Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of extensive efforts, material weathering testing still requires improvement. This book presents findings and opinions of experts in material degradation testing. The aim is to improve testing methods and procedures. Materials are presented to show that photochemical degradation rate depends on a combination of environmental factors such as UV radiation, temperature, humidity, rain, stress, and concentration of reactive pollutants. The potential effect of each parameter of degradation on data gathered is discussed based on known results from a long experience in testing. This book contains data obtained in laboratories of the largest manufacturers of UV stabilizers and chemical companies that manufacture durable materials. The book gives details of testing procedures and choice of parameters of exposure which are crucial for obtaining laboratory results correlating with environmental performance of materials. In addition to exposure conditions, the book contains many suggestions on sample preparation and post-exposure testing. The effective use of these methods shortens testing time of materials and determines acceleration rate of testing. The book also gives examples of complete, well-designed weathering experiments which may be used as patterns for selection of parameters and techniques for new studies. The areas of research that still require more attention in future studies are clearly indicated.

Book excerpt: In 'Measure Your Mind: The Mentimeter and How to Use It,' editors Marion Rex Trabue and Frank Parker Stockbridge present a fascinating anthology that traverses the burgeoning field of early 20th-century psychological measurement. This collection adeptly combines scholarly essays, practical guides, and theoretical explorations to illuminate the breadth of application and the diverse methodologies surrounding the Mentimeter, a pioneering instrument in psychological evaluation. The anthology stands out for its eclectic mix of literary styles, from the rigor of scientific discourse to the accessible language of instructional manuals, mirroring the multifaceted nature of psychological testing itself. The contributing authors, including the editors themselves, are both scholars and practitioners at the forefront of the psychological testing movement. Their collective work encapsulates a notable period in the history of psychology, where the fascination with quantifying human intellect converged with the development of tools to do so. This anthology not only archives a significant moment in the evolution of psychological assessment but also demonstrates how interdisciplinary approachescombining insights from education, psychology, and technologycan offer a deeper understanding of human capabilities. 'Reasure Your Mind' is an indispensable resource for anyone interested in the history of psychology, educational measurement, or the early 20th-century intellectual milieu. The collection is recommended not just for its scholarly significance but for providing a window into the optimistic era of early psychological exploration. Readers will find in it a rich tapestry of perspectives, methodologies, and ideas that invite further reflection on how we assess the human minds complexities, making it a compelling read for historians, psychologists, educators, and anyone fascinated by the intersection of psychology and measurement technology.

All the units of this book have been written keeping the centre idea of assessment and learning in every aspect of teacher and students. The book presented highlights ‘Assessment for Learning’, constructivism and assessment in the first unit, levels and dimensions of learning in the learning in the second unit, different types of assessment techniques in the third unit, assessment tools, portfolios, feedback in the fourth unit and includes feedback, progress record in fifth unit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decision theory is generally taught in one of two very different ways. When of opti taught by theoretical statisticians, it tends to be presented as a set of mathematical techniques mality principles, together with a collection of various statistical procedures. When useful in establishing the optimality taught by applied decision theorists, it is usually a course in Bayesian analysis, showing how this one decision principle can be applied in various practical situations. The original goal I had in writing this book was to find some middle ground. I wanted a book which discussed the more theoretical ideas and techniques of decision theory, but in a manner that was constantly oriented towards solving statistical problems. In particular, it seemed crucial to include a discussion of when and why the various decision prin ciples should be used, and indeed why decision theory is needed at all. This original goal seemed indicated by my philosophical position at the time, which can best be described as basically neutral. I felt that no one approach to decision theory (or statistics) was clearly superior to the others, and so planned a rather low key and impartial presentation of the competing ideas. In the course of writing the book, however, I turned into a rabid Bayesian. There was no single cause for this conversion; just a gradual realization that things seemed to ultimately make sense only when looked at from the Bayesian viewpoint.
