dark moments when you only see the smallest pinprick of light.
