This book was released on 2010 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project have been conducted in an attempt to monitor the changing of tool wear caused by increasing the cutting speed, through the variation of acoustic emission in turning process, under different feed and depth of cut. The signal-processing analysis was done on the raw signal, on the Acoustic Emission, signal filtered using a high bandpass and on the Acoustic Emission signal filtered using a smaller bandpass. The relationship among several parameters of Acoustic Emission such as zero crossing rate and standard deviation of Acoustic Emission was established. The material machined was mild steel and uncoated carbide cutting tool. The cutting force was also monitored. The results show that acoustic emission can be a good way to monitor on line the growth of tool wear in turning process and therefore can be useful for establishing the end of tool life in these operations. Based on the results obtained pointing out the best Acoustic Emission parameters to monitor tool wear, a set-up is proposed to reach to this goal of project.

Download or read book Monitoring of the Machining Process by Means of Acoustic Emission Sensors written by DA. Dornfeld and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research over the last several years has established the effectiveness of acoustic emission (AE) based sensing methodologies for machine condition analysis and process monitoring. Acoustic emission has been proposed and evaluated for a variety of sensing tasks as well as for use as a technique for quantitative studies of manufacturing processes. This paper discusses some of the motivations and requirements for sensing in automated or untended machining processes as well as reviews the research on acoustic emission (AE) sensing of tool condition (wear and fracture) in machining. The background for AE generation in metal cutting and its relationship to the condition of the cutting tool for single and multiple point tools (turning and milling) is presented. Research results will be summarized relating to the sensitivity of AE signals to process changes, AE signal sensitivity to tool condition in turning and milling for wear and fracture, AE signal processing methodologies for feature extraction including time series modeling to remove influences of machining conditions on wear tracking and AE sensor fusion using neural networks for process monitoring with several sensors.

Book Synopsis Acoustic Emission Testing by : Christian U. Grosse
Download or read book Acoustic Emission Testing written by Christian U. Grosse and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-12 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acoustic Emission (AE) techniques have been studied in civil engineering for a long time. The techniques are recently going to be more and more applied to practical applications and to be standardized in the codes. This is because the increase of aging structures and disastrous damages due to recent earthquakes urgently demand for maintenance and retrofit of civil structures in service for example. It results in the need for the development of advanced and effective inspection techniques. Thus, AE techniques draw a great attention to diagnostic applications and in material testing. The book covers all levels from the description of AE basics for AE beginners (level of a student) to sophisticated AE algorithms and applications to real large-scale structures as well as the observation of the cracking process in laboratory specimen to study fracture processes.

Book Synopsis Structural Health Monitoring Damage Detection Systems for Aerospace by : Markus G. R. Sause
Download or read book Structural Health Monitoring Damage Detection Systems for Aerospace written by Markus G. R. Sause and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book presents established methods of structural health monitoring (SHM) and discusses their technological merit in the current aerospace environment. While the aerospace industry aims for weight reduction to improve fuel efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and to decrease maintenance time and operating costs, aircraft structures are often designed and built heavier than required in order to accommodate unpredictable failure. A way to overcome this approach is the use of SHM systems to detect the presence of defects. This book covers all major contemporary aerospace-relevant SHM methods, from the basics of each method to the various defect types that SHM is required to detect to discussion of signal processing developments alongside considerations of aerospace safety requirements. It will be of interest to professionals in industry and academic researchers alike, as well as engineering students. This article/publication is based upon work from COST Action CA18203 (ODIN - http://odin-cost.com/), supported by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology). Book Synopsis Applications of NDT Data Fusion by : Xavier E. Gros
Download or read book Applications of NDT Data Fusion written by Xavier E. Gros and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-destructive testing (NDT) systems can generate incomplete, incorrect or conflicting information about a flaw or a defect. Therefore, the use of more than one NDT system is usually required for accurate defect detection and/or quantification. In addition to a reduction in inspection time, important cost savings could be achieved if a data fusion process is developed to combine signals from multisensor systems for manual and remotely operated inspections. This gathering of data from multiple sources and an efficient processing of information help in decision making, reduce signal uncertainty and increase the overall performance of a non-destructive examination. This book gathers, for the first time, essays from leading NDT experts involved in data fusion. It explores the concept of data fusion by providing a comprehensive review and analysis of the applications of NDT data fusion. This publication concentrates on NDT data fusion for industrial applications and highlights progress and applications in the field of data fusion in areas ranging from materials testing in the aerospace industry to medical applications. Each chapter contains a specific case study with a theoretical part but also presents experimental results from a practical point of view. The book should be considered more as a pragmatic introduction to the applications of NDT data fusion rather than a rigorous basis for theoretical studies.
Book Synopsis Tool Monitoring by Acoustic Emission by : M. Deschamps
Download or read book Tool Monitoring by Acoustic Emission written by M. Deschamps and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monitoring cutting tools is a strong need in automated un-manned production systems. However tool breakage detection should be separated from tool wear monitoring. The works presented in this paper show that Acoustic Emission (AE) can be used for detecting tool breakage in most conditions and an industrial system is available. Tool wear monitoring is much more complex. As demonstrated by some results in turning and milling, there are a great number of influencing parameters. It appears that AE has also capabilities for tool wear monitoring but no industrial system is presently available. Expert system or intelligent system such as Neural Networks using multiparameter appear to be the best solution for the future.
