By thoughtfully planning in advance both financially and emotionally, we can help ease the overwhelming emotions of this significant life transition, and spend more time enjoying our new life to the fullest. This book guides us on how to have a rewarding and dynamic life. It teaches one how to bring transformation from loss of identity, which comes with retirement, to sense of purpose. It tells us that we are not done yet and the retirement stage is a new dawn. Society views us that way and makes us believe, after a certain stage of retirement, as useless. And unfortunately, it sinks within many of us. We don’t have to allow that. This book inspires us and tells us how to take retirement as a stage to grow not stop. People in the retirement stage are too young to be old. It has nothing to do with aging. This book is not only for those who are in the retirement stage but also for everyone facing challenges in life and finding life boring and lonely. This book is a must-read for anyone struggling to find happiness in daily life and wanting to avoid living out a retired life of mediocrity. We have the potential for happy retirement but for that, we have to plan and make it happen. Since nothing will happen automatically, this book will be of help. The book will bring up awareness of the various challenges, that retirees are likely to face, and show the ways to handle them for a beautiful life ahead.

Book excerpt: A tale of nine love stories--spanning 1100 years and stretching from the canyons and mesas of prehistoric North America to the snowy peaks of the Himalayas, from the Serengeti plains of Africa to the inner confines of a sultan's harem, from the Adirondack lakes of the British colonies to the law courts of Victorian London, and finally to the hospital halls of Ohio. What weaves these tales together is something stronger than death and lasting longer than time as we know it. Beyond the sweeping romance and soul-baring emotional intrigue, Weber delivers nine well-researched historical studies of what it was like to live in those widely varying cultures during vastly different times...and what can happen when you continue to open your heart to love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A guide for planning that rich season of life, based not just on money, but also on how to create meaningful relationships, memories, and legacy.” —Dan Miller, author of 48 Days to the Work You Love Rock Retirement offers inspirational advice on how to enjoy the journey to retirement to its fullest. Traditional retirement advice usually boils down to saving more, sacrificing more, and settling for less. This approach makes people dependent on systems outside their control, such as the market, economy, and investment returns. The result: people lose power over determining their life. What sets Rock Retirement apart is its holistic approach to helping people take back control and act intentionally towards the life they want. It addresses the fears, hopes, and dreams that people have about retirement, goes way beyond the numbers, and shows them how to balance living well today and tomorrow. “Too many books think retirement is just about finances. Instead, retirement is about looking at life in full and working out what it is you want to do and then turning to finances to make it happen. That’s exactly the focus of the practical and helpful guide.” —Andrew Scott, coauthor of The 100-Year Life “Roger Whitney lays out a plan for today’s modern retiree. If you are exhausted with being fed that retirement is the end game of life, then Roger’s book is a must-read!” —Darryl W. Lyons, author of 18 to 80 “If you’re dreaming of a retirement free of worry, chao and confusion, Rock Retirement will give you the clarity, a solid plan and fresh inspiration to help you get where you want to go.” —Jevonnah “Lady J” Ellison, author of Love Letters for Leading Ladies

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes how Lisa Meitner, of Jewish heritage, found herself working as a physicist at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute in Berlin when the Nazis came to power in 1933; how she was hounded out of the country and forced to relocate to Sweden; how German chemists Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassman continued with the project – on the effect of bombarding uranium (the heaviest known element at the time) with neutrons, a project which Lise herself had initiated, being the intellectual leader of the group. It describes how Hahn and Strassmann, with whom she kept in touch, came up with some extraordinary results which they were at a loss to explain; how Lise, and her nephew Otto Frisch, who was also a physicist, confirmed what they had achieved - the ‘splitting of the atom’, no less, and provided them with a theoretical explanation for it. This laid the foundation for nuclear power, medical-scanning technology, radiotherapy, electronics, and of course, the atomic bomb - the creation of which filled Lise with horror. It describes the crucial part that Lise played in our understanding of the world of atoms, and how deliberate and strenuous attempts were made to deny her contribution; to belittle her achievements, and to write her out of the history books, even though Albert Einstein said she was even ‘more talented than Marie Curie herself’. The author is fortunate and honoured to have been granted several interviews with Lise’s nephew Philip Meitner – himself a refugee from the Nazis - who with his wife Anne, provided much valuable information and many photographs.

Book excerpt: The Game Plan is the first professional book that gives secondary administrators, literacy coaches, and other instructional leaders a step-by-step blueprint for implementing the Common Core Literacy Standards for History/Social Studies, Science, and the Technical Subjects and other college and career readiness standards. The book provides principals, district supervisors, instructional coaches, and other leaders with a coherent, realistic plan to build a school-wide culture of literacy instruction, data use, and PLC-based cycles of reflection, planning, and action. This multi-year plan is built on a continuous cycle of improvement philosophy and is modular in nature, allowing leaders to rearrange, substitute, and modify the plan to meet the needs of any secondary school. Organized in two parts, the first section of The Game Plan lays out a semester-by-semester flexible configuration for introducing, implementing, and supporting the literacy standards over the course of six full school years; this section also includes detailed guidelines for creating a comprehensive assessment plan to gather, analyze, and act on school data. The second section includes instructional tools and strategies for reading, writing, vocabulary, and other aspects of the literacy standards that teachers in all subject areas can use.
