Book excerpt: Have you had one of those days when you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of what is going on in the world? Well, find a cozy spot as you pick up a book, preferably this romantic novel, that almost guarantees to touch your emotional side and hopefully captivate your attention when you begin reading Chapter 1. Since it is a romantic story, surely, some of your own romantic memories will come to surface, remembering those special times when you met someone special, feeling your heart racing a hundred beats per minute, the anticipation of seeing that special someone, and falling in love. Congratulations, if you are one of the fortunate ones to have found the love of your life and living a happy, robust life. For those who have yet to find that special love, keep looking it is out there when you least expect it. Take comfort from a famous quote by Alfred Lord Tennyson, ‘Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.” This is a romantic love story of people who have found love despite how their story ended they share a common realization that the human heart has a divine way of finding true love and the resiliency to recover from tremendous hurt to love again. There are three main characters in the book, a heroin and two heroes. The heroin name Christina or most people call her Chris is a young woman in her mid-twenties whose world came crashing down when she ended her engagement to a handsome. dashing lawyer/politician. First hero, Mark Ingram, a new resident of Everett, Washington who has spent the last five years living in Europe, an independent contractor working for the U.S. Government. He has been a loner since a tragedy within his family. His line of work required constant travel at a moment’s notice, long separation, not having a permanent location long enough to pull out the “Welcome” mat, almost a perfect life for a loner such as Mark. Second hero, Adam Harrison, an outdoor enthusiast and has all the credentials of a perfect spouse. Moreover, he is secretly in love with a woman who seemingly still in love with the memory of the man she considers the love of her life. The characters in this story will cross-paths once or twice and call it destiny, karma, serendipity, or a twist of fate. At times they are faced with adversities that challenges, test or question their love for the other person, clearly, they follow their heart to find the answers. In their heart of hearts, Christina, Mark and Adam find the love of their life that will last forever...

Book excerpt: This is the disturbing account of 31-year-old Joanna Dennehy, mother of two, the man under her spell, Gary Stretch, 47, and the murder investigation that led them and others to the Old Bailey for trial. A true crime short, plus 17 additional true crime stories. It was the day before Easter, 2013. A man out walking his dog on a rural road near Peterborough, United Kingdom found a dead body lying in a ditch. The grisly discovery preceded two other dead body discoveries under similar circumstances, thus launching police on a massive country-wide manhunt for a self-mutilating female psychopath with an affinity for knives and her 7-foot 3-inch tall companion and accomplice. Before their bloody rampage was brought to an end, they would attempt to kill two additional innocent people who likely never even saw them coming. This volume also includes the bizarre, compelling and frighteningly authentic true crime stories of several headline-grabbing cases, as well as more obscure cases that received little media attention. Within these pages you will find stories about serial killer Andrew Urdiales; Jodi Arias and the murder of Travis Alexander; the random serial stabber case; a killer who wanted to be like "Dexter;" a "blood oath" murder case out of Washington State; a story about a "dead" man who murdered two female victims; the case of Portland's "Motel Hell" bloodbath; and several other real-life true crime dramas chosen especially for true crime aficionados about killers who mostly had one thing in common—they were OUT FOR BLOOD! 18 stories in all. Book excerpt: The Legacy Road is a non-fiction work that is difficult to categorize. It's a travel essay, a historic biographical experience, a genealogical guidebook, a Civil War studies reference, and an educational and spiritual journey that we will take together, learning as we go. Traveling upon The Legacy Road -using my ancestor's Civil War letters as guideposts- was my unique response to the unexpected passing of my father. If this book can help anyone shed some light on the mysteries of their own heritage, increase their knowledge of Civil War History, or confront the adverse effects of personal loss, then this dedication -twelve-years in the making- will prove its worth. The Legacy Road is a story that was already written. It just hadn't found its author yet. Ask anyone who is close to me, and they'll agree that there seemed to be some spiritual forces at work behind the development of this project, and had been from the very beginning. Above all, the adventure was a life-altering journey. Enjoy the ride.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of Shaping Seattle Architecture, published in 1994, introduced readers to Seattle’s architects by showcasing the work of those who were instrumental in creating the region’s built environment. Twenty years later, the second edition updates and expands the original with new information and illustrations that provide an even richer exploration of Seattle architecture. The book begins with a revised introduction that brings the story of Seattle architecture into the twenty-first century and situates developments in Seattle building design within local and global contexts. The book’s fifty-four essays present richly illustrated profiles that describe the architects' careers, provide an overview of their major works, and explore their significance. Shaping Seattle Architecture celebrates a wide range of people who helped form the region's built environment. It provides updated information about many of the architects and firms profiled in the first edition. Four individuals newly included in this second edition are Edwin J. Ivey, a leading residential designer; Fred Bassetti, an important contributor to Northwest regional modernism; L. Jane Hastings, one of the region’s foremost women in architecture; and Richard Haag, founder of the landscape architecture program at the University of Washington and designer of Gas Works Park and the Bloedel Reserve. The book also includes essays on the buildings of the Coast Salish people, who inhabited Puget Sound prior to Euro-American settlement; the role that architects played in speculative housing developments before and after World War II; and the vernacular architecture built by nonprofessionals that makes up a portion of the fabric of the city. Shaping Seattle Architecture concludes with a substantial reference section, updated to reflect the last twenty years of research and publications. A locations appendix offers a geographic guide to surviving works. The research section directs interested readers to further resources, and the appendix “Additional Significant Seattle Architects” provides thumbnail sketches of nearly 250 important figures not included in the main text.
