This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In writing this monograph, the aim has been to consider the mechanical properties of the wide range of materials now available in such a way as to start with the fundamental nature of these properties and to follow the discussion through to the point at which the reader is able to comprehend the significance or otherwise of the large amounts of data now available in design manuals and other compilations. In short, it is hoped that this volume will be used as a companion to these data compilations and as an aid to their interpretation. In attempting to cover such a wide field, a large degree of selection has been necessary, as complete volumes have been written on topics which here have had to be covered in a few pages or less. It is inevitable that not everyone will agree with the choice made, especially if it is his own subject which has been discussed rather briefly, and the author accepts full res ponsibility for the selection made. The book is written at a level which should be easily followed by a university graduate in science or engineer ing, although, if his background has not included a course in materials science, some groundwork may be lacking.

This book was released on 1961 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of metals at low temperature (OOR 826:16, Part A): Two methods which were used to determine the tensile strength of thin metallic films are described. The adhesion of one metal to another by high speed technique was investigated. Studies of solidified gases at low temperature (OOR 826:16, Part B): An investigation was made of the measurement of PVT relationships and phase transition parameters for various solidified gases. The following reprints are also included: Mechanical properties of thin films of gold and silver (OOR 826:14); Compression and densities of four solidified hydrocarbons and carbon tetrafluoride at 77 K (OOR 826:10); Alarm for Philips air liquefier (OOR 826:15); Phase transitions and compressions of solid CH4, CD4 and O2 (OOR 826:12); Application of indium resistance thermometry (OOR 826:11); Compression and phase transitions of solid NH3, SiF4, H2S, and CF4 (OOR 826:13).

Download or read book Time-dependent Mechanical Properties of Solids written by Wolfgang Gräfe and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 2008-06-29 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This treatment of Time-Dependent Mechanical Properties of Solids begins with a phenomenological description of the transport of some unspecified entity. It is assumed that the transport is caused by mechanical stresses or temperature fields. This hypothesis is based upon just a few well-established methods such as, for instance, the Zener theory of diffusion and the Inglis equation for stress enhancementof. Using these assumptions, it is possible to deduce formulae for a theoretically based description of several phenomena without referring to any specific process or entity.

Book Synopsis Mechanical Properties of Solid Polymers by : Ian M. Ward
Download or read book Mechanical Properties of Solid Polymers written by Ian M. Ward and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-12-17 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing an updated and comprehensive account of the properties of solid polymers, the book covers all aspects of mechanical behaviour. This includes finite elastic behavior, linear viscoelasticity and mechanical relaxations, mechanical anisotropy, non-linear viscoelasicity, yield behavior and fracture. New to this edition is coverage of polymer nanocomposites, and molecular interpretations of yield, e.g. Bowden, Young, and Argon. The book begins by focusing on the structure of polymers, including their chemical composition and physical structure. It goes on to discuss the mechanical properties and behaviour of polymers, the statistical molecular theories of the rubber-like state and describes aspects of linear viscoelastic behaviour, its measurement, and experimental studies. Later chapters cover composites and experimental behaviour, relaxation transitions, stress and yielding. The book concludes with a discussion of breaking phenomena.

Book Synopsis Low-temperature Thermal And Vibrational Properties Of Disordered Solids: A Half-century Of Universal "Anomalies" Of Glasses by : Miguel A Ramos
Download or read book Low-temperature Thermal And Vibrational Properties Of Disordered Solids: A Half-century Of Universal "Anomalies" Of Glasses written by Miguel A Ramos and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-08-11 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, edited by M. A. Ramos and contributed by several reputed physicists in the field, presents a timely review on low-temperature thermal and vibrational properties of glasses, and of disordered solids in general. In 1971, the seminal work of Zeller and Pohl was published, which triggered this relevant research field in condensed matter physics. Hence, this book also commemorates about 50 years of that highlight with a comprehensive, updated review. In brief, glasses (firstly genuine amorphous solids but later on followed by different disordered crystals) were found to universally exhibit low-temperature properties (specific heat, thermal conductivity, acoustic and dielectric attenuation, etc.) unexpectedly very similar among them — and very different from those of their crystalline counterparts. These universal 'anomalies' of glasses and other disordered solids remain very controversial topics in condensed matter physics. They have been addressed exhaustively in this book, through many updated experimental data, a survey of most relevant models and theories, as well as by computational simulations.
