Book Synopsis Urban Runoff Quality Management by : Water Environment Federation
Download or read book Urban Runoff Quality Management written by Water Environment Federation and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual comprises a holistic view of urban runoff quality management. For the beginner, who has little previous exposure to urban runoff quality management, the manual covers the entire subject area from sources and effects of pollutants in urban runoff through the development of management plans and the design of controls. For the municipal stormwater management agency, guidance is given for developing a water quality management plan that takes into account receiving water use objectives, local climatology, regulation, financing and cost, and procedures for comparing various types of controls for suitability and cost effectiveness in a particular area. This guidance will also assist owners of large-scale urban development projects in cost-effectively and aesthetically integrating water quality control to the drainage plan. The manual is also directed to designers who desire a self-contained unit that discusses the design of specific quality controls for urban runoff.

Book Synopsis Stormwater Runoff and Receiving Systems by : Edwin Herricks
Download or read book Stormwater Runoff and Receiving Systems written by Edwin Herricks and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-07-25 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary focus of stormwater and urban runoff research during the past twenty-five years has been on the physical description and the chemical quality assessment of runoff events and the design and implementation of the best management practices to control these events. There is a definite need for more effective integration of receiving system issues in the management and regulation of stormwater runoff. This book successfully brings together a diverse group of environmental specialists to address the issues surrounding the assessment, management, and control of stormwater, and more specifically urban runoff, from a receiving system perspective. The book's emphasis on the receiving system is timely, coming during a period when the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is placing increasing emphasis on wet weather conditions through a new permit program for stormwater runoff and a policy on combined sewer overflows. Stormwater Runoff and Receiving Systems covers biocriteria, assessment of receiving water integrity, and integrated watershed analysis-all aspects of current water quality management programs for both industrial and municipal areas. More than thirty chapters are divided into six sections, offering in-depth discussions on various issues relating to stormwater, urban runoff, and receiving systems; impacts; uncertainty and risk; study design; impact mitigation; and issues analysis. Anyone who deals with regulatory programs requiring stormwater effect assessment including more than sampling and analysis of chemical water quality parameters in effluents will find this reference particularly useful.

This book was released on 2015-06-09 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The significance of storm water runoff in affecting water quality in the United States has become an increasing concern in recent years, as further improvements are made in controlling other point sources such as municipal sewage and industrial waste. EPA conducted a broad analysis of storm water runoff characteristics in its Nationwide Urban Runoff Program between 1979 and 1983. During the 1980's the Agency made several attempts to promulgate regulatory controls for storm water runoff under the statutory framework of the 1972 Clean Water Act. Following enactment of the Water Quality Act of 1987, EPA began development of a more comprehensive regulatory program. During the course of these actions, the use of best management practices (BMPs) in addressing runoff problems was frequently identified, however it was known that additional research on the performance of BMPs was also needed. EPA's Engineering and Analysis Division conducted a study on storm water best management practices during 1997 and 1998 as part of its series of preliminary studies in the effluent guidelines program. This report summarizes existing information and data regarding the effectiveness of BMPs to control and reduce pollutants in urban storm water. The report provides a synopsis of what is currently known about the expected costs and environmental benefits of BMPs, and identifies information gaps as well.

Download or read book A Current Assessment of Urban Best Management Practices written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summarizes the capabilities and limitations of structural best management practices in current use for the control of the quality of urban runoff. Addresses issues of particular concern to the coastal zone. Observations are derived from multiple field studies. Includes assessments of extended detention ponds, wet ponds, stormwater wetlands, multiple pond systems, infiltration trenches, infiltration basins, porous pavement, sand filters, grassed swales, vegetated filter strips and water quality inlets. For each practice, the report discusses pollutant removal capability, longevity, environmental impacts, construction and maintenance costs, feasibility in different development contexts, and adaptability to different geographic settings, particularly coastal. The report also suggests improvements under development for each practice, intended to correct notable design flaws or increase overall stormwater management capability.
