Book Synopsis Inflation Crises and Long-run Growth by : Michael Bruno
Download or read book Inflation Crises and Long-run Growth written by Michael Bruno and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent literature suggests that long-run averages of growth and inflation are only weakly correlated and such correlation is not robust to exclusion of extreme inflation observations; inclusion of time series panel data has improved matters, but an aggregate parametric approach remains inconclusive. We propose a nonparametric definition of high inflation crises as periods when inflation is above 40 percent annually. Excluding countries with high inflation crises, we find no evidence of any consistent relationship between growth and inflation at any frequency. However, we find that growth falls sharply during discrete high inflation crises, then recovers surprisingly strongly after inflation falls. The fall in growth during crisis and recovery of growth after crisis tend to average out to close to zero (even slightly above zero), hence the lack of a robust cross-section correlation. Our findings could be consistent either with trend stationarity of output, in which inflation crises are purely cyclical phenomena, or with models in which crises have a favorable long-run purgative effect. Our findings do not support the view that reduction of high inflation carries heavy short-to-medium run output costs.
Book Synopsis Indian Industrial Clusters by : Keshab Das
Download or read book Indian Industrial Clusters written by Keshab Das and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an in-depth analysis of the functional dynamics of Indian industrial clusters which have grown and stayed as hubs of business activity in India, thanks to a large calibrated domestic market for goods. The examples given contribute towards the understanding of theoretical underpinnings of small firm clusters in LDCs and also indicate steps towards effective policy making for SME development in general, and local economic regeneration in LDCs in particular. The industries studied include modern as well as traditional/artisanal sectors which span at least ten Indian states. They provide insights into informality, labour, inter-firm relationship (cooperation and competition), technological and organisational flexibility, and forms of supportive institutional arrangements and nature of linkages with agencies external to the cluster, among other things. This book will be of particular interest to SME practitioners and to students and researchers of economics, business management, regional development, economic geography, industrial sociology and industrial organisation.
Book Synopsis Offshore Banking by : Mr.Luca Errico
Download or read book Offshore Banking written by Mr.Luca Errico and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper takes a closer look at offshore banking—a pervasive practice that has played a role in recent crises. Offshore banking is an increasingly attractive alternative to the sometimes heavily regulated financial markets of emerging economies. From a microeconomic vantage point, offshore banks seem to exploit the risk-return tradeoff by being more profitable than onshore banks, and in many instances also more leveraged. Risks stemming from offshore activities may be easily transmitted onshore with systemic consequences. Current prudential and supervisory frameworks are broadly adequate for risk management if effectively and universally implemented.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents views, frameworks and practices on stimulating and realising our optimal potential as human beings in the context of a workplace where there is a desire to achieve shared goals and aspirations in order to accomplish positive economic, societal and environmental impacts and outcomes. It describes a vision of how life and work in organisations could be. We describe a new kind of organisation. Being a good person and doing good things while making profit are a real possibility for those management innovators who think beyond immediate trade-offs. In this book we explore management innovation as core study field and arena for re-inventing and re-imagining how people in organisations could execute management activities such as planning, organising, leading and controlling for multiple stakeholder satisfaction and benefits. Work can be much more joyful and fulfilling than we think, but it requires courage from us to take responsibility when freedom is offered.
