Book Synopsis Coelenterate Biology 2003 by : Daphne G. Fautin
Download or read book Coelenterate Biology 2003 written by Daphne G. Fautin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-07 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, the proceedings of the Seventh International Conference on Coelenterate Biology, is organized as the meeting was around six topics. Because several sessions of ICCB7 constituted the 2003 North American meeting of the International Society for Reef Studies, the subject of coral reefs is strongly represented in the section on Ecology. The other themes are Neurobiology; Reproduction, Development, and Life Cycles; Pioneers in Coelenterate Biology; Cnidae; and Taxonomy and Systematics. Ctenophores, as well as representatives of all four classes of cnidarians are among the study subjects of the research reported in this volume. The theme of variability runs through the volume - be it in cnidae, morphology, behavior, neurobiology, ecology, colony form, or reproduction, variability is a major reason these animals are so interesting and challenging to study This is a must-read resource for anyone doing research - or planning to do research - on cnidarians and ctenophores.
Book Synopsis The Galapagos Marine Reserve by : Judith Denkinger
Download or read book The Galapagos Marine Reserve written by Judith Denkinger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-24 with total page 322 pages. Book excerpt: This book focuses on how marine systems respond to natural and anthropogenic perturbations (ENSO, overfishing, pollution, tourism, invasive species, climate-change). Authors explain in their chapters how this information can guide management and conservation actions to help orient and better manage, restore and sustain the ecosystems services and goods that are derived from the ocean, while considering the complex issues that affect the delicate nature of the Islands. This book will contribute to a new understanding of the Galapagos Islands and marine ecosystems.

Download or read book Rhodophyta - Volume 4 written by Guangce Wang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the fourth volume of the “Marine Algal Flora of China-Rhodophyta.” The series has seven volumes covering about 20 orders, 45 families, 173 genera, and 560 species including over 150 species firstly described from China, indicating significant importance to the knowledge of North-Western Pacific marine algal flora. The fourth volume covers coralline algae, including Sporolithales, Corallinales, and Hapalidiales. Almost all species involved are illustrated in detail on morphology, inner structure, habitats, and geographical distribution, based upon herbarium specimens collected along the China coast, and a lot of elaborate pictures are attached inside. This flora will gain our understanding of current Chinese marine red algae, but much research is still necessary to reflect the whole picture of the red algal diversity along the China coast.

Download or read book Oceanography written by Marco Marcelli and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-03-23 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when it is quite clearly Ocean (Arthur C. Clarke). Life has been originated in the oceans, human health and activities depend from the oceans and the world life is modulated by marine and oceanic processes. From the micro-scale, like coastal processes, to macro-scale, the oceans, the seas and the marine life, play the main role to maintain the earth equilibrium, both from a physical and a chemical point of view. Since ancient times, the world's oceans discovery has brought to humanity development and wealth of knowledge, the metaphors of Ulysses and Jason, represent the cultural growth gained through the explorations and discoveries. The modern oceanographic research represents one of the last frontier of the knowledge of our planet, it depends on the oceans exploration and so it is strictly connected to the development of new technologies. Furthermore, other scientific and social disciplines can provide many fundamental inputs to complete the description of the entire ocean ecosystem. Such multidisciplinary approach will lead us to understand the better way to preserve our "Blue Planet": the Earth.
