This book, which features a self-contained discussion guide for use with Life of Jesus DVD, will help you and your friends dig deeper into what is known about Jesus’ life and why it matters. “John Dickson has done a marvelous job of presenting the story of Jesus, and the full meaning of that story, in a way that is both deeply faithful to the biblical sources and refreshingly relevant to tomorrow's world and church. Download or read book LIFE Jesus written by Editors of Life and published by Life. This book was released on 2012-10-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LIFE Books managing editor, Robert Sullivan, has twice been awarded the Wilbur Award for best religion feature in a national magazine and has authored LIFE's New York Times best-selling biography of Pope John Paul II. He brings to this book his expertise on the subject of Christianity a long with text informed by the world's great scholars, theologians and religious figures. Jesus emerged from nowhere to become, in his short life-perhaps as few as 32 years-a thinker, teacher and preacher whose words and deeds would change the world and become the foundation for the world's largest religion. But the biography as outlined in the New Testament and apocryphal writings only tells us so much. LIFE's editors go, in words and pictures, in search of Jesus of Nazareth, the carpenter's son who would one day influence all. The great photographer Denis Waugh once made a thorough, colorful and moving pictorial pilgrimage to the Holy Land exclusively for LIFE, and those images will anchor our quest. We will travel, as well, to the Vatican, to the missions of Africa, to the Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco-to all that has risen in Jesus, name. In the book's final section, we will look at Christianity today: Its still vastly influential place in our tumultuous world.

Book Synopsis The Illustrated Life of Paul by : Charles L. Quarles
Download or read book The Illustrated Life of Paul written by Charles L. Quarles and published by B&H Academic. This book was released on 2020-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Except for the Lord Jesus himself, no person has been more influential in the history of the church than Saul of Tarsus. Paul's influence upon the early church's most cherished convictions is so clear and powerful that some scholars have dared to describe him as the founder of Christianity. Paul had a greater impact on the formation of the Christian church than any other apostle. He wrote thirteen of the twenty-seven books of the New Testament so that nearly half of the New Testament documents bear his name. Although some of Paul's letters are brief compared to other New Testament books, his epistles compromise approximately one-fourth of the total volume of the New Testament. Approximately sixteen chapters of the Book of Acts focus on Paul's persecution of the church, conversion, missionary labors, arrest and imprisonment. When these chapters are combined with Paul's letters, Paul may be recognized as the author or subject of nearly one-third of the New Testament. Paul was not only the most effective Christian missionary and church planter in history, but also the most significant and influential interpreter of Jesus' teachings and of the significance of Jesus' life, death, resurrection, and return. This book introduces readers to this amazing man and his incredible story. It explains the background of each of Paul's letters and offers a summary of the beliefs of one of the keenest theological minds in the history of the church. All along, it enables the reader an opportunity to step into the world of Paul with over 150 photos, maps, illustrations, and charts.
Book Synopsis Jesus the Messiah by : Donald Guthrie
Download or read book Jesus the Messiah written by Donald Guthrie and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 1982-01-19 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Jesus the Messiah" is a basic, non-technical introduction to the life of Christ, carefully tracing His life and works as evidence of the truth of His claims and of the firm convictions of the early Christians--an inspirational study of Christ's life. The author prefaces his work by admitting that "Many deny the possibility of writing a life of Jesus, and it must be conceded that no 'life' in the biographical sense can be written. It is impossible to produce a psychological study of Jesus. His developing awareness of messianic mission cannot be traced. This book presents an account of Jesus from the perspective of faith. It sees in His deeds and words evidence of the truth of His claims and of the firm convictions of the early Christians. . . . No one who reflects on His life and mission can fail to be affected by it, and in this sense the present study is in the nature of a personal testimony."
