Download or read book An Accurate Method of Measuring the Moments of Inertia of Airplanes written by M. P. Miller and published by . This book was released on 1930 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This note contains a description of an improved apparatus and procedure used for determining the moments of inertia of airplanes. The method, based on the pendulum theory, is similar to that previously used, but a recent investigation of its accuracy has resulted in the improvements described herein. The error, when using the new apparatus and procedure, has been found to be of the order of 1 percent. Sample data and calculation for an airplane are included in an appendix.

Book Synopsis Theoretical Investigation and Application of Transonic Similarity Law for Two Dimensional Flow by : William Perl
Download or read book Theoretical Investigation and Application of Transonic Similarity Law for Two Dimensional Flow written by William Perl and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transonic similarity law for two-dimensional flow derived by von Karman was investigated by an iteration procedure similar to that of the Rayleigh-Janzen and Ackeret-Prandtl-Glauert methods. The results, which show that the potential can be expressed as a power series in a single parameter that depends on Mach number, thickness ratio, and ratio of specific heats, are in agreement with those of von Karman. By the iteration procedure, the second approximation for the flow past a Kaplan section was obtained in similarity form. The exact solution by Kaplan for the second approximation was examined and found expressible in the same similarity form. The exact numerical results to three approximations obtained by Kaplan for the Kaplan section and the circular arc have been reduced to transonic similarity form.

This book was released on 1948 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is developed, consistent with the assumptions of small perturbation theory, which provides a means of determining for a known load distribution, the downwash behind a wing in supersonic flow. THe analysis is based upon the use of supersonic doublets which are distributed over the plan form and wake of the wing in a manner determined from the wing loading.
Book Synopsis Measurement of the Longitudinal Moment of Inertia of a Flexible Airplane by : Henry A. Cole
Download or read book Measurement of the Longitudinal Moment of Inertia of a Flexible Airplane written by Henry A. Cole and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application and results of the above method in ground oscillation tests are described. The various corrections to reduce the measured moment of inertia to the reference axis moment of inertia are presented. The results show that measurement of moment of inertia by this method is practicable, provided the knife edges and spring are arranged to minimize excitation of structural modes.

Book Synopsis Moments of Inertia of Several Airplanes by : Marvel P. Miller
Download or read book Moments of Inertia of Several Airplanes written by Marvel P. Miller and published by . This book was released on 1931 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics has adopted the practice of measuring the moments of inertia of all airplanes that become available through their use in flight research work. This paper, which is the first of a series presenting the results of such measurements, gives the momumental ellipsoids of ten army and naval biplanes and one commercial monoplane. The data wer obtained by the use of a pendulum method, previously described. The moments of inertia are expressed in coeffienct as well as in dimensional form, so that those for airplanes of widely spaced different weights and dimensions can be compared. The coefficients are also useful for estimating the moments of inertia of airplanes for which no measurements of inertia can be computed. To determine the accuracy with which the moments of inertia can be computed from design data, calculations were made of the monents of inertia for one of the above airplanes by summing up the moments of inertia of its constituent parts. It was found that computed values were in error 20, 10, and 5 percent for the X, Y, and Z axes, respectively.

This book was released on 1956 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because the chemical reaction rates needed to predict the dependence of degree of dissociation on distance behind the shock are not known, order-of-magnitude estimates of their values have been used in a numerical example, the purpose of which is to illustrate the use of reaction-rate equations to predict relaxation time and distance behind the shock front.
