Book excerpt: Using 385 fb−1 of ee− collisions, they study the amplitudes of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D° → K−K+?°. They measure the strong phase difference between the {bar D}° and D° decays to K*(892)+K− to be -35.5{sup o} ± 1.9{sup o}(stat) ± 2.2{sup o}(syst), and their amplitude ratio to be 0.599 ± 0.013(stat) ± 0.011(syst). They observe contributions from the K? and K−K+ scalar and vector amplitudes, and analyze their angular moments. They find no evidence for charged?, nor for higher spin states. They also perform a partial wave analysis of the K−K+ system in a limited mass range.

These results are combined with amplitudes measured in B° → K°{sub s}?+?− decays to construct isospin amplitudes from B° → K{sup *}? and B° → ?K decays. We measure the phase of the isospin amplitude ?{sub 3/2}, useful in constraining the CKM unitarity triangle angle ? and evaluate a CP rate asymmetry sum rule sensitive to the presence of new physics operators. We measure direct CP violation in B° → K{sup *+}?− decays at the level of 3 ? when measurements from both B° → K+?−?° and B° → K°{sub s}?+?− decays are combined.

Measurements of branching fractions for the quasi-two-body decays B{sup {+-}} {yields} {rho}{sup 0}(1450){pi}{sup {+-}}, B{sup {+-}} {yields} f{sub 0}(980){pi}{sup {+-}} and B{sup {+-}} f{sub 2}(1270){pi}{sup {+-}} are also presented. They observe no charge asymmetries for the above modes, and there is no evidence for the decays B{sup {+-}} {yields} {chi}{sub c0}{pi}{sup {+-}}, B{sup {+-}} {yields} f{sub 0}(1370){pi}{sup {+-}} and B{sup {+-}} {yields} {sigma}{pi}{sup {+-}}.

Book excerpt: We perform an amplitude analysis of B{sup ±} 2!{var_phi}(1020)K*(892){sup ±} decay with a sample of about 384 million B{bar B} pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. Overall, twelve parameters are measured, including the fractions of longitudinal f{sub L} and parity-odd transverse f{sub {perpendicular}} amplitudes, branching fraction, strong phases, and six parameters sensitive to CP-violation. We use the dependence on the K[pi] invariant mass of the interference between the J{sup P} = 1− and 0 K[pi] components to resolve the discrete ambiguity in the determination of the strong and weak phases. Our measurements of f{sub L} = 0.49 ± 0.05 ± 0.03, f{sub {perpendicular}} = 0.21 {+-} 0.05 {+-} 0.02, and the strong phases point to the presence of a substantial helicity-plus amplitude from a presently unknown source.

The data come from the Fermilab E831/FOCUS experiment. The amplitude measurement is made using the partial wave analysis without any preliminary assumption about the nature of the S-wave component of the K[pi] system. The phase and magnitude of the S-wave amplitude are generic functions to be determined directly through the Dalitz plot fit. For the sake of comparison, our results the same decay is analyzed using the isobar model, which is the standard way to analyze the Dalitz plot. The data fit obtained with the partial wave analysis is better than the data fit from the isobar model. The phase variation with respect to the invariant mass K[pi] is compared with the measurement of the phase [Delta]$0\atop{I=1/2}$ (mK[pi]) from K[pi] → K[pi] scattering. The difference between both analysis is discussed considering: a difference in the composition of the isospin components I = 1/2 and I = 3/2 of the K[pi] system between D+ decay and the K[pi] → K[pi] scattering; and the final state interaction involving all particles from decay.

After this analysis we present the Spectator Model study on the S wave in this decay. For this study we used the formalism developed by M. Svec [2] for scattering. We present the comparison between the Isobar Model, frequently used in Dalitz Plot analysis, and this formalism.

Book excerpt: A time-dependent amplitude analysis of B° → K{sub S}°??− decays is performed in order to extract the CP violation parameters of f0(980)K{sub S}° and?°(770)K{sub S}° and direct CP asymmetries of K*+(892)?−. The results are obtained from the final BABAR data sample of (465 ± 5)106 B{bar B} decays, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. The time dependent CP asymmetry for f0(980)K{sub S}° and?°(770)K{sub S}° are measured to be S(f0(980)K{sub S}°) = -0.97 ± 0.09 ± 0.01 ± 0.01, and S(?°(770)K{sub S}°) = 0.67 ± 0.20 ± 0.06 ± 0.04, respectively. In decays to K*+(892)?− the direct CP asymmetry is found to be A{sub CP}(K*{sup ±}(892)?{sup {-+}}) = -0.18 ± 0.10 ± 0.04 ± 0.00. The relative phases between B° → K*+(892)?− and {bar B}° → K*−(892)?+, relevant for the extraction of the unitarity triangle angle?, is measured to be??(K*(892)?) = (34.9 ± 23.1 ± 7.5 {+-} 4.7){sup o}, where uncertainties are statistical, systematic and model-dependent, respectively. Fit fractions, direct CP asymmetries and the relative phases of different other resonant modes have also been measured. A new method for extracting longitudinal shower development information from longitudinally unsegmented calorimeters is also presented. This method has been implemented as a part of the BABAR final particle identification algorithm. A significant improvement in low momenta muon identification at BABAR is obtained.
