Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The historical variation in research studies on rural growth and highway improvement over the last 40 years is both topical and methodological. One of the key difficulties in conceptualizing the relationship between rural growth and transportation improvement has been the complexity of rural growth. Population growth is part of rural growth, but since population growth depends directly on economic growth, these concepts have been intertwined since the 1950s. similarly, economic and population growth affect land use changes. Thus, we conducted a very broad search of the literature to characterize the very multidimensional concept of rural growth and its relationship to the highway transportation system. In the report summary, we review the most significant of these studies and describe their findings. The Bibliography that follows describes each study in detail.

Book Synopsis Assessing the Effects of Highway-widening Improvements on Urban and Suburban Areas by : Thomas Nelson Harvey
Download or read book Assessing the Effects of Highway-widening Improvements on Urban and Suburban Areas written by Thomas Nelson Harvey and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1996 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to highway environmental specialists (particularly those concerned with assessing social and economic impacts), design engineers, planners, utility managers, and others responsible for the planning, design, and implementation of highway-widening improvements. Information is presented on the reasons for highway-widening projects, the nature of the projects, and the methods and practices for application of analytical techniques used to measure the potential or actual impacts of the projects on people and the physical environment. Mitigation measures are also discussed. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the most recent widening projects as reported by states or other transportation agencies, as well as the most frequently encountered issues in highway widening. Selected examples of widening projects are included, as is some recognition of the need for additional information and research in the areas of social and economic impact measurement.

Download or read book Impact Evaluation of Transport Interventions written by David A. Raitzer and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication aims to support impact evaluation in the transport sector by assessing what has been produced against what might be possible. It reviews 91 impact evaluations of transport interventions in developing countries, summarizes findings on outcomes, identifies evidence gaps, and proposes ways forward. Most of the studies reviewed find significant effects on at least one of the outcomes investigated. However, impact evaluation has given relatively little coverage to major areas of investment, such as urban and sustainable transportation, transport corridors, and efficiency enhancing measures. New methods and increasing openness of geospatial data provide scope to generate more innovative impact studies.
