Book excerpt: Domestic Violence Not a Victim an Enabler The word victim means to be unable to protect yourself or others and this is a power tool for the monsters that every abuse people like myself. Nearly 5.3 million partner victimizations occur each year among U. S. women ages 18 and older, resulting in 2 Million injuries and 1,300 deaths. In Tennessee, according to figures furnished by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) - In 2006, there were 87,106 domestic violence victims reported. (Lifesnewbeginnings.com). As a former '¬Svictim'¬ I realized that I wore that hat (victim) and now I needed to address myself as an enabler in order to change. A victim according to dictionary.reference.com is a person who is deceived or cheated, as by his or her own emotions or ignorance, by the dishonesty of others, or by some impersonal agency: a victim of misplaced confidence; the victim of a swindler; a victim of an optical illusion. So to say I was a victim of domestic violence no I was an enabler and there is not another moment I will allow myself to say I am a victim. According to dictionary.reference.com an enabler is; to make able; give power, means, competence, or ability to; authorize: This document will enable him to pass through the enemy lines unmolested. While it may be hard to change the way we look at domestic violence, I hope this book enables people of all abusive situations to take back their lives and save lives. The life you save may be yours or of someone you love. I am not a vigilante but I am no longer going to lie down with someone who will not stand up for me either. This is not a crime against only women but children, disabled people. Older adults, men and gays as well. I am selling red, yellow and blue wristbands for $2.50 each with the words, not victim an enabler, in order to bring awareness to this issue and some of the proceeds will go towards teaching others to take back their lives, report these abusers and do not allow anyone to have that much power over your life. Not even in the name of religion. In addition to make more ex-enablers to press charges and make sure they stick as all too often I as well, let these predators to get away with murder. To order your bracelet as a symbol to these predators make sure you and a self addressed stamped envelope and a check or money order (no cash)for $2.50 which includes S&H to:------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No Longer an EnablerPo Box Auburn, WA 9800Introduction

Book excerpt: The Victim's Guide to Surviving the Narcissist/Sociopath Updated and its first position 300-plus page Pre-Book is a two books-in-one book designed to assist victims of covert spousal predators and their support persons understand the reality of the covert spousal predator (i.e. the narcissist, malignant narcissist, sociopath/psychopath, dual diagnosed/dual diagnosable, narcopath). This material delves into the worst case scenario possible for the spousal victim as well as common red flags, exploitation, strip-mining, predatory take-ALL agenda and abuse patterns perpetrated by the covert spousal predator in his/her hunting prime and afterward when the predator decompensates. Many valuable references are provided throughout this book for further education/research and understanding. Readers are strongly encouraged to continue their review of material created by all of the referenced educators and authors listed in this book. Moreover, the top mistakes made by victims, support persons for victims, professionals, law enforcement and others are detailed in the hopes that readers will avoid making as many of these errors as they face various scenarios with the predator or predators in their lives or in the lives of others they are attempting to assist. For spousal victims in the worst case scenario with an empowered/aided and abetted covert spousal predator (i.e. situations where common minor children are involved) this book covers topics typically not touched in the material of others. This book is not about overt spousal predators (i.e. abusers whose victims can effectively use the system and/or domestic violence shelter assistance to flee) though overt predators perpetrate many of the same abuse patterns minus the skill of becoming aided and abetted via abuse by proxy scams, which are commonly the mainstay of the covert predator's take-ALL agenda.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transformations of Tradition probes how the encounter with colonial modernity conditioned Islamic jurists' conceptualizations of the shari'a. Departing from the tendency to focus on reformist-minded thinkers and politically charged issues, Junaid Quadri directs his attention towards the overlooked jurisprudential writings of Muhammad Bakhit al-Muti-i (1854-1935), Mufti of Egypt and a frequent critic of the famed reformists Muhammad 'Abduh and Rashid Rida. There, he locates a remarkable series of foundational intellectual shifts. Offering a fresh perspective on a pivotal period in the history of Islamic thought, Quadri tracks how Bakhit reworks the relationship of the shari'a to categories of understanding as fundamental as history and authority, science and technology, and religion and the secular, thereby upending the very ground upon which Islamic law had until then functioned. Through close readings of complex legal texts and mining of oft-neglected archives, this carefully researched study situates its argument in both the contested scholarly world of a quickly-changing Cairo, and the transregional school of Hanafi law as represented by jurists writing in Kazan, Lucknow, and Baghdad. Examining Islamic jurisprudential discourse in the colonial moment, Transformations of Tradition uncovers a shari'a that is neither a medieval holdover nor merely a pragmatic concession to the demands of a new world, but rather deeply entangled with the epistemological commitments of colonial modernity.

Book excerpt: The #1 New York Times bestseller! Washington D.C. might be loathed from every corner of the nation, yet these are fun and busy days at this nexus of big politics, big money, big media, and big vanity. There are no Democrats and Republicans anymore in the nation's capital, just millionaires. Through the eyes of Leibovich we discover how the funeral for a beloved newsman becomes the social event of the year; how political reporters are fetishized for their ability to get their names into the predawn e-mail sent out by the city's most powerful and puzzled-over journalist; how a disgraced Hill aide can overcome ignominy and maybe emerge with a more potent "brand" than many elected members of Congress. And how an administration bent on "changing Washington" can be sucked into the ways of This Town with the same ease with which Tea Party insurgents can, once elected, settle into it like a warm bath. Outrageous, fascinating, and very necessary, This Town is a must-read whether you're inside the highway which encircles DC - or just trying to get there.
