Thirty-four contributed chapters give an overview, followed by discussion of normal labor and delivery management (induction, multiple gestations, malpresentations); labor and delivery as an intensive care unit (tocolysis, preterm labor, asthma, sickle cell disease); controversies (e.g. electronic fetal monitoring, delivery of the very-low-birth-weight infant); and social obstetrics (e.g. medicolegal issues, conflicts between maternal and fetal well-being, perinatal loss). Book excerpt: The Medicare program enables millions of beneficiaries to obtain health care services; however, lacks many of the essential elements of a high-quality, high-value and efficient health system. Program spending and utilisation have increased substantially, without corresponding improvements in beneficiaries' health. This new and important book describes the need for Medicare to move away from payment policies that encourage service volume and are indifferent to quality and toward policies that promote better value for Medicare and its beneficiaries.

Book excerpt: In response to the many changes currently going on in health care, this book offers the combined insight and wisdom of a stellar group of scholars and professionals with extensive experience in the health care field. The book opens with a look at people's actual experience of health care today, from four different perspectives. It then addresses foundational questions, including the nature of medicine, nursing, and justice. Surveyed next are the changing economics of health care as well as the impact of these changes on such areas as mental health care, long-term care, health care for minorities, and legal malpractice. The closing section of the book assesses from a Christian perspective available constructive alternatives, including creative funding strategies with special attention to the needs of poor persons, physician unions, and the use of "alternative medicine" therapies.

This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
