Book excerpt: This book is devoted to spiders of one of the poorly studied regions of the Earth, the Republic of Kazakhstan, which lies in Central Asia. To date, there is no single catalogue or illustrated identification guide to the spiders of Kazakhstan. Therefore, this book constitutes the first major documentation of this interesting fauna, providing a richly illustrated popular account of 176 spider species of 41 families, which represent most of the genera (except those of Linyphiidae) recorded from Kazakhstan. The general appearance of 45 species is illustrated in colour for the first time. The book also containscomplete checklists of all the arachnids, apart from Acari (mites and ticks), recorded from Kazakhstan to date: Araneae (spiders) - 978 species; Opiliones (harvestmen) - 21 species; Solifugae (camel spiders) - 13 species; Scorpiones (scorpions) - five species; and Pseudoscorpiones (false-scorpions) - 25 species.

Book Synopsis Forest Spiders of South East Asia by : Christa L. Deeleman-Reinhold
Download or read book Forest Spiders of South East Asia written by Christa L. Deeleman-Reinhold and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2001 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forest Spiders of South East Asia offers the first comprehensive systematic account of all sac and ground spiders of South East Asia, which together constitute an estimated 12% of all spiders in the region. All ten subfamilies, 57 genera and numerous species of the region are defined, described, and illustrated. One new subfamily and a large number of new genera and species are described and named. Several hundreds additional, described and new, species are referred to. Distribution of all species covered in this volume is shown in 50 maps. More than a thousand line drawings and 16 colour photographs are used to illustrate the descriptions of the species, of which the great majority has never been illustrated before. The book provides a modern revision of all sac and ground spiders with clear illustrated diagnosis and descriptions of all known members of this group and many new species and genera. Identification of all 47 families occurring in the region is illustrated in beautiful and detailed drawings.
Download or read book Fossil Spiders written by David Penney and published by Siri Scientific Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compared to insects, fossil spiders have received only scant attention in the literature. Previously, the only works available were numerous scientific papers, many published in foreign languages. Most of these are basic descriptive taxonomic works, with very few considering broader biological concepts. Despite a significant increase in the discovery and description of fossil spiders within the last quarter Century this void remained unfilled. Thus, this short monograph aims to achieve several objectives. Firstly, to provide general and up to date background information on the overall importance and diversity of fossils spiders, including an indication of those groups for which the taxonomy is spurious and in need of reassessment. Secondly, to discuss the techniques available for working with fossil spiders and some of the problems encountered by palaeoarachnologists, including bias and limitations of the spider fossil record. Thirdly, the overall evolutionary history of spiders is summarized in the form of an evolutionary tree, which is subsequently used to address key issues of broad interest, such as origins, diversifications and extinctions, including the effects of mass extinctions and predator-prey co-radiations. Finally, the contribution that fossil data can make to understanding the past and present biogeography of the order is considered. This book should be of interest to both amateur and professional arachnologists and palaeontologists and will also serve as a general palaeontological reference work for neonologists studying extant spiders.
