Download or read book Relations Between the European Union and Latin America written by Wolf Grabendorff and published by Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft. This book was released on 2005 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume describes, analyses, and evaluates EU-Latin American relation in general with special reference to MERCOSUR and the Carribean. It combines empirical analyses of the development of this relation with a systematic discussion of regionalisation and biregionalism and includes discussions about future developments. In addition, it relates this "biregional" relation into the general framework of global change, U.S.-EU-Latin American relations, and Latin American regionalisation processes. The project summarizes results from a research project, in which leading Latin American and European scholars jointly explored possibilities and limits of EU-Latin American cooperation in the past, present, and future.

Download or read book The EU and World Regionalism written by Michael Schulz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-17 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been said about the driving forces of region-building processes or regionalization worldwide, yet few systematic and comparative studies have been conducted on how regions can contribute to the building of other regions - and more concretely, how the European Union has 'pushed' for regionalization worldwide. This comparative book investigates the impact that the EU has on regionalization elsewhere through its inter-regional relations. Covering agriculture, trade, ASEAN, NAFTA, MERCOSUR and Commonwealth amongst other topics, it investigates whether the EU contributes directly, as well as indirectly, to increased regional integration in different parts of the world.
Book Synopsis International Parliaments by : Lluís Maria de Puig
Download or read book International Parliaments written by Lluís Maria de Puig and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the curiosity it arouses in political circles, international parliamentarism has never yet been dealt with by academic researchers, probably because it is such a new field. This appraisal explores the era of globalization and the institutional frameworks to which it has given rise, with attention to how the geostrategic context is changing and outlining potential future developments. The key question about these new parliamentary structures is what their future function will be in a political process which is no longer restricted to the national sphere but now takes place on a global scale.--Publisher's description.

Book Synopsis The External Economic Dimension of the European Union by : Gerrit Faber
Download or read book The External Economic Dimension of the European Union written by Gerrit Faber and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-22 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The External Economic Dimensions of the European Union focuses on the broad range of recent initiatives taken by the EU to reinforce its common external economic policy in a rapidly changing environment. The prospects of the EU are increasingly interrelated with the dynamics of the world economy. In the multipolar post-Cold War economy, the EU faces many uncertainties and new challenges. The transatlantic link still dominates the EU's external relations but the cohesion of the Euro-American relatioship has been tested severely. Moreover, the transition of Central and Eastern Europe and the rise of new growth poles in Asia and Latin America have not only creates new opportunities for trade and investment but intensified international competition at the same time. The volume is organised in two parts. Part I focuses on the competitiveness of the EU and its position in the world economy as well as on specific aspects of its external economic policies including the restructuring of the Common Agricultural Policy and the enlargement of the EU membership. Part II is exclusively devoted to the regional dimension of the external policy of the EU and focuses on the rapidly evolving relationship with the other Triad powers, the USA and Japan, the neighbouring countries and the emerging markets. The book brings together a range of distinguished authors who analyse the wide range of initiatives from the perspective of economics, political science and law. It is a timely and essential work that will reward the attention of policymakers and interested academics throughout the world.
Book Synopsis Multilateralism and Regionalism in the Post-Uruguay Round Era by : Olga Memedovic
Download or read book Multilateralism and Regionalism in the Post-Uruguay Round Era written by Olga Memedovic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Post-Uruguay Round era has seen a proliferation of regional preferential trade agreements (PTAs) as well as progressive multilateral trade liberalization initiatives. This has stimulated theoretical discussion on whether the policy of pursuing PTAs will have a malign or a benign impact on multilateralism. In the former case, proliferation of PT As may increase protection in global trade due to trade diversion effects, thereby creating impediments to multilateral freeing of global trade. In the latter case, the expansion of PTA membership could ultimately lead to non-discriminatory global free trade. At the core of this discussion is the question of how to explain the preference for PTA membership. While some economists view the expansion of PTA membership as exogenously determined, participants of the Fourth Annual Workshop of the Network EU-LDC Trade and Capital Relations also considered endogenous factors explaining increased PTA membership. This book offers a closer look at the motives of policy makers in both developed and developing countries to still adhere to PTAs, notwithstanding the theoretical superiority of multilateralism, and addresses the question of how to bring order into the world trading system. These issues are dealt with in 9 chapters by scholars from both the EU and LDCs. Each paper is discussed in terms of its policy relevance by a policy maker as well as by an academic specialized in the field.
