Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal eye health is just around the corner with this guide to treating common eye disorders with acupuncture, herbs, and other tenets of Chinese medicine For the past ten years, Andy Rosenfarb has successfully used acupuncture and Chinese medicine to treat a wide range of eye conditions. His treatments include moxibustion techniques, tuina (massage), microcurrent stimulation, Chinese herbs, and qigong exercises, along with “essential acupuncture” where essential oils are placed on acupuncture points. The culmination of his work—which includes a recent pioneering study involving metabolic testing—is this handbook for healing the kinds of conditions too often considered almost impossibly challenging or irreversible. The first half of Healing Your Eyes with Chinese Medicine explains Traditional Chinese Medicine and its perspective on the eyes, which is based on the idea that the eyes and the brain work in tandem, not isolation. The second half focuses on proven methods derived from Rosenfarb’s practice, including nutritional, supplemental, and lifestyle adjustments. Individual chapters cover eye disorders such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, and many more. This book is intended as a practical manual to help readers understand their eyes and vision more comprehensively, and to learn new, affordable ways for retaining the precious gift of sight.

The ocular surface itself is also a part of the system, including the cornea and conjunctiva. This makes for a very complex situation that can easily lead to changes in tear film and the ocular surface that are called "dry eye." Here a team of experts carefully examine how and when surgery is indicated, addressing normal tear film, normal anatomy (including immunological interactions), classification and diagnosis, anti-inflammatory and immnunosup-pressive concepts, correction and drainage techniques, surgery of the conjunctiva and cornea, keratoprosthesis surgery, botulism toxin injections, mucous membrane grafting, and salivary gland transplantation along with other treatments. The collection closed with a set of scientific studies. The color and monochrome clinical photographs and line illustrations are especially well-chosen and informative.

This book was released on 2003-01-31 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past several decades, a significant international research effort has been directed towards understanding the composition and regulation of the preocular tear film. This effort has been motivated by the recognition that the tear film plays a critical role in maintaining corneal and conjunctival integrity, protecting against microbial challenge and preserving visual acuity. In addition, research has been stimulated by the knowledge that alteration or deficiency of the tear film, which occurs in numerous individuals throughout the world, may lead to desiccation of the ocular surface, ulceration and perforation of the cornea, an increased incidence of infectious disease, and potentionally pronounced visual disability and blindness.
