Book Synopsis Phase Separation Coupled with Damage Processes by : Christian Heinemann
Download or read book Phase Separation Coupled with Damage Processes written by Christian Heinemann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-03-24 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors explore a unifying model which couples phase separation and damage processes in a system of partial differential equations. The model has technological applications to solder materials where interactions of both phenomena have been observed and cannot be neglected for a realistic description. The equations are derived in a thermodynamically consistent framework and suitable weak formulations for various types of this coupled system are presented. In the main part, existence of weak solutions is proven and degenerate limits are investigated.

Download or read book Mathematical Methods and Models in Phase Transitions written by Alain Miranville and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The modelling and the study of phase transition phenomena are capital issues as they have essential applications in material sciences and in biological and industrial processes. We can mention, e.g., phase separation in alloys, ageing of materials, microstructure evolution, crystal growth, solidification in complex alloys, surface diffusion in the presence of stress, evolution of the surface of a thin flow in heteroepitaxial growth, motion of voids in interconnects in integrated circuits, treatment of airway closure disease by surfactant injection, fuel injection, fire extinguishers etc., This book consists of 11 contributions from specialists in the mathematical modelling and analysis of phase transitions. The content of these contributions ranges from the modelling to the mathematical and numerical analysis. Furthermore, many numerical simulations are presented. Finally, the contributors have tried to give comprehensive and accurate reference lists. This book should thus serve as a reference book for researchers interested in phase transition phenomena.

This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper investigates a nonlocal version of a model for phase separation on an atomic lattice that was introduced by P. Podio-Guidugli in Ric. Mat. 55 (2006) 105-118. The model consists of an initial-boundary value problem for a nonlinearly coupled system of two partial differential equations governing the evolution of an order parameter p and the chemical potential my. Singular contributions to the local free energy in the form of logarithmic or ouble-obstacle potentials are admitted. In contrast to the local model, which was studied by P. Podio-Guidugli and the present authors in a series of recent publications, in the nonlocal case the equation governing the evolution of the order parameter contains in place of the Laplacian a nonlocal expression that originates from nonlocal contributions to the free energy and accounts for possible long-range interactions between the atoms. It is shown that just as in the local case the model equations are well posed, where the technique of proving existence is entirely different: it is based on an application of Tikhonov's fixed point theorem in a rather unusual separable and reflexive Banach space.
Book Synopsis A Temperature-dependent Phase-field Model for Phase Separation and Damage by : Christian Heinemann
Download or read book A Temperature-dependent Phase-field Model for Phase Separation and Damage written by Christian Heinemann and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we study a model for phase separation and damage in thermoviscoelastic materials. The main novelty of the paper consists in the fact that, in contrast with previous works in the literature (cf., e.g., [21, 22]), we encompass in the model thermal processes, nonlinearly coupled with the damage, concentration and displacement evolutions. More in particular, we prove the existence of "entropic weak solutions", resorting to a solvability concept first introduced in [10] in the framework of Fourier-Navier-Stokes systems and then recently employed in [9, 38] for the study of PDE systems for phase transition and damage. Our global-intime existence result is obtained by passing to the limit in a carefully devised time-discretization scheme.
