Download or read book The Effect of Massed Versus Distributed Practice on Free Throw Shooting Accuracy written by Michael F. Novak and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifth and sixth grade boys (N = 38) participated in the free throw study to examine the effects of massed and distributed practice during a 10-session experimental program. Ss were randomly assigned to two groups: a massed practice group (n = 19), and a distributed practice group (n = 19). Each S in the massed practice group practiced 20 consecutive free throws during each session. Each S in the distributed practice group practiced 20 free throws, attempted two free throws then waited until every other subject in his sub-group had attempted two free throws before taking his next turn. An ANCOVA produced P> .05 between the massed practice free throw shooting method and the distributed practice free throw shooting method. Results of using the adjusted mean scores indicated that the massed practice group showed the greater increase in improvement over the distributed practice group.

Book Synopsis The Purpose of this Study is to Determine the Effect of the "big Ball" Basketball Shooting Aid as a Tool to Measure Free Throw Shooting Percentage by : James H. Rowe
Download or read book The Purpose of this Study is to Determine the Effect of the "big Ball" Basketball Shooting Aid as a Tool to Measure Free Throw Shooting Percentage written by James H. Rowe and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The significance of this study was to determine if using a big ball basketball during practice will increase free throw shooting percentage in high school male athletes. The big ball was designed to improve shooting accuracy of basketball players by: 1) increasing the tracking of the ball, 2) increasing the arch on the free throw shot, 3) forcing subjects to spread hand on the back of the ball. The subjects were eighteen boy's varsity and junior varsity basketball players from Sultan High School. The study took place during the 1999-2000 high school boy's basketball season. Subjects practiced for two and a half hours, six days a week throughout the season. The season lasted from November until February. The study involved a pre-test at the beginning of the season and a post test at the end of the season. The results of the test were factored using a two way ANOVA to determine significance. There was also a paired t-test between control and experimental groups. This study found that both control and experimental groups had improved their shooting percentages from pre-test to post-test. There was no difference between experimental and control group to support the effect of increased shooting percentage due to the big ball basketball"--Document.

Download or read book Fifteen Feet For Free written by Jim Lee and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-06-07 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Jimmy Lee was the best shooter from 15-feet I have ever seen. If he got his shot, he made it. Early, middle, or late in games – it did not matter when. Jimmy had great fundamentals, he worked hard and he shot the ball with great confidence. He was so consistent; if he missed a shot you thought it was an accident. His thoughts and techniques can help anyone improve their free throw shooting” Jim Boeheim – Head Coach at Syracuse University, Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Class of 2005; 2008 Olympic Gold Medal, Team USA, 2010 World Championship Gold Medal, Team USA; 2010 Division I Coach of the Year “Jim Lee and I were contemporaries at Syracuse. He played in the games – I talked about them. I remember him as a clutch shooter (in the 1975 NCAA Tournament, his 18-footer with 3 seconds left upset North Carolina, and paved the way for Syracuse’s first trip to the Final Four). Since Jimmy was pretty close to automatic from the foul line, just about every player, at every level, can benefit from his advice and proven approach.” Bob Costas – NBC Sports “This is a rare book, because Jim is able to weave together invaluable skills instruction with a very personal and informative story about his relationships with teammates, coaches, and most importantly his family. Jim’s father, as both a veteran and a person with disabilities, clearly served as an exemplar for Jim with regard to how he approached basketball – and how he approached life. This is clearly illustrated by the fact that Jim has committed to leverage the proceeds from sales of this book to improve the lives of this generation of veterans with disabilities. On so many levels, Jim’s book is powerfully positioned to impart lessons about basketball and life that are meaningful and timeless.” Mike Haynie, PhD – Executive Director, Institute for Veterans and Military Families, Syracuse University; Barnes Professor of Entrepreneurship, Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University “Fifteen Feet For Free is an easy read for all ages. It can be very helpful for kids just beginning their basketball days, and I can see a great benefit for more experienced players. The fundamental instructions in this book can easily improve a player’s free throw percentage.” Morgan Wootten – 1,274 wins as Head Basketball Coach at DeMatha HS; Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Class of 2000; National Coach of the 20th Century; Four-time recipient of National Coach of the Year; 10-time recipient of Coach of the Year in the Washington D.C. Area “The fundamentals of great free throw shooting are in complete alignment with the values of practice, repetition, goal sitting, and mental calm that successful business people employ. Jim gets this and writes about it in an amazingly real and compelling way.” Mike Perlis – President and CEO, Forbes Media
Book Synopsis The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting Accuracy of Female Collegiate Basketball Players by : Michele Elaine Rupe
Download or read book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting Accuracy of Female Collegiate Basketball Players written by Michele Elaine Rupe and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of an aiming apparatus on female collegiate basketball players' shooting accuracy. The study was conducted with two Division II Women's basketball programs during the 1994-95 season. The experimental and control groups participated in a pre-test, mid-test and post-test to measure shooting accuracy changes over a 16 week period between Dec . 1, 1994 and Feb. 28, 1995. Each test consisted of 65 field goal attempts from 13 designated spots out to and including three point range, along the baseline, at 45 degree angles, and straight out from the basket as well as 20 free throw attempts. The control group did not participate in practice sessions with the device. The practice sessions were designed to examine the effect of immediate transfer by including a set of shots with the device followed by immediate practice on a basket without the device. The results ofthe experimental group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores while using the device for 30 practice sessions were compared to the results of the control group's pre-test, mid-test, and post- test scores without the use of the device or practice sessions to determine significance. A Repeated Measures of ANOVA statistical test was used to determine if a significant difference existed between the experimental and control group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores. Alpha was chosen at the .05 level. The experimental group improved in all four categories of shooting when comparing their scores with and without the device during the 30 practice sessions. The overall field goal percentage increased from 60.9% to 65.9%, the two point percentage from 74.4% to 77.2%, three point percentage from 39.5% to 48%, and free throw percentage from 76.3% to 78. 1%. Even though the study found positive results in the experimental group's shooting percentages in the four categories, significant difference was not found between the experimental and control group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores"--Document.
