This book was released on 1977 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of a wind tunnel test, simulating rocket motor exhaust jet effects on missile aerodynamic at Mach numbers of 0.7 to 1.4 are presented. A normal jet plume simulator was used to induce afterbody boundary layer separation. Flow visualization techniques including both shadowgraph and oil flow photographs were taken. The primary emphasis for this report is the force and moment measurements taken on twelve configurations including: five tail fin configurations; body alone; three forward fin configurations; body flare combination; and two combinations of forward fins/strakes with tail fins. All force and moment coefficients are presented in plotted form. One configuration is shown with ground plane interference simulation. (Author).

Book Synopsis Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wraparound Fins Mounted on Bodies of Revolution and Rheir Influence on the Missile Static Stability at Mach Numbers from 0.3 to 1.3 by : Calvin Wayne Dahlke
Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wraparound Fins Mounted on Bodies of Revolution and Rheir Influence on the Missile Static Stability at Mach Numbers from 0.3 to 1.3 written by Calvin Wayne Dahlke and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental aerodynamic investigations were conducted for several wraparound fins and one planar fin configuration on bodies of revolution at Mach number ranging from 0.3 to 1.3 and angles of attack from -6 degrees to 6 degrees at 0 degrees at sideslip angle. Six component aerodynamic forces and moments were recorded on the complete missile configuration while simultaneously measuring the aerodynamic normal force and bending moments acting on each fin. The fin configuration parameters varied include chord length, fin thickness, leading edge configuration, tip chord geometry and body, root chord gap. The report presents the plotted coefficient data in two volumes. Volume I contains the complete missile aerodynamic data. Volume 2 contains the individual fin aerodynamic data.
Book Synopsis Experimental Investigation of the Effects of Viscosity on the Drag of Bodies of Revolution at a Mach Number of 1.5 by : Dean R. Chapman
Download or read book Experimental Investigation of the Effects of Viscosity on the Drag of Bodies of Revolution at a Mach Number of 1.5 written by Dean R. Chapman and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: Tests were conducted to determine the effects of viscosity on the drag and base pressure characteristics of various bodies of revolution at a Mach number of 1.5. The models were tested both with smooth surfaces and with roughness added to evaluate the effects of Reynolds number for both laminar and turbulent boundary layers. The principal geometric variables investigated were after-body shape and length-diameter ratio. For most models, force tests and base pressure measurements were made over a range of Reynolds numbers, based on model length, from 0.6 million to 5.0 millions. Schlieren photographs were used to analyze the effects of viscosity on flow separation and shock-wave configuration near the base and to verify the condition of the boundary layer as deduced from force tests. The results are discussed and compared with theoretical calculations.
Book Synopsis Separation of Flow by : Paul K. Chang
Download or read book Separation of Flow written by Paul K. Chang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interdisciplinary and Advanced Topics in Science and Engineering, Volume 3: Separation of Flow presents the problem of the separation of fluid flow. This book provides information covering the fields of basic physical processes, analyses, and experiments concerning flow separation. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the flow separation on the body surface as discusses in various classical examples. This text then examines the analytical and experimental results of the laminar boundary layer of steady, two-dimensional flows in the subsonic speed range. Other chapters consider the study of flow separation on the two-dimensional body, flow separation on three-dimensional body shape and particularly on bodies of revolution. This book discusses as well the analytical solutions of the unsteady flow separation. The final chapter deals with the purpose of separation flow control to raise efficiency or to enhance the performance of vehicles and fluid machineries involving various engineering applications. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.

This book was released on 2000-03-02 with total page 1039 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Twenty-Second Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics was held in Washington, D.C., from August 9-14, 1998. It coincided with the 100th anniversary of the David Taylor Model Basin. This international symposium was organized jointly by the Office of Naval Research (Mechanics and Energy Conversion S&T Division), the National Research Council (Naval Studies Board), and the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (David Taylor Model Basin). This biennial symposium promotes the technical exchange of naval research developments of common interest to all the countries of the world. The forum encourages both formal and informal discussion of the presented papers, and the occasion provides an opportunity for direct communication between international peers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most lifting bodies, or "flying bathtubs" as they were called, were so ugly only an engineer could love them, and yet, what an elegant way to keep wings from burning off in supersonic flight between earth and orbit. Working in their spare time (because they couldn't initially get official permission), Dale Reed and his team of engineers demonstrated the potential of the design that led to the Space Shuttle. Wingless Flight takes us behind the scenes with just the right blend of technical information and fascinating detail (the crash of M2-F2 found new life as the opening credit for TV's "The Six Million Dollar Man"). The flying bathtub, itself, is finding new life as the proposed escape-pod for the Space Station.
